KUALA LUMPUR FOUNDATION TO CRIMINALISE WAR PRESS STATEMENT : ON THE BOMBARDMENT ON GAZA BY THE ISRAELI ARMED FORCES The Kuala Lumpur Foundation to Criminalise War (KLFCW) condemns, in the strongest terms, the bombardment on Gaza by the Israeli armed forces which is now in its fourth day and killing more than 100 civilians, many of them women and children. The global media had since reported Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as saying that he had mobilised 40,000 troops to launch a ground attack against Gaza in a military operation code-named “Operation Protective Edge. If this comes to pass, thousands of innocent people in Gaza will surely perish. Israel had previously launched airstrikes and ground invasion of Gaza in operation Cast Lead (27 December 2008 to 18 January 2009) where not only thousands of innocent people of Gaza were killed but also homes, schools, hospitals, public infrastructures etc were destroyed. In that deadly attack on Gaza, white phosphorus was used by the Israeli armed forces on the Palestinian population. There is now an imminent danger of worse things happening in Gaza, should Operation Protective Edge comes to pass. KLFCW calls upon the UN Security Council and the world community to bring immediate pressure against Israel, urging its leaders to immediately stop the current airstrikes and bombardments on Gaza, and to call off the planned ground invasion on Gaza. KLFCW urges all parties in the conflict to immediately halt and cease their respective military operations and continue working on the road map for peace in the region. War will never bring peace to the region.
