This seminar series and combined wet lab will introduce the veterinarian to entry level abdominal ultrasound imaging in the small animal practice. The seminar consists of four, 50-minute lectures. The basic physics, an overview of instrumentation, common artifacts, and scanning techniques will be reviewed as well as normal anatomy and appearance of the abdominal organs. Wet lab participants will be introduced to basic ultrasound image manipulation (knobology), physics and artifacts of abdominal ultrasound, learn scanning techniques, know how to identify normal abdominal structures through scanning of live animals. The lecture and wet lab is geared toward entry level abdominal ultrasound. Interaction between the radiologist and the participants will be encouraged.

This lab is useful for veterinarians at all skill levels when it comes to surgical extractions in the dog. Participants will be given instruction on surgical extraction techniques for the major teeth, including maxillary and mandibular canines, maxillary fourth premolars, and mandibular first molars. Using cadaver specimens, principles of proper instrumentation, flap development, alveolar bone removal and management, tooth sectioning, and tension-free closure will be discussed and practiced. Participants will have the flexibility to choose which procedures to perform based on their own experience level. Equipment Sponsored by

By the end of this course participants should have a thorough understanding of: • how to successfully perform a variety of practical soft tissue surgery techniques • recent developments and new techniques in soft tissue surgery • develop a better appreciation for the regional anatomy for each procedure performed • the instructors’ philosophical and technical views on performing a variety of soft tissue surgery procedures This course is designed to teach participants the technical aspects of a variety of practical soft tissue surgery procedures. Some ‘theory’ will be included in the lectures, but emphasis will be placed on ‘how’ to perform each procedure. The instructor will utilize video clips of clinical cases that represent the procedures participants will perform in the lab. Participants will perform the surgical procedures immediately after viewing the video. Ideally, the videos will be viewed in the lab so no time is wasted between seeing the procedure and then performing it on the cadaver. Topics have been chosen that represent surgical conditions commonly seen in veterinary practice and will include: salivary gland resection, TECA-LBO, urethrotomy/urethrostomy, anal sacculectomy, chest drain placement, diaphragmatic hernia repair, splenectomy and incisional gastropexy for the treatment of GDV.

This seminar series and combined wet lab are designed for veterinarians who want to further their training in small animal ultrasound. Lectures will briefly review ultrasound physics and artifacts, and assist the participants in finetuning the image. Normal intra-abdominal structure will be reviewed and abnormal intra-abdominal pathology will be emphasized. Wet lab participants will gain experience in completing a routine small abdominal ultrasound examination, knowledge of normal sonographic anatomy and appearance of commonly identified pathologies. Some of the more challenging intra-abdominal structures to image will be emphasized. The topics to be covered will include, (1) an overview of relevant state and federal regulatory agencies, (2) specific requirements for prescribing and/or dispensing prescription (legend) drugs and (3) procedures for procuring, maintaining and renewing a license from the Drug Enforcement Agency to purchase and prescribe controlled drugs. Sunday, November 1, 2015 7:00 am – 8:50 am Grand Ballroom C Laws and Rules Governing the Practice of Veterinary Medicine - Edwin Bayó, JD This course is designed as a two-hour oral and visual presentation. Attendees should leave the presentation with a firm grasp of the requirements of Chapter 455, F.S., Rule 61G18, F.A.C., and the Florida Veterinary Practice Act, Chapter 474, F.S. Advanced Registration It is strongly recommended that you register in advance for our 3rd Annual Gulf-Atlantic Veterinary Conference. Registration is required for all aspects of the meeting. Your registration covers all CE sessions, access to the Conference Exhibit Hall, conference proceedings, reception in the exhibit hall, other social events, and all complimentary refreshment breaks. Registration does not cover ticketed social activities and wet labs. Wet labs carry a separate fee, and attendees are encouraged to register for wet labs early to secure their seats. Pre-registration is required for all workshops. Advanced registration deadline is September 25, 2015. After this date, a late registration fee of $75 for veterinarians, $25 for team members, will be added to all registrations, including on-site registrations. Please contact us if any information in the confirmation is incorrect for timely correction of the error. Cancellation Policy Cancellation deadline for a full refund of registration fees minus a $50 administrative charge is September 25, 2015. Complimentary self-parking is only available for the guests with Bungalow accommodations. Daily self-parking will be available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the employee garage adjacent to the Mizner Center. The price will be $6.00 per entry and only cash will be accepted. Early checkouts prior to attendee’s reserved checkout date will incur an early checkout fee equaling to one night’s room plus tax, if attendee does not inform the hotel of the change in planned length of stay at or before check-in.
