SMART GRID

SMART MANAGEMENT OF DEVICES + TEMPORARY BATTERY STORAGE = OWN FINAL CONSUMPTION OPTIMIZATION

SMART GRID AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Electricity produced from renewal sources is mainly fed into the grid. Only part of this electricity is used directly.

kWh

An estimate has been made that only 30% of the energy produced is con-

0,7

sumed, whilst the remainder is fed into the grid.

0,6

Electricity for own consumption, i.e. the part of energy used directly, is subject to the load profile of each house.

0,8

0,5

Normally, the greater part of electricity in a residential environment is

0,4

required during the hours of the evening and night; a period during which

0,3

there is no production of photovoltaic-generated electricity.

0,2

A solution to such a problem is to store the excess energy in order to use

0,1

it as and when required. Through a storage system it is possible to imple-

0,0

ment TIME-SHIFTING; i.e. to use the energy produced by renewable sources at a time subsequent to its production. The energy produced, therefore, if not directly used will be stored to be used at a later stage without having to buy it from a provider.

Through an intelligent check of energy production it is also possible to modify the load profile of a house.

0,5

Modifying the load profile means checking and activating consumption at

0,4

the moment of greater production. By means of radio-controlled sockets

0,3

commanded by a central unit that processes the energy production data, it is possible to activate e.g. a washing machine, heat pump or recharge an electric car. The union of the time-shifting and intelligent modification of the load profile gives a considerable increase in household final consumption and a reduction of the energy drawn from the net.
