By organizing an event series that combines art, design and architecture, Ideal Standard has the head start in digging a new route that other brands will move on to track it afterwards. The event series started from Milan on the 21st of April to assure how interior design positively affects modern life by its creative and innovative ideas.

Together World Tour Ideal Standard created the event series “Together World Tour” connected to six cultural cities where it announces the set up of a new product collection based on the visual and civilised background of each city. Each event joins the design and architecture with lifestyle and cultural trends through an amazing cinematic format.

In Milan’s event, Ideal Standard displayed its new it from all the attendees. “Linda X” is designed by Ludovica + Roberto Palomba. Ideal standard also rediscovered the city’s iconic buildings to focus its historical identity and cultural richness. In the past, Ideal Standard built great connections with Master Architects as Gio Ponti and Achille Castiglioni as a result of being deep rooted in the Milanese design legacy since the 1950s.

Linda X Honoring 1977’s Linda collection, designed by A. Castiglioni, the new collection derives its features from the original piece to merge the brand’s cultural contemporary art. Meeting the needs of modern day design, with its extra durable elements, by being produced by unique ceramic blend Diamatec® which also outcomes a visually graceful piece. The ultra thin edged Linda X basins are available in 5 silk white). The Joy taps collection suits Linda X, also designed by Ludovica+Roberto Palomba, the joy taps and magnetic grey)

It all started in 1984 when Style Furniture Company was founded by Eng. Gamal El Attar. The company specializes in providing high quality woodwork for residential, commercial and hospitality projects as well as designing & manufacturing classic furniture pieces. The story began with a small space where experienced craftsmen were gathered to create second-to-none classic pieces with high quality, intricate details & beautiful ornaments until it flourished into Style Furniture factory which was a turning point in the business. Amongst the company’s most prominent projects are: Dusit Thani Cairo, Semiramis Intercontinental Cairo, Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts, Samir & Aly & Namaa Sales Center, Fifth Settlement. “ Quality IS OUR FIRST OBJECTIVE!” Eng. Ahmed Shawky

As an MEP designer, Eng. Shawky has always sought quality, in other words, he wished to observe high-quality finished works resembling the value of the designs he and his colleagues had put, that was the beginning of our story about I-CON MEP Smart Solutions!

: The beginning After graduation, Eng. Shawky worked under the leadership of the famous infrastructure consultant, Eng. Ahmed Abd El-Ghany, for five years, spent two years as an MEP designer and then occupied the position of Project Design manager in the other three years, during the last year, Shawky was in Dubai supervising confidential projects. When Shawky came back from Dubai, he founded his consulting corporate “Engineering Solutions” which specialized in MEP design. The corporate participated as a designing entity in many crucial projects as Porto New Cairo, Porto Sharm El Sheikh resort, Porto Cairo Medical, Bosch Service Center in Al-Katameya, the corporate was also held many projects as a subcontractor Technical Office like Porto Cairo Mall project. “Engineering Solutions” or ES started a partnership with a multinational Architecture design studio, DSC, through which Shawky

succeeded to export his corporate experience and knowledge to Qatar, Oman, and Abu Dhabi. The corporation took the responsibility of supervising numerous projects including the residential and commercial sectors. The corporation had also cooperated with a lot of Architecture consultancies, Architect Hany Saad was one of those who dealt with “ES” and was impressed by working with them, which moves us to the next turning point!

: Launching a special mission

I-CON SMART SOLUTIONS : I-CON MEP Smart Solutions In 2013, many sites were managed by “ES” in retailing and commercial fields, as previously mentioned, Architect Hany Saad was one of the Architects who assigned many projects to them, in order to supervise MEP and make sure that works are implemented according to specifications.

This encouraged Saad to make a suggestion: “Why don’t Shawky start implementing works?” not just to seek quality as consultants but to achieve it as executors. I-CON was established to be the Electro Mechanical Contracting Subsidiary Company for “ES”. I-CON started with executing residential projects, then gradually their realm included commercial, retailing, and restaurants.

