BDA TO DDRB: PAY CUTS HAVE CONSEQUENCES T
he British Dental Association has said that real terms cuts to dentists’ pay will undermine patient care, as part of its oral evidence to the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration (DDRB) for 2016/17. Eddie Crouch, the BDA’s Vice Chair and Chair of its Review Body Evidence Committee, said: “The rhetoric and the reality on dentists’ pay couldn’t be any further apart. As a profession we are not looking at ‘minimal’ rises or even pay ‘freezes’. Any talk of ‘pay restraint’ for dentists is simply a euphemism for deep and sustained pay cuts. All the official evidence tells precisely the same story. We are not ‘all in this together’, and our profession should not be expected to take a disproportionate hit to bail out a cash strapped NHS. “Let’s be clear these cuts have consequences. Patients quite rightly
demand ever higher standards of care, and that requires a well-trained and highly-motivated team, armed with the best in equipment and materials. We are reaching a point where delivering this on ever-diminishing funds will no longer be possible. “Today (16 November) colleagues from all the home nations and crafts spoke with one voice. Their message was simple: we can’t go on like this.”
• •
• •
Key points highlighted in the BDA’s official evidence are: • •
Public confidence in NHS dentistry is high and quite rightly needs to remain so; Practices are focusing their finances on retaining highly prized practice staff to underpin the dentist workforce, however, some practitioners are not receiving pay increases as a

result; Taxable incomes continue to remain at significantly lower levels than 2008/9; Time spent on non-clinical activity continues to increase putting at risk the time available to see patients and access to NHS services; Morale and motivation continues to be very low across the UK, particularly in Northern Ireland; Dentist retention rates are not as good as they could be and 30 per cent of associates intend to increase the amount of private care they provide; There are problems in recruiting associates in some areas, particularly Wales; A third of practice owners plan to retire in the next five years and six per cent of dentists want to leave dentistry and work in another sector within the next
CHANGE TEARS TO SMILES THIS CHRISTMAS H ave you ever wondered what would happen if your life took a turn for the worst? In the case of Dr. F, who never thought that he would need help from the BDA Benevolent Fund, all it took was one mistake in surgery for his career – and life – to change. After he was acquitted from the General Dental Council, he was left
unable to work and out of pocket. Jobless, uninsured and with little savings left to his name, it does not bear to think about the struggle and pain that Dr. F had to endure – especially during the festive period. Through the prevailing work of the Fund and the financial support that it could provide, however, Dr. F has been able to rebuild his life.

For an £8.60 fee, Scottish dentists must examine their patient’s mouths for dental decay, missing teeth, existing restorations, tooth wear, evaluate and record their gum condition, perform a cancer screening and disease check of their cheeks, tongue, throat, lips, face, neck, and jaw joints, perhaps take an x-ray, come to a diagnosis, provide a treatment plan, discuss it with the patient and then write up the notes to GDC standards.

