ARCHITECT BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION Eligible participants must be a licensed architect in the U.S. or Canada, and, if operating an existing design firm, must have been in business for five years or less. Interested architects should register online by March 28, 2014, and an executive summary of their business plan must be submitted by April 25, 2014. The winners will be announced at a special reception in Chicago, Illinois during the American Institute of Architects’ national convention on June 26, 2014. There is no cost to enter the competition. RSA US STUDENT DESIGN AWARDS COMPETITION The 2014 RSA US Student Design Awards program is open for undergraduate submissions until 19 March. We are looking for projects that are inherently beautiful and socially responsible that display ingenuity, aesthetics, and development potential. “Objects (…) become collective architectures when they are part of an interaction between object-place-users, from which actions result.” (Marcos Rosa, in Microplanning: Urban creative practices) Homemade Dessert, in cooperation with the Liepaja City Council, invites you to participate in the third international architecture vision competition on Karosta, Latvia: War Town Microtecture. Karosta translates as War Port (or Navy Harbor). It is located in the west of Latvia, in the city of Liepaja. Karosta used to be a secret military town for the Russian Empire, and later on for the Soviets. As Latvia regained its independence in 1991, the Soviet army had to leave Karosta. As a consequence, the population dropped dramatically from 25 000 to 6 000 inhabitants and the town has fallen into a state of partial despair. To cover all scales of Karostas urban revitalization plan, this time Homemade Dessert asks you to focus on Karosta’s small-scale architecture forms - playground areas, bus stops, benches and information signs, in order to develop a consistent concept to reinforce and reflect the identity of the Karosta. An essential aspect of good urban design is the capacity of the objects (no matter the scale) to become more than mere objects. They must be dependent on their relationships so as to complete an articulating scheme. As such there is no specific area of intervention. Those objects are supposed to be placed around the town, accordingly to your understanding of relationships they produce

YOUNG ARCHITECTS IN AFRICA

S.Architecture-Studio is holding an architectural competition which will highlight the dynamic young African architecture. The winning projects of this international competition open to young African architects will be exhibited in 2014 at the CA’ASI during the International Architecture Biennale, June 7 - Nov 23, 2014. This competition is a unique opportunity to underline the important role played by the African World today, as seen throughout it’s contemporary architecture. For the 14th International Architecture Biennale, the CA’ASI will open the doors of Palazzo Santa Maria Nova to emerging African architects in order to emphasize the creativity and originality of new African architecture, and to help it gain world-wide recognition. All documents must be submitted by March 15th, 2014 latest. An international jury will meet in Paris at the end of March, to select the winners and running projects. The awards ceremony will be held in Venice. The winners will then be invited to present their project at the CA’ASI in Venice, during the 14th International Architecture Biennale, as an exhibition is specially ongoing for the occasion

INTERNATIONAL NEWS From the architect. The Bridging Teahouse by FR-EE is one of the 17 pavilions in JinHua Architecture Park in the city of Jinhua, China. The park is located in the Jindong New District, a new area masterplanned by Herzog & de Meuron since 2003. CARBON FIBER TRICYCLE POWERED BY ELECTRIC SCREWDRIVER FOR RACE created specifically for the ‘screwdriver-race’ in hildesheim, germany, the 4000g carbon-fiber tricycle was designed in response to the theme ‘lightweight’. the competition takes place every two years between universities from germany and switzerland and a group of four students, enzomittelberger, jakobtaranowski, benediktschich and simonschmitz developed the racing cycle for ‘team hamburg’. using just one regular bosh 14V electric srewdriver, the tricycle reaches a top speed of 30 km/h and lasts for about 6 kilometers. the racing cycle consists of a structural framework that is laminated out of carbon pipes, with hubs made from aircraft aluminum and further components from track cycling were tuned to save on material and overall weight.