From day one, I-CON’s main aim was to place all the MEP systems under their umbrella that roofs Electricity, pluming, HVAC, heating, home automation,firefighting, this will diminish the time needed for coordination between every segment and another, as it deals with the project as one block, therefore, time of execution will be compressed to the minimum. Taking care of workers is one of the policies that I-Con adopts, this is practically applied

by providing fixed means of transport for their laborers, putting in a system that keeps the labor’s medical and social insurances. “One united family”,it’s how the employees describe I-CON, all employees have direct accessibility to Eng. Becoming on board In 2011, Aly was hired as a Business Development Engineer in Plena Egypt, he found it a great chance which he could carry out his hopes and visions; as the main values that the establishment believed in, were the same as the ones that Aly was looking for. This prize was Cherif’s first contact with product design or just design, in the greater sense of the word. It was also his opportunity to “do something else”, to explore, to seek other meanings to his imagination. It literally started his career as a designer, not just an architect or just an interior designer or a graphic designer. He just became a designer. He is a staunch believer all fields of design are intricately connected and a “designer”, if he/she is considering taking his/her career as a life vocation as opposed to an occupation, should be able to surf between any given field of design, each with its challenges and complexities. However, Cherif confirms it is a feat that cannot be achieved without a rigorous work methodology mixed with an imagination open to acceptance and change. This is the only way that can make this mix possible, and successful.

Born 1971, Belgium After studying architecture at Cairo University, from which he graduated in 1994, he worked at a few architectural practices up until 1999 when he stumbled upon an international design competition organized by Alessi, the famous Italian household name, by pure coincidence! The competition’s theme was “Objects For Life On The Go, Nomadic Objects”. Cherif is currently one of a handful of designers from the Middle East to have designed products & furniture for some of the most respected international design powerhouses and brands such as Sawaya & Moroni (sawayamoroni.com, Italy), Covo (covo.it, Italy), Droog Design (droogdesign.nl, The Netherlands) etc.

When reflecting on his career spanning more than 20 years, he believes it is this specific link, bringing together many aspects of various industries to try and offer authentic alternatives, that can be reflected upon to track his design language so far.

Additionally, Cherif strongly believes his multi-cultural background has had a profound effect on his life and, accordingly, on his language as a designer. He also considers his work a very fine line between both Eastern and Western cultures making it a true representation of himself and probably a reflection of his own life, with the various experiences and diversity it entails.

He is from Egypt and studied architecture at Ain Shams University, many of his works have a sense of traditional Egyptian charm that is brought to life with contemporary elements, interesting prints, and bold colours.

Nassar learned the importance of colour and detail at an early age from his parents, who are also engineers. He grew up watching project sites and seeing engineering designs from drawing to implementation. He frequently visited showrooms and antique stores, which translated into his cozy, but sophisticated signature style.

Bedrooms vary according to usage and age category with respect to dimensions, colour palettes, materials, and the kind of items used. Master Bedrooms are focused on granting sensual comfort and sold as full setups, while Teenage Rooms are designed to be practical and ﬂexible to suit the variable indoor activities, utilities, and needs. Prologue I’m Eng. Marwan Noaman, I was born in Cairo in the year 1979, I founded Optimus for interior design and finishing in 2009.

My values In optimus, I and my team do our work out of love. I’m not that office guy who spends most of his time managing the works from the headquarter, I’m a person that cares about every detail, in my opinion, finishing the project is as important as the design itself to achieve the final form in a perfect way, that couldn’t happen without focusing on every element of our project. I could go to 3 to 4 sites that Optimus manages; to check them myself daily. We build a relationship with our client, a bond, to move off the scope of give and take and occupy a warmer spot where all sides feel more comfortable, occupying this point pushes Optimus to make more effort as we owe to them delivering us this emotion. We consider trust, satisfaction and good reputation our greatest achievements, when you reach these precious goals, you don’t work for the seek of money, but for the seek of your client’s happiness.