KEVIN LEWIS IS TO STEP DOWN AS DENTAL PROTECTION DIRECTOR
K
evin Lewis is to step down as Dental Protection’s Dental Director by summer 2016, having served in the role since 1998. Kevin explained, “18 years is a long time for anyone to lead an organisation such as this. In fact my connection goes back even further than that, as I was a member of the original Board of Directors when Dental Protection Limited was created as a separate company within the Medical Protection Society (MPS) group back in 1989. I then moved across to become a dentolegal adviser in 1992 so it is actually 27 years of continuous involvement – that’s quite scary to think about.
“It has been a huge privilege not only to work in this fascinating field over so many years, but also to work with such phenomenally good people. There is something very special about being in a position to help your professional colleagues through times of difficulty, and one of the pleasures of the job is seeing that commitment and passion running right through the Dental Protection team. Our members can be assured that this commitment will remain undiminished.” Asked about his future plans, Kevin explained that he will still be involved in and around dentistry both in the UK and internationally, commenting:
“In addition to my role as Dental Director I have been part of the MPS Executive Committee for almost 18 years, and for most of those years serving on its elected Council as one of the three executive directors of MPS. There has also been a lot of travel involved so it has been quite demanding and it will be nice to have a bit more time to call my own after next summer. I will certainly be looking forward to that, and also to continuing my writing and lecturing for some time yet.” Commenting on Kevin’s decision to step down, Simon Kayll, Chief
Executive at MPS said: “Kevin has made an outstanding contribution to dentistry and Dental Protection over many years. He is highly respected and will be deeply missed by his colleagues for whom he has been an insightful leader, mentor and friend.” Arrangements for the appointment of Kevin Lewis’s successor will be announced in due course.
DENTAID LAUNCHES FIRST PAY WHAT YOU CAN DENTISTRY SCHEME
I
nternational dentistr y charity Dentaid has teamed up with The Real Junk Food Project Dewsbury to launch a new scheme that will help vulnerable people who find it difficult to access NHS dentistry. The Real Junk Tooth Project will provide emergency, pain relieving dentistry. A pilot project is being launched in Dewsbury on Thursday, December 3 and, if it is successful, could be introduced in other towns and cities in 2016.
Dentists and support staff are volunteering their time to provide emergency treatment on a ‘pay what you can’ basis. Between 6pm and 8pm people suffering dental pain can turn up and wait to be seen at Dewsbury Dental Centre on Halifax Road in the West Yorkshire town. They will only pay what they can afford. The idea came about after The Real Junk Food Project Dewsbury realised that many of the homeless people, low wage and migrant
workers, and vulnerable people it was feeding at its cafes and drop-in sessions couldn’t enjoy their meals of donated food because they were suffering from toothache. Many had been living in pain for several months. Dentaid is committed to eradicating dental pain around the world whatever people’s circumstances might be. We are working with The Real Junk Food Project Dewsbury to launch the project which is our first in the UK. Dentaid is also looking for
other dentists who would be interested in volunteering their time for future Real Junk Tooth Projects and would love to hear from anyone who would be willing to donate consumables. Please email info@dentaid.org To find out more about The Real Junk Tooth Project visit http://therealjunktoothproject.org/ For more information about Dentaid visit www.dentaid.org.

he whole team at A-dec UK would like to congratulate everybody at Birmingham Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry after the recent visit by Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. At an official ceremony held to celebrate the exceptional dental services that the hospital has historically provided – and will continue to provide after its extensive redevelopment – the Queen unveiled a commemorative plaque, recognising the hard work of all those who have made the hospital the exemplary institution it is today. A-dec is particularly proud to have been able to supply its high-quality dental equipment – principally the premier A-dec 500 dental operating unit – for the project. The team
worked hard to install each unit and were delighted to see Her Majesty take an interest in the dental chairs during her guided tour of the facility. A-dec works closely with clinical teams to ensure their products provide precisely the kinds of workplace solutions needed to perform quality dentistry. Its range of chairs, stools, delivery systems and other equipment are regularly chosen by hospitals and training institutes for their reliability and functionality – and are a mainstay in many of the UK’s dental practices. POTENTIAL TAX PITFALLS FOR EMPLOYERS WHEN IT COMES TO HOSTING THE CHRISTMAS PARTY – PETER WATKINS, ALBERT GOODMAN ACCOUNTANTS
VOLUME 2 ISSUE 5
l
DSM
A
s soon as you hear people jesting “it’s close to next Christmas than last”, it’s a sure sign that someone in the practice is about to be tasked with organising the annual party. As that time is well and truly upon us now, it’s worth a reminder about the potential tax consequences of seasonal generosity. First off, the Christmas party - or in fact any annual party. Provided you are entertaining only staff and their close family, the full cost is deductible against your trading profits. If you also invite suppliers or clients, then only the staff-related expenditure can be deducted. However, the potential
pitfall is that if the total per-head cost (including transport and accommodation, if applicable) goes over £150, the whole lot – not just the excess – is treated as a benefit in kind on the employee, and must be reported on their P11D. Alternatively, it may be more economical to agree a PAYE Settlement Agreement with HMRC. The £150 is an annual total, so if you have, say, a summer BBQ then this also counts towards the limit. However it’s only the event which pushes staff over the £150 which is taxable. Seasonal gifts to employees should also be given some thought. Cash
gifts or store vouchers are treated as salary and taxable as such. However, HMRC will not seek to tax trivial non-cash gifts such as a bottle of wine or box of chocolates. Their limit of “trivial” remains under wraps, but a common-sense approach should avoid any challenges. Larger gifts (perhaps a whole case of wine?) will be taxable through the P11D or PSA channels as outlined above. Happy Christmas! erioChip® offers successful adjunctive treatment for periodontal pockets of 5mm or more. Each insert contains 36% chlorhexidine digluconate, which kills 99% of perio-pathogenic bacteria for up to 7-10 days and goes on suppressing the growth of bacteria for up to 11 weeks. PerioChip® is unique; it does not contain antibiotics but its successful antibacterial effect allows time for the periodontium to regenerate and heal, and for the teeth to stabilise. Evidence from clinical studies shows a pocket reduction of more than 2mm in almost three quarters
of patients when PerioChip® was placed every three months. PerioChip® is also convenient. It does not need to be refrigerated
and is very easy to place. Its biodegradable composition means that it dissolves naturally, so your patients do not have to return to the surgery
for removal. Why use anything else? Find out more about the amazing and effective benefits of PerioChip® now.