MVRDV TO COMPLETE REFLECTIVE PUBLIC ART DEPOT IN ROTTERDAM dutch practice MVRDV has won a competition to construct an art depot for the museum boijmans van beuningen (MBVB) in rotterdam. the project, entitled ‘the collection building’, which will form part of the city’s museumpark, will be completed in 2017. housed inside a reflective rounded volume, the 15,000 square meter program features public and private exhibition halls, a rooftop sculpture garden and a restaurant. the project allows local, national and international visitors to see the inner workings of a gallery, while private collectors will be able to store and view their own works within an ideal display environment

WE NEED A NATIONAL PROJECT National projects are projects enter within the public ownership and private ownership with public benefits that all people of the country can benefit from them. The national dream of all people in the world represents in its ability to predict the future and has a better future. The unity of directions and integrity of possibilities are the best way to achieve the great achievements that calls “the National Project”. They are projects differ from the national necessities required to be achieved such as independence or liberty of the occupied lands. Egypt witnessed, in many eras of its history, the gathering of its people around national objectives that gathered them to achieve a common dream among them in order to help them in discovering themselves. In such situations, the strong and solidarity of the Egyptian people appear when their dreams, ambitions, and hopes meet with leaders and bosses who can gather, mobile, and direct such great people onto achieving his dreams and goals. In the beginning of the modern age, the superior goal of Egyptians was “the complete independent or violent death”. At that time, the dream of independence from the British Occupation achieved. Then, the dream of constructing the high dam seduced the Egyptian people as a national project. That project carried out under the hands of the leader “Jamal Abdul-Nasser” in spite of great efforts and pains. The Egyptian people realized his dream of industrial and agricultural revolution. After 1967 setback, the Egyptian aim and dream was to defeat the non-subdue Israeli Army and the Egyptian people unionized under the leadership of the leader “Anwar Al-Sadat” and the glory victory of October 1973 became a real. Then, the project of desert invasion, development, and reconstruction was a national project. In the era of the president “Mohamed Hosny Mubarak”, the national project was “Tushki project” which, regret-

fully, neither give its fruit up-to date nor achieve its proposed objectives for many reasons. Since such time, Egyptian people lost its national project or a national dream that gather them under it for a long time. Who observes the community evolution may sense the extent of contraction of the national dream concept until today. Nowadays, when we try to discover ourselves and put Egypt on the beginning phase of the historical turning, a new national project appears in the horizon “Suez Canal District Development Project”. The project of Suez Canal District Development is not only a notional project but also an international one. It can achieve the good for Egypt and unify the people around it, if it is well planned and managed and the useful examples from the previous national projects in Egypt have considered getting ride from the old negativities and maximizing the proposed positivism. As for the importance of this national project, more than ten domestic consultant offices allied with global consultant offices, with good reputation and experiences, invited to conduct its studies and strategic plans in order to draw a development strategy from all aspects to the Suez Canal District project. The good management of this project has a great importance in the successfulness of the project through founding an independent authority under the direct supervision of the President or the Prime Minister that owns the custody on the lands within the geographical domain appointed for the project. This authority shall own all authorities of the state bodies and authorities working in the district in order to unify the decision-making and the responsibilities, which may eradicated when the state bodies contradicted in their specializations. Thus, the management of this national project may subject to strict mechanisms in order to trace and record the achievements of the project phases in economic, reconstcutional, so-

‫المســابقة واهميتهــا وتحــدث مطــوال عــن اهميــة علــم العمــارة‬ ‫والمــدارس المعماريــة المختلفــة التــى وجــدت فــى مصــر‬ ‫ومــن ثــم تميــز المعمارييــن المصرييــن حــول العالــم لهــذا‬ ‫الميــراث الثقافــى المعمــارى الثــرى مــن جهــة اخــرى تحــدث‬ ‫عــن العمــارة المحليــة وضــوروة تدشــين مدرســة معماريــة‬ ‫مصريــة مســتقلة ومتميــزة فــى الوقــت نفســه عــن المــدارس‬ ‫المعماريــة العالميــة ومنافســة لهــا وأكــد ان البدايــة الحقيقيــة‬ ‫لنشــئ مدرســة معماريــة فــى مصــر كانــت علــى ايــدى جيــل‬ ‫الــرواد أمثــال حســن فتحــى وكيــف تمكــن هــذا العبقــرى‬ ‫مــن التاكيــد علــى العناصــر المحليــة ومكونــات البيئــة لنشــأة‬ ‫وتطويــر مدرســة معماريــة مصريــة وكيــف أســهمت تلــك‬ ‫االفــكار فــى الوصــول للعالميــة مــن جهــة اخــرى تحــدث‬ ‫كثيــرا عــن اهميــة االهتمــام بالبيئــة مــن قبــل المعمارييــن‬ ‫وضــرورة االهتمــام بالمــوارد خاصــة غيــر المتجــددة مثــل‬ ‫الطاقــة وتحــدث حــول اهميــة علــم العمــارة لألنســان واكــد‬ ‫ان المهمــة االساســية وربمــا الوحيــدة للمعمــارى الــذى يمكــن‬

