Roles and responsibilities Strategy

Leading or working with the CEO on the development of the company strategy Advising the CEO on product development strategy, market needs and competitive analysis Ensuring that investors interests are properly represented by the strategic options presented to the board

Fundraising

Anticipating and articulating funding requirements Assistance with fund-raising including attending fundraising meetings & helping CEO with feedback Providing independent feedback to investors on fundraising meetings and discussions Gathering feedback from prospective investors on their view of the management team

Financial

Recognising future cash requirements and ensuring the board deals with cash-flow planning well in advance As Board Chair, approving FutureGov’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions Being informed of, and ensuring that the company is meeting its legal & fiduciary responsibilities


Governance

Providing independent feedback to investors on the state of company and management Collecting inputs from all directors & management for the board meetings; Finalising the board meeting agenda Ensuring board reporting pack has been issued well in advance of the meeting Run the agenda of the board meeting Periodically consulting with board members on their roles and helping them assess their performance Planning, presiding over, and facilitating board and committee meetings; partnering with the CEO to ensure that board resolutions are carried out Acting as an ambassador & evangelist for the organization including speaking at conferences & events as appropriate on behalf of the company

Team Building

Mentoring and coaching the CEO Monitoring the performance of the executive team and taking action on the required change Conducting formal CEO appraisal and performance review Monitoring the executive team's relationships and bringing action if conflicts arise


Person Specification Essential

Experience of working with and in a start-up, ideally in a fast-moving sector (technology, software etc.) Leadership skills and credibility to direct an organisation Diplomatic; Having a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, facilitating and building consensus among diverse individuals Strong grasp of finance and able to anchor the Finance Head and Ops Team Excellent written and oral communication skills Personal qualities of integrity and commitment to the role & the company

Desired

Experience of raising finance for early-stage start-ups Knowledge of local government systems and processes Experience of working with Founder-CEOs & having the authority to engage & challenge them as appropriate Having access to potential customers and partners in local government and adjacent sectors London-based