eneral Medical are exclusive UK Distributors for t h e PAC T 3 0 0 p h o t o activation system which delivers effective treatment for all oral infections in just 20 seconds! The PACT300 can be used to treat periodontitis, peri-implantitis, endodontic infections, caries and oral infections affecting bone and soft tissues. As a safe and effective alternative to systemic and local antibiotics, PACT can be used to eliminate aggressive and chronic forms of periodontitis using a gentle closed therapy, even deep ( ˃ 5mm ), bleeding ( BOP ) and refractory pockets. Eliminating the need for perio surgery, recall intervals can be extended and tissue regeneration is improved. It can also be used to treat peri-implantitis using either a closed or open application, simultaneously also preserving the sensitive implant surface. It can also be used to sterilise carious lesions by destroying cariogenic bacteria deep within infected dentinal tubules, thereby helping to reduce pulpal infections and preserve the pulp. Similarly it can be used to eliminate pathogenic
organisms deep within root canals and dentinal tubules as part of endodontic treatment. Finally it can be used to sterilise infected alveoli, herpes simplex, membrane infections and in association with immediate implant and prior to augmentation therapies, where it delivers painless therapy without delaying wound healing. Quicker and more cost effective than previous systems, the PACT300 is a lightweight and easy
to operate, battery powered, handpiece featuring a red laser diode, with a 632-644nm wavelength, which is used to activate a blue coloured tolonium chloride photosensitive gel. Once activated this gel kills gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria by acting analogously to the granulocytes of the host response, by releasing activated oxygen (aO2). Consequently it destroys biofilms and cell walls, bacterial lipopolysaccarides and
phospholipids etc. It also blocks bacterial enzymes and proteinases, reduces bacterial virulence, and promotes tissue regeneration and collagen growth. It kills 99.99% of all bacteria, fungi and viruses, even clindamycin and metronidazole resistant strains, without any side effects! Visit www.generalmedical.co.uk
Oral Health & Hygiene DON’T FORGET TEENAGE TEETH!

Author Victoria Pedgrift Marketing Co-Ordinator for OTC at Meda Pharmaceuticals Limited
I
n July, children’s dental health once again grabbed the headlines. The Dean of the Royal College of Surgeons, Professor Nigel Hunt, talked of a “crisis point” and that “it is absolutely intolerable that in this day and age, in a civilised country, children are having so many teeth out due to decay, which is over 90% preventable”. With nearly 26,000 five-to-nine year olds admitted to hospital for tooth decay in England during 2013-14 the figures are indeed grim. He went on to recommend that sugary foods and drinks’ packaging should carry cigarette-style warnings, plus better education for parents and more research into why certain groups are less likely to visit the dentist. We all know that prevention is crucial and the overall message was that, by working together, we can continue to make the necessary improvements in order to head off a crisis and bring these damning numbers down. It is all systems go for children’s dental health, but what happens when they grow up? From early to late teens, everything changes. No more supervised brushing for a start! How can we encourage adolescents to maintain the good oral care habits they learned as children, despite huge pressures – social, financial and psychological – that will
start to act upon them? With a total increase in permanent (yet immature) tooth enamel, oral hygiene is more important than ever for teens. The same can be said for other life stages, such as pregnancy and menopause, research has suggested that rush of ‘sex hormones’ during puberty affects the periodontium, making this an important time for an individual’s periodontal status. As for avoidable factors, a smoking habit usually starts, and gets established, during adolescence. According to Ash, around two-thirds of adult smokers reported that they took up smoking before the age of 18, and over 80% before the age of 20. Smoking, of course, has a plethora of serious dental and systemic health consequences. With more independence, there will be inevitable changes to diet. Faddy eating plans can also be an issue at this time and the impact of eating disorders, which are often initiated during the teenage years, should be noted. Individuals who develop bulimia nervosa may experience acid erosion to the surface of the teeth as a result of frequent vomiting. Anorexia nervosa, can lead to increased caries, xerostomia and osteoporosis due to malnourishment and a lack of essential nutrients.
More freedom to snack and, if they have left home to go to university or negotiate the world of work for the first time, less money to spend on food can lead to unhealthy choices. Energy drinks are popular during examination time as they are marketed as being able to boost energy, decrease fatigue and enhance concentration. However, they are often full of sugar, too. Skipping breakfast – or grabbing something unhealthy on-the-go – is common amongst adolescents. New research has shown that teens are twice as likely to suffer from halitosis if they miss the most important meal of the day. Oral health education directed at teens, which incorporates bad breath as a motivational tool may trigger them into better oral health habits. This is a defining time and no one wants to be known as the girl or guy with smelly breath! With finances, time and changing priorities all likely to be an issue we need to look at simple, costeffective ways to boost our teens’ dental health between appointments. Education about the causes of halitosis, proper brushing techniques and the dangers of smoking, of course are important, but they could add some easy-to-use adjuncts to their routine, too. For example, CB12 mouth rinse and chewing gum actually neutralise the gases that
cause halitosis. The CB12 Boost gum in particular is a discreet and simple way to freshen the mouth during the day. We want to encourage very young children to look after their teeth, but we also want to them to maintain these habits as they grow older and move into adolescence. We need to encourage easy, practical solutions that have significant oral health benefits, yet are sensitive to the enormous range of pressures that this group faces. This will allow us to prevent dental problems that could have consequences for a lifetime. For more information on CB12 and the extensive research behind it, please visit www.cb12.co.uk