‫وقــد شــكر المعمارييــن المصرييــن علــى رؤيتهــم الرائعــة‬ ‫التــى قدمــت مــن خــال المشــروعات الفائــزة‪ ،‬وتحــدث عــن‬ ‫شــركة( ايطالــى ســمينتى ) ووجودهــا بالســوق المصريــة‬ ‫منــذ ‪ 15‬ســنة كمــا ان اســمنت الســويس ســتحتفل قريبــا‬ ‫بمــرور ‪ 10‬ســنوات وان الشــركة قــد اصبــح لديهــا قــدرات‬ ‫انتاجيــة وصلــت الــى ‪ 15‬مليــون طــن فــى العــام وكذلــك‬ ‫خمســة مصانــع بانحــاء مصــر المختلفــة‪ ،‬تحــدث كذلــك عــن‬ ‫افتخــار الشــركة بكونهــا مــن الشــركات القليلــة التــى تولــى‬ ‫اهميــة خاصــة للبيئــة واهميتهــا لتحقيــق االســتدامة مــن‬ ‫خــال اعلــى مواصفــات ممكنــة للجــودة مــن جهــة اخــرى‬ ‫مــدى المســاعدة التــى يقدمهــا االســمنت للمعماريــن النجــاز‬

‫اعمالهــم‪ ،‬وتحــدث كذلــك عــن منتــج الشــركة الجديــدة مــن‬ ‫االســمنت « الفوتاكتاينــى» والــذى يعنــى خلطــة اســمنتية‬ ‫تتفاعــل مــع المحيــط الحيــوى للمبنــى وهــو منتــج تــم تطويــره‬ ‫مؤخــرا « فوتوكاتليتــك ســمنت» كأحــدث منتجــات الشــركة‬ ‫مــن خــال مركــز ابحاثهــا فــى ايطاليــا مــن جهــة اخــرى‬ ‫تحــدث عــن الخرســانة الشــفافة « مزيــج مــن االســمنت‬ ‫والباســتيك» ممــا يمكــن المعمارييــن فــى تطويــر اعمالهــم‬ ‫واخيــرا بــدأت وقائــع تســليم الجوائــز بحديــث الســادة اعضــاء‬ ‫لجنــة التحكيــم فيمــا يتعلــق بقواعــد اختيــار المشــروعات‬ ‫الفائــزة ومــدى التقــارب الشــديد فــى المســتوى الراقــى‬ ‫للمشــروعات المقدمــة والــذى قــد صعــب مهمــة اللجنــة فــى‬ ‫اختيــار المشــروعات والمفاضلــة بينهــا‪.‬‬ ‫م ‪ /‬ابراهيم محلب رئيس الوزراء‪.‬‬

Seil is a design hotel. It is located on a 120 Feddan plot of land [half a million sqm]. The land containsan existing hotel on the southern edge of the site. ‫المشـــروع األن فـــي مرحله حفراألساســـات وقد‬ ‫تم البـــدء في هـــذه المرحلة في شـــهرنوفمبرلعام‬ ‫‪ 2013‬ســـيل فنـــدق مصمـــم ليكـــون صديـــق‬ ‫للبيئة‪.‬هـــذا الفنـــدق يوجد بقطعة أرض مســـاحتها‬ ‫‪ 120‬فدانـــأ ونصـــف مليـــون مترمربـــع‪ .‬يوجد‬ ‫فنـــدق حالي علىالجهـــة الجنوبية لهـــذه االرض‪.‬‬ ‫مهمتنـــا كنت تصميـــم ‪ 68‬غرفة ومبنى رئيســـي‬ ‫إضافة إلـــى ‪ 32‬غرفة قائمة علىالجهة الشـــمالية‬ ‫لـــأرض لخلـــق فنـــدق ‪ 100‬غرفة‪.‬عنـــوان‬ ‫المشروع وهوسيل يشـــيرإلى مخرات السيل التي‬ ‫تجري في الموقع والتي شـــكلت ســـمات ســـطح‬

