There is par for each hole, mimicking golf’s scorecard, and you still play as a twosome, threesome or foursome. The main differences are the cups, which are 21 inches in diameter, shorter holes and the lack of equipment needed. Come try this exciting new sport.
9 Hole Fees Adults $7; Youth $4; Family $1 off per player Age 14 and under play free with a paid adult. Soccer Ball rental: $5

Needles and Threads Return of the Rag Rug Rag rug making is just one of many “forgotten skills of self-sufficiency” used by pioneers on the frontier. And, like many others, it has returned more as a hobby or craft than a necessity. The rag rug is made from long strips of fabric that are braided, coiled and sewn into a flat spiral. They can be solid color, multi-colored, circular, square, left with ragged edges or seamed for a neater finish. For a Blue Jean Rag Rug you will need to bring 5 pairs of worn out jeans. For the Rag Rug, you will need to bring old clothes, sheets or long scraps of fabric. Also please bring to class if you can: a portable sewing machine, thread, scissors, seam ripper, quilting mat, quilting acrylic ruler and a rotary cutter. We only have a limited number on hand to share. Ages 13+. Instructor: Linda Wade. Registration deadlines: September 21 and October 17. Min. 5. Max. 10. Visit Germany Blumengarten: A German story July 1-November 12 From summer to fall we celebrate our German twin, the City of Gera, with a special Blumengarten (flower garden) and interpretive displays. A European-style town square, casual biergarten, and practical “small” garden will give Conservatory visitors a taste of the region of Thuringia, “the green heart of Germany.” Established in medieval times but influenced by the modern era, Gera has a different feel than that of familiar Bavaria. Explore the culture of Thuringia with a hallway display spotlighting regional contributions. Join us in discovering more about Gera, our sister city for 25 years! Sponsored by WAJI Majic 95.1, ABC 21 WPTA, the M.E. Raker Foundation, Wilson Foundation, and Auer Foundation.
Biergarten Games What’s a Biergarten, you ask? From the German, Biergarten literally translates to Beer Garden, an outdoor area where beer and local food are served at shared tables. This “adults only” interactive cultural event will offer traditional German food and entertainment, live music, games and, of course, beer. We will provide an atmosphere reminiscent of times with friends and strangers spent in Biergartens throughout Germany. Your ticket includes garden admission, German food with dessert, one drink ticket, games and entertainment. We’ll organize participants into small teams for some friendly competition over the course of the evening, involving a variety of favorite German pastimes -- singing, dancing, teamwork, and tests of skill and strategy. Winners earn prizes! Cash bar will be available. Singles, couples, and groups are welcome. Groups of 3 or more must register by phone at (260) 427-6000. When you register, please specify names of those you wish to be in your group. This is a rain or shine event! Age 21+. Registration deadline: September 8. German Twin Choral Concert Sunday, October 8, 2:00-3:30 p.m. Visit the Conservatory gardens and celebrate our German twin city – Gera – with a lively afternoon concert of German song presented by Fort Wayne’s world-traveled twin chorale of Männerchor and Damenchor (the men’s and ladies’ choirs). This joint club preserves the German heritage that runs in the veins of a large percent of Fort Wayne’s population. The lyrics are German, but you’ll get the gist as choral director Tom Remenschneider introduces each piece. In addition, local author and German native Christel Gehlert will relate the story of how our Sister City relationship emerged after the Fall of the Berlin Wall, and how that friendship was cemented by the sharing of song. The first 100 will receive a free vinyl decal to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our twinning with Gera, Germany. The concert is included with regular Conservatory admission.

Kathryn Clark: Watercolor, Graphite, Oil Painting September-October Public Reception: September 3, 1:00-3:00 p.m. Kathryn Clark was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, and received both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Fine Art. In 1971, she and her husband founded Twinrocker Handmade Paper and were central to the revival of handmade paper in America. When Twinrocker Handmade Paper began making watercolor paper in 1985, Kathryn began painting watercolors to test the papers. She soon fell in love with the medium and has been painting ever since. Today, Kathryn exhibits art works in watercolor, graphite, and more recently oil. She was voted an artist member of the Indiana Artists Club, the Brown County Art Guild in Nashville, IN, Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society, and the Hoosier Salon. She’s also won awards in juried exhibitions at the Hoosier Salon, Indiana Heritage Arts, Indiana Artists Club, and more.

Anita grew up in Southern California, graduating from USC with a BA in English. Art was always part of her life from an early age, even though she had no formal training. As a career Army officer’s wife, she took art workshops wherever they were stationed. Her goal is to capture the excitement of a fresh snowfall, a colorful flower, an interesting building, or a spectacular sunset. She is an avid photographer, always ready for that special photo. She mostly enjoys painting in her home studio, but will paint en plein air on occasion. She has taken watercolor classes for several years with local artist Lynn Diamente and has attended workshops taught by various artists preparing her in the areas of watercolors, acrylics, pastels and oils.

Snow Days Holiday Garden Exhibit November 18-January 7 Do you remember when school was cancelled because of unexpected winter weather? Snow days were a surprise, a break in routine, an invitation to play. In the Conservatory’s holiday imagination, snowkids go out for snowball fights and forts while snowmoms bake cookies and prepare hot chocolate. Snowmen and snow angels mark the spot where families spent time together. After sunset the light lingers, bouncing off that white blanket of snow. Wet gloves and boots are dried by the fire and everyone recounts their tales of the day over a supper of soup and cheese toasties. Then it’s off to bed…because there might be school again tomorrow. Sponsored by WAJI Majic 95.1, PBS 39 and the Wilson Foundation.

Use Your Senses Forest Bathing Walk (Shinrin-Yoku) Forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku, is the experience of immersing oneself in the sensory gifts of nature. This can be done in a forest setting, but also in gardens and parks. The benefits are not only a greater sense of well-being, but a boost in immune function and ready access to lower stress hormones and boosts in serotonin levels. This is not your regular walk in the park, but a series of invitations using the senses to rediscover your inner child and your connection with the natural world. Being relaxed, revitalized, and better equipped to handle the stresses of daily living are the goals of this forest bathing walk. Instructor Christy Thomson is a life-long resident of northeast IN. She is the only certified forest therapy guide in Indiana and is thrilled to share this opportunity with the Fort Wayne community. Ages 18+. Read or Write Writing Your Memoirs You don’t need to have a hardscrabble youth in order to write a memoir. You don’t even need eccentric parents. Believe it or not, you don’t need anything dramatic . . . and you certainly don’t have to publish it. A memoir is about handing over your life to someone and saying, “This is what I went through, this is who I am, and maybe you can learn something from it.” It’s about creating a legacy that doesn’t have dollar signs in front of it but has a far greater residual value for family and friends. It’s a gift that only you can share. Let author Linda Wade help you put pen to paper and begin to tell your story. Ages 50+. Registration deadlines: August 31 and October 26. Min. 6. Max. 12. Unwind Your Mind Activities for Those with Signs of Early Dementia Call 427-6461 or 427-6466 to register for these programs. A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia is life changing. Because individuals with dementia often feel isolated and disconnected, it is important that opportunities to participate in community activities that are meaningful, creative, and social are made available to them. Such activity can provide a sense of competence, a reduction in depression, and improved relationships with family members. Studies have shown that arts, crafts, computers and social activities help slow mild cognitive loss by up to 50%. The Parks and Recreation Department offers classes and activities at the Community Center for those those with signs of early dementia.