PERIODONTAL PROBING AND CHARTING MADE EASY A
re you looking for a way to enhance your periodontal exams? Clark Dental has the answer. The Florida Probe is an all-inclusive electronic probing and charting system that enables a single operator to complete a simple or comprehensive periodontal exam in less than 10 minutes. Probe, Chart, Educate and Motivate your patients to accept much needed treatment with this innovative system. The Florida Probe becomes your computerized assistant for the periodontal exam so that only one examiner is required. This will help to increase office productivity and efficiency as you won’t need other staff members to chart while you probe. There are now two unique options for capturing a comprehensive periodontal exam without the need for an assistant. The Florida Probe constantforce computerized probe delivers a
consistent level of precision and force regardless of the operator, which improves accuracy of measurements and assists the clinician in determining the correct diagnosis and follow-up treatment. Alternatively, the new Voice Works system from Florida Probe enables the operator to continue using their usual probe but to read out numbers and data into a microphone/headset, which records the information onto the same comprehensive Florida Probe software. Two different ways of capturing data into the Florida Probe software which is right for your practice? For the answer to your periodontal exams turn to the Florida Probe from Clark Dental – visit the website today to find out more. A FRESH APPROACH TO ORAL MALODOUR MANAGEMENT
VOLUME 2 ISSUE 5
l
DSM
I
t is estimated that 1 in 4 people in Britain have halitosis and it is the third most common reason cited for reasons people visit to the dentist.1 Chronic bad breath is a result of too many sulphur producing bacteria in the oral flora and is often associated with caries and periodontal disease. The strongest odour actually comes from the accumulation of the aggressive bacteria on the tongue. Philips Oral Healthcare has already addressed the health of the bacteria around the teeth and gums with the innovative Sonicare and AirFloss devices, and the BDIA Showcase sees the launch of a product which tackles the tongue area with the launch of TongueCare+. With 240 rubber MicroBristles,
the TongueCare+ tongue brush is specifically designed to clean the soft surface of the tongue. The flexible MicroBristles contour to and gently clean around the ridges and grooves to remove bacterial build-up, whilst the compact shape allows patients to comfortably clean the entire tongue without provoking a gag reflex. The TongueCare+ tongue brush quickly transforms any Philips Sonicare toothbrush2 into a sonic-powered tongue cleaner as it simply clicks onto the toothbrush handle, just like a regular brush head, allowing patients to add tongue cleaning to their daily oral care routine in seconds. TongueCare+ comes with a bottle of bacteria-killing Philips Sonicare BreathRx tongue spray. The unique
combination of ingredients in the tongue spray is clinically proven to kill bad halitosis and neutralise odours instantly. The special thick formula coats the tongue and keeps it lubricated for a gentle cleaning experience, whilst a cool mint flavour leaves the mouth feeling fresh and clean. TongueCare+ is the only tongue cleaner with Philips Sonicare strength, to clean away bad-breath bacteria with every stroke. 31 000 vibrations per minute break up tongue debris, sweep away bad-breath bacteria and drive the bacteria-killing ingredients of the BreathRx tongue spray deeper allowing patients to maintain fresh breath for longer.