‫األرض‪ .‬هـــذه المخرات كانت الوحي األساســـي‬ ‫فـــي التصميـــم ووجهـــت الخطـــوط األساســـية‬ ‫للمشـــروع‪ .‬الخطـــوط الغالبة فـــي األرض أفقية‬ ‫وحاولنـــا ابرازها في الفندق‪.‬وجود رياح شـــمالية‬ ‫شـــرقية ‪ 8‬أشـــهر في الســـنة والضوضاء اآلتية‬ ‫مـــن المولدات لـــدى الجار‬ ‫جعلتنـــا نبني الفنـــدق في أحضـــان الهضبة وليس‬ ‫فوقها‪.‬لتخفيض اســـتخدام الكهرباء وســـوف نعتمد‬ ‫على ســـخانات شمسية لتســـخين المياه‪.‬‬

‫عنهـا كميات من الخرسـانة المطلوبة في أجزاء‬ ‫مختلفـة مـن المشـروع‪ ،‬مثـل اسـتخدام النفايات‬ ‫الصلبـة‪ ،‬بمـا فـي ذلـك األليـاف الزجاجيـة‪،‬‬ ‫كسـر الزجـاج‪ ،‬البالسـتيك المطحـون‪ ،‬مخلفات‬ ‫الخشـب والـورق واإلطـارات القديمـة‪.‬‬ ‫ اسـتخدام المـواد البيئيـة المحليـة مثل الخشـب‬‫والحجروالزجـاج والطيـن‪.‬‬ ‫االسـتخدام االمثـل إلضـاءة النهارالطبيعيـة‬‫الغيـر مباشـرة فـى قاعـات القـراءة وغيرهـا‬ ‫مـن الفراغـات‪ ،‬باإلضافـة إلـى اسـتخدام أنظمة‬ ‫موفـرة للطاقـة فـي اإلضـاءة وتكييـف الهـواء‬ ‫وأنظمـة اعـادة تدويرمياه الصرف السـتخدامها‬ ‫فـي ري المسـطحات الخضـراء‪.‬‬

‫‪Environmental solutions:‬‬ ‫‪- The use of recycled aggregate‬‬ ‫‪materials that results in reduced‬‬ ‫‪amounts of concrete needed in‬‬ ‫‪different parts of the project, like‬‬ ‫‪using solid wastes, including:‬‬ ‫‪fiberglass waste materials,‬‬ ‫‪discarded‬‬ ‫‪glass,‬‬ ‫‪granulated‬‬ ‫‪plastics, wood products,waste‬‬ ‫‪paper and old tires.‬‬ ‫‪- Using local green materials,‬‬ ‫‪including wood, stone, glass and‬‬ ‫‪earth.‬‬ ‫‪- Allowing the maximum natural‬‬ ‫& ‪indirect daylight for reading halls‬‬ ‫‪other spaces, in addition to‬‬ ‫‪using power saving systems‬‬ ‫‪in lighting & air-conditioning‬‬ ‫‪and recycled water systems for‬‬ ‫‪irrigating the green areas.‬‬