The secret behind founding Optimus Optimus’ main Trigger was asking a question: why don’t we use the spaces in our homes in an optimum way? In Europe, I saw their interior designs and how they usefully utilize their spaces even if the houses weren't spacious. Our main goal in Optimus is to create usable comfortable liveable houses in accordance with the main characteristics of this house

As the fifth generation’s representative managing Kahhal 1871, Mohamed El-Kahhal added science to his ancestor’s great craft with hand-knotted rugs, by gaining a finance degree in the US For more than a century, Kahhal 1871 had been a name linked with the finest quality Hand made carpets. If we want to compress Abdallah El Kahhal’s journey, the founder, in one word, it will be “Diversity”. He was a Syrian merchant who conquered the deserts and different lands to trade his products, he dealt with the Sudanese Mahdists, the Lybian Sanusis, and even the British officialdom in Cairo, his first store was opened in Khan Al-Khalili, in the Fatimid Cairo.

of the restaurant is based on the principle of reflection. Surrounded by the coastline sea and open sky, the interior walls are cladded with tampered metal sheets as the main interior element flowing like water throughout the space, reflecting the light of the environment around it. The firms’ philosophy; in which Architect. Our main criteria for design is interactions with clients, in a form of Workshops to fulfil the needs, parameters and requirements of the client. We design along with our clients, so they can enjoy the process. Therefore, trust is built and a story for the design concept becomes clear. Aesthetics are always debatable, however we as architects are story tellers and once the story is set, the place begins to retain character starting from the Macro Scale till the Micro Scale.

Raef Fahmi Architects and Planners will consult with the Developer to ascertain the applicable requirements of the project and the feasibility of achieving the Developer’s task. Before any design work can begin, it is necessary to identify and evaluate the existing conditions, define the needs and prepare preliminary documents.

Interior design is a powerful form of communication, specifically because it does not communicate with words. It speaks on a primal, emotional level and is thus more persuasive. But with great power of communication comes great responsibility, specifically that emerging self/corporate identities into the architecture/interior design was not a familiar practice in the local market for decades. Filling-in the gap was not a piece of cake mission, it needed patience, experience, and overall vision, these are the traits that assisted Architect Roxanne Sami to establish her own business “ RSI ”. We sat down with Roxanne Sami, the creative mind behind RSI to know more about her vision and how she impliments her vison . Can you tell us about the origin point of your career? I graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts - Interior Design department. After graduation, I worked as a junior designer at a well-known multinational establishment. Throughout the years I was granted the chance to work on brand identities with one of the leading entities in the world located in Paris. Working with international expertise in Europe has enriched my experience and knowledge during eight years, that turned me into a consultant and international expert in a field that is not locally common. And this is when I decided to start my own interior design studio.

What were the business' greatest challenges? Planting international standards in a dry local environment wasn’t easy. There is still a big gap on how people look at interior architecture, and what we call interior branding; and how this affects the visual identity and also marketing when it comes to commercial projects.

In the way we define interior, we at RSI work on everything from the floor, to the ceiling, the walls and everything in between; We even work on the corporate identity whenever we work on a commercial project; so that is almost everything you see. We Beleive that what we do affect people and their lives, it is like creating visual messages; and at the end you’ll want to be extra cautious that you’re not sending the wrong message!

How was the effect of the Pandemic on the business? Actually, Covid- 19 affected our business positively. Especially if we are talking about the residential sector. People started to invest more in their wellbeing and their own personal lives and this is when our clients realised that the home is the thing they should start with. I beleive that the pandemic got their attention back to their own surrowndings and how interior design may affect their emotions and wellbeing. What are RSI’s greatest achievements so far? Working with industry giants and popular international public figures that believed in our vision is quite an achievement that we should be proud of . We have worked with over than 50 multinational and well known organaziation around the world and the middle east.