HOLISTIC LEARNING FOR DENTAL PRACTICE MANAGERS T he Trailblazer Management Apprenticeship in Dentistry provides an extensive workbased programme with a national recognised level 4 qualification – ILM Certificate in Leadership & Management. The course offers a foundation of knowledge, skills and experience for progression into lots of different roles, not only that of practice manager; it also paves the way for advancement towards area or regional manager roles. It is applicable for individuals working in both independent and corporate practices and the qualification in leadership and management has the potential to open a lot of doors, so there is no limit to the career opportunities available. The aim of the course is to develop a student’s capabilities and personal awareness in order for them to become a leader. It provides learning pathways in a wide range of areas to allow a holistic approach to how the practice is run on a large scale, enabling them to make betterinformed decisions. Graduates will be able to take a strategic approach to managing the practice; increasing the efficiency of operations by
streamlining workflows and increasing the quality of patient care. Due to the nature of apprenticeships, the two-year course keeps students in the working environment with only three or four days taught in college per year. Candidates are able to implement new procedures and processes in an environment they are already familiar with to benefit the entire team. A portfolio of work showing evidence of scenario-based projects, learning activities and assessments is developed in practice and a student mentor supports individuals as they learn. The programme covers Human Resources, Patient Care, Clinical, Marketing, Risk Management, Quality Assurance, Finance and the Dental Industry and other areas, enabling practice managers to marry their existing abilities with new skills. Employers can obtain fully qualified people to run their businesses without huge expense. They are not required to fund the entire apprenticeship, just a third; the other two-thirds is funded by the Skills Funding Agency (SFA). Students must of course provide drive and commitment to the training but they do not pay anything, so
it’s a fabulous opportunity for learners to gain high-level qualifications as they earn. Intake for the apprent i c e s h i p programme begins ever y few months and the start dates at Barnet and Southgate College are: • • •
18th March 2016 13th May 2016 1st July 2016 with more dates to follow.
The college offers an eligibility criteria form designed to provide a quick assessment of candidates’ suitability for the course. Generally, candidates need a grade C or above in GCSE English and Maths and should have a level 3 qualification (A-level equivalent or BTEC qualification), but most candidates will be at this kind of level if

A SOLID FOUNDATION D r Mohamed Elbadri from Gowers Dental Surgery in Southsea took the ClearSmile Brace conversion course provided by the IAS Academy in May 2015. “Having completed a few anterior orthodontic cases already, I attended the conversion course to develop my knowledge and understanding of fixed orthodontic appliances and expand the treatments offered to my patients,” he says. “The best thing about the course was that it went back to basics with regards to case selection, assessment and diagnosis, which was really good. This gave me much more ownership of the treatment plan following diagnosis, which is always the most important aspect in any area of dentistry.” The IAS Academy offers a guided learning pathway for various anterior
alignment orthodontic appliances, including the ClearSmile Brace. Designed for dentists with existing fixed orthodontic experience via other appliances, the conversion course will fast-track you into the IAS Academy and build your understanding of digital protocols for case assessment, diagnostics and case submission, among other knowledge necessary to deliver effective, safe and ethical treatment. F
orward thinking Dental Practices in the UK looking to simulate an “open all hours” reception service to their patients through clever advancements in practice management system technologies will now be able to achieve their ambition. T h a n k s t o a revo l u t i o n a r y approach and the latest developments from the pioneering software development team at Systems for Dentists, 24/7, 365 days a year access for patients is now a practical reality. Made possible by bringing to market e-based development solutions as an extension of their existing successful Dental Practice Management software services, Dental Practices in the UK who run V6 Practice Management from Systems for Dentists, or switch to the system in the future will be able to radically improve their accessibility in the dental market place to patients through Virtual Reception, offering the very latest in on line access and real time technologies. And dental practices looking to adopt an open door approach through the new on line patient portal will be able to look forward to being accessible on line – 24/7, improving their patients’ experience, making cost savings, driving up profits and achieving even greater operational efficiencies. Virtual Reception, as part of V6 Dental Practice Management System is set to open up a host of benefits for busy dental surgeries looking to take an innovative lead through the simplicity of open door reception access through the clever portal to patients in their care; The attractiveness for dental receptions always being able to be “accessible” through the arrival of on-line booking functionality, with patients able to book, move, cancel and view their own appointment information for instance is just one feature sure to be a popular and welcome benefit where convenience and avoiding missed appointments is concerned for all. Two way communication at the click of a button and instant selfservice functionality means patients will be able to review consent forms, post-operative care and estimates, amongst a plethora of other hosted information. And with timely access to personal records, data and treatment
images, as granted by the Practice, the new portal offers a more effective and open exchange between Practices and their patients leading to an enhanced customer experience. Add to this patient’s ability to pay for treatment in an instant via an embedded secure payment gateway, reductions in practice administration, cost savings in resourcing and reductions in printing costs through forms being available for completion on line and practitioners will be quick to see why “Virtual Reception” makes complete commercial sense. And its not only dental practices, but the patients in their care who can also enjoy and look forward to a whole array of fantastic benefits; Through the portal, patients will be able to gain access 24/7 to review and amend their own dental appointments on-line, synchronise these with electronic calendars, complete mandatory information on line instead of having to fill in time consuming paper work and forms at their surgery. Other features mean they can also be amongst the first to review the latest marketing offers and event share tweets relating to their practice, depending on the range of functional enhancements their dental practice is offering through its portal interface. And Managing Director of Systems for Dentists, Ryszard Jurowski is absolutely delighted to be at the very forefront of the practise management development curve; “Having listened to our customers very carefully, we were quick to identify and understand the critical importance of communication, driving efficiencies and bringing to market development solutions to meet the operational and commercial needs of UK Dentists. The development of Vir tual Reception is just one of the innovations we are delivering to ensure we stay at the touchpoint of our relationship with our client base and respond to opportunities and the demands of our marketplace” “We are confident that the investments we are continuing to make and the potential that Virtual Reception offers to market will continue to act as a catalyst for growth and for shaping emerging future technologies in the UK dental market”