‫‪Functions includereading: halls‬‬ ‫‪for children & youth, activities hall,‬‬ ‫‪a multipurpose hall, computer hall,‬‬ ‫‪galleries for children’s artworks,‬‬ ‫‪service areas, terraces for outdoor‬‬ ‫‪activities,‬‬ ‫‪amphitheater‬‬ ‫‪and‬‬ ‫‪children’s garden.‬‬ ‫‪The project is an attempt to adopt‬‬ ‫‪advanced technological content‬‬ ‫‪and at the same time meeting‬‬ ‫‪the needs of the site, the function‬‬ ‫& ‪of the building and the social‬‬ ‫‪environmental conditions.The aim‬‬ ‫‪was creating an innovative design‬‬ ‫& ‪concept that encourages children‬‬ ‫‪young people to use the library and‬‬ ‫‪do some activities in an interesting‬‬ ‫‪& attracting environment with‬‬ ‫‪unique experience. As the weather‬‬ ‫‪in Cairois mild for most of the year‬‬ ‫‪with rarely rainfall, the design‬‬ ‫‪wide-opened to the outdoor and‬‬ ‫‪embraced the landscapewith‬‬ ‫‪wide glass areas and terraces as‬‬ ‫‪it is an extension of nature, which‬‬ ‫‪encourages the outdoor activities‬‬ ‫‪and provides natural daylight to‬‬ ‫‪all spaces.The ability of resizing,‬‬ ‫‪joining or separating the reading‬‬ ‫‪rooms according to the needs‬‬ ‫‪through lightweight recycled‬‬ ‫‪partitions allows more flexibility‬‬ ‫‪in spaces. Using wide solid walls‬‬ ‫‪for projected images or drawings‬‬ ‫‪by the users makes the building a‬‬ ‫‪changing piece of art, which turns it‬‬ ‫‪to a more dynamic and interesting‬‬ ‫‪place. Separated circulation for the‬‬ ‫‪library, services & other activities‬‬ ‫‪was established to give more‬‬ ‫‪fluidity in case of large group visits.‬‬ ‫‪The economical factor was taken in‬‬ ‫‪mind starting from the simplicity‬‬ ‫‪& flexibility of the design to the‬‬ ‫‪use of local green materials like‬‬ ‫‪glass, wood, stone and recycled‬‬ ‫‪materials.‬‬

lines including “AhwaSada”, “Supernatural” and “Lattice Forms” which will be exhibited in Cairo in March 2014. We have recently won the first phase of the Egyptian Export Council’s annual Design + Industry Competition and will potentially be exhibiting our work in the SaloneInternationale of Milano in April 2014. Studio Meem’s first architectural project was recently constructed in Kuwait. Its architectural design of a disaster relief center in Istanbul with architect Omar Rabie was among the top 8 projects shortlisted for the ThyssenKrupp Elevator Architecture AWARD in 2011. In addition to design work, Studio Meem is working on a forthcoming art publication co-authored with David Puig and titled: Learning from the Sidewalk: 1001 Street Chairs in Cairo. This publication will explore the city of Cairo and its urban dynamics through the lens of an often overlooked and apparently banal object: the street-chair.

The main design criteria were the following: CULTURAL AND LOCAL CONFORMITY – Fit in with appropriate traditional local respecting the integrity of the place and the culture of it’s people. SOCIAL INTERACTION – Providing indoor and outdoor spaces for social interaction between the different visitors to the center while valuing everyone’s privacy. CLIMATE – Surviving in the hot arid desert climate without the need for an AC by using the prevailing

wind and implementing a few simple principles of aerodynamics. BUILDING MATERIAL – local, appropriate, sustainable, cost effective Concrete & Steel were ruled out as building materials as they have long transportation routes, are expensive and are neither climatic nor culturally appropriate. The red burnt brick is cost efficient and locally available, as there is a brick factory 5 km away from the building site. When built in wall bearing technique the wall will provide sufficient thermal mass to adapt to variations of temperature. So far, all visitors to the center agree that even during the hottest days the prevailing winds, together with the thermal insulating mass of the walls create a rather pleasant climate inside the building and its courtyard even during the hot desert days. All the buildings are designed, planned and built in the wall bearing construction technique using the red burnt brick for walls and ceilings. All ceilings (ground floor and upper floor) are exclusively built with red bricks using the traditional techniques of vaults and domes. Concrete has only been used in the foundations.