HENRY SCHEIN ANNOUNCE EXCLUSIVE UK DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT WITH ORAL-B

uring the BDIA Showcase 22nd – 24th October, Henry Schein celebrated their 25th anniversary of working in the UK. Established in 1991 and based in Gillingham, Kent, the company has grown to have over 1000 UK-based Team Schein Members. The company is an affiliate of Henry Schein, Inc. They also used the opportunity at the BDIA Showcase to announce a partnership with Oral-B that means Henry Schein will be the exclusive UK distributor of Oral-B’s new 3D White® Whitestrips. The product has become a firm consumer favourite in the United States, with approximately 30 million kits being sold over the last 14 years. Now being launched to European consumers, Oral-B is aiming to cater for the growing trend of home teeth-whitening kits. 3D White® Whitestrips are prescribed by a dental professional with the first application of the
product being carried out by a dentist. Subsequent applications are then performed at-home by the patient. The Whitestrips use the same enamel-safe whitening ingredient that dentists use, reaching below the enamel surface to remove teeth stains. Conforming to European legislation, Whitestrips are thin, flexible polyethylene strips coated with 5.25% hydrogen peroxide that adapt to the shape of the teeth and are easy to apply, the company said, providing consumers with a secure and effective solution to improve their appearance. “We are excited to announce the launch of 3D White® Whitestrips in Europe,” said Stephen Squire, Global Marketing Director, P&G Oral Care. “3D White® is committed to pioneering new whitening technology and Whitestrips represent our most advanced whitening solution yet. Now we can help more people have the whiter, brighter smiles they deserve.”

IMPLANTPILOT
I
mplantPilotTM is a revolutionary surgical guide that is set to change implant dentistry as we know it. Safe, accurate and cost effective this unique system reduces the stress of placing implants for the surgeon and patient alike. When was the last time an innovative product came along that your patients asked for ? Patients are given the option of keyhole surgery with no stitches, reduced time in the chair and faster recovery times when compared to traditional implant placement. Surely a practice builder? So how does it work ? A CT scan of the patient and STL scans taken in the laboratory are merged with the aid of a Lego TM block fiducial marker and integrated into a software planning system operated by 2ingis. The implants are then digitally placed. Now for the clever part- the guide. The ImplantPilot guide is fabricated by 3D printing from
TM
autoclaveable sintered cobalt chrome forming an open framework which allows the implant site to be viewed and irrigated. A handpiece with struts fits into the guide holes on either side of the implant site enabling position, angulation and even depth to be guaranteed. The implants and drill sequence are concisely prescribed along with the guide facilitating placement by a simple stepwise procedure. So what’s the catch? - Well there isn’t one. It’s suitable for all implant systems and the software cost is £600 annually and the drill kits start from £2200plus VAT. There is training and even a starter package aptly titled “the Launchpad” to get you started without any capital investment. Intrigued? find out more at www. implantpilot.co.uk We look forward to flying with you.