One of the other projects Hend El Dahan presented at the ArchVisionprize is the Solar Decathlon House of the Technical University of Darmstadt (TUD). The Solar Decathlon is an architectural and engineering competition organized by the US Ministry of Energy for universities worldwide. 48

Shahira›s work ranges from Architecture and Master Planning to Product Design, and her collaborations both on projects and exhibitions - reflect her strong belief in the value of teamwork. Such collaborations have included: the new campus for American University Cairo (2005), with Legoretta+legorreta, Abdel Halim Ibrahim, and Sasaki; the Ahmed Bahaa EI-Dih Cultural Center (2010), with Dar el Handasah; and the exhibition ‹Home in the Arab World› - at the 2012 London Architectural Festival -in collaboration with Bas Princen. Alongside her practice work, Shahirahas

been a Lecturer, panelist and a critic at Universities and Institiutionsthroughout the world. Dr Dalila ElKerdany projects is a Professor of Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University; a practicing architect; and a Chairman of MIMAR Engineering Consultancy. She obtained her undergraduate studies, M.Sc. in Architecture, as well as Ph.D. in Architecture from Cairo University in the years 1979, 1986, and 1992. During the years 19891992 she was a visiting fellow at the University of California at Berkeley. The Aga Khan Award for Architecture 2001 Cycle invited her to participate in the technical review team for the nominated projects from Turkey. She is involved in research, education, as well as practice in the fields of design, conservation, and heritage. Ms. ElKerdany is a recipient of many competitions’ awards and actively involved in the architecture profession of Egypt. She is convinced and caries a mission that architecture and heritage conservation should be tools for community comprehensive and sustainable development. Among the rehabilitation projects that she undertook are: the restoration and rehabilitation for Damnhour Center for Art and Culture Creativity (opened 2013), Royal Carriages Museum (under construction), the rehabilitation of the new premises of the Iraq Embassy in Cairo (2012), museum scenario for the

Mohamed Aly Collection at the Citadel (2001), the rehabilitation of Hasshad theater for the Faculty of Agriculture at Cairo University (1996), a bank in the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University (1997). These buildings belong to the late 19th, early 20th century period. She also was a main consultant for the revitalization of RijalAlmaa heritage village in Saudi Arabia (2008-2009). With a large team she is designing the exhibition and interior design; and supervises the construction of the Akhnaton museum in Menya (20062013). She is the coordinator and main researcher for the EU funded research projects “HAMMAM” (2005-2008), and “Hammamed” (2009-2011). Both projects dealt with putting strategies for the sustainable conservation of Islamic public bathes within the Mediterranean area in a multidisciplinary approach, while considering both tangible and intangible heritage of this unique building type. be a pretty one allowing us to break free from the common every day routine life. Cinema and the life inside the HOME* are interconnected and yet show differences in what they extend. While cinema is capable of flashing images from the past onto the screen , a life at HOME* asserts itself always in the present. Curiously, this is what the mind does to itself throughout life, however the cinema remains intimately real.Of course, it is not reality but it is an enjoyable extension of the un-reality of daily perception. As mentioned before, life at HOME manifests itself in the presents, this is the reason why it can make it more real than normal .... which can make it so disturbing as well. Art is another angle through which we can examine life at HOME*. Generally, in society the role of art is nebulous. Many people live perfectly well without any art at all and even if they regret its absence , it does not block their functioning in any way. But at HOME* ...if we consider living with the basic human needs and gestures only , essentially the simplest performance thereof , why can’t we introduce artistic elements to enhance life with a pitch and pace, intonation and rhythm, position and distance mood, scents , sounds, color and shape . Considerations such as the height of the table, the position of the chair , the texture of the fabric , the brightness of the light, the quality of emotion, all of these matter at all times.The aesthetics should be a part of our daily practical life. Imagine all people begin to live with a con-

scious pursuit of beauty, harmony, balance and love on a daily basis. Imagine a city with the sum of all these beautiful aspirations spreading the air of perfection all around us. What a living experience that would be ... positive energy disseminating .... This can evoke future living confrontations from a brilliant state of mind ... a discerning unique intensity. As a working designer I continue to search for ways to evolve in order to halt decay. Similar evolution must take place in political systems where ideas and conclusions are drawn in order to be reborn in a new light over and over. It is almost impossible to assess the function of a living concept ...theory ...model... so if anyone attempts to use my words about HOME * as a manual , all I can do is warn him/ her; there are no formulas or methods. I can describe and exercise or a technique but whoever tries to reproduce them from my descriptions is certain to be disappointed. I would teach anyone all that I know about HOME* ‘s rules and techniques in a few hours.However, the rest is relentless practice ...and that cannot be done alone. All we can do is to follow this to a limited degree if we examine the preparation of any HOME* project. To elevate our perception in Life We need conciousness we need the practice of intellectual systems we need to change we need to change we need to change.

On Thursday 6th of March 2014, Citystars mall hosted the opening ceremony of “The Furniture Show” event lasting to April 19, 2014. Mr. Ahmed El Dib, Chairman of Egypt Expo & Convention Authority (EECA) witnessed the opening event on behalf of his Excellency Eng. Mounir Fakhry AbdelNour the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, along with Mr. Ihab Derias Chairman of the Egyptian Furniture Export Council, Eng. Shereef Abdel Hady Chairman of the Chamber of woodworking and Furniture Industry, in addition to Mr. Mohamed Abo Al Yazeed the Managing Director for Citystars center, along with number of businessmen and heads of departments at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment. Mr. Ahmed El Dib spoke highly of the high level of quality that the Egyptian furniture sector reached and how it can competes with the international products, confirming that all the ministry›s departments are keen on supporting this immerging industry and facilitating all the problems that might face the industrial sector internally or externally. Mr. Ihab Derias the chairman of the Egyptian Furniture Export Council declared that this event aims to introduce the Egyptian furniture sector to the Egyptian society reaching a high level throughout the past years which enabled this industry to participate in the biggest International Egyptian fairs and to increase the furniture exports figures from 42 Million L.E in the year 2005 to 147 Billion L.E last year. He also added that this is the first time that Citystars management host such event where industrial gatherings will last for 45 days out of its role to support the industrial sector and the Egyptian economy growth.

From his side Mr. Mohamed Abo Al Yazeed added that hosting these kinds of industrial events in Citystars mall for free will continue till the end of this year stating that they are preparing for another sectoral event for the readymade garments right after the end of the Furniture Show event. He also added that Citystars management in collaboration with the Egyptian Furniture Export Council and the Chamber of woodworking & furniture Industry have decided to open the event for public free of charge. In addition the event is witnessing great discounts as it is made for the direct sale to the public along with targeting the biggest importers for the Egyptian furniture pointing that one of the most important aims is introducing the success and progress in such national industries to the public because Egypt has the highest technology and the most skillful human resources. Moreover this initiative is one of the most important initiatives that we witnessed recently especially that having a permanent showroom is far more expensive as the displaying a real life art piece or a complete painting requires not only having furniture

pieces but also includes lighting units, accessories and home textiles; like a real life mock up said Eng. Shereef Abdel Hady the chairman of the Chamber of woodworking Furniture Industry. ‫مشروع كفاءة الطاقة‪.‬‬ ‫الفائز شركة امبور ‪Empawer‬‬ ‫قدمــت الشــركة عــدة حلــول لمعالجــة مــن اجــل‬ ‫تقديــم الطاقــة الخضــراء والميــاه لمجتمــع كبيــر‬ ‫ممــا ســاعدها فــي توفيــر ‪ 32.1‬ميجــا وات وأيضــاً‬ ‫‪ 147.000‬طــن مــن ‪ Co2‬ســنوياً فــي دبــي‪.‬‬ ‫مشروع البناء األخضر‬ ‫الفائز ‪Aecom and the passiv villa‬‬ ‫حيــث ارتــأت لجنــة التحكيــم مكافــأة الشــركة‬ ‫والمشــروع الــذي يمكــن تكــراره عبــر البــاد علــي‬ ‫رســم هندســي وتصميمــي مــن ألمانيــا‪ ،‬وكانــت‬ ‫نتيجــة ذلــك إيجــاد بنــاء يســتهلك طاقــة أقــل فــي (‬ ‫فــي األجــوار المفتوحــة ) وهــو األول مــن نوعــه‬ ‫فــي دولــة قطــر‪.‬‬
