With the heat and humidity of the southern summer fading, now is the perfect time to be outside. Simply create an inviting outdoor space with a fire pit and some Adorandac Chairs to enjoy the warmth of the fire and even make some s’mores. Or, go all out with an outdoor kitchen with a grill and outdoor seating and dining areas in front or a brick or stone fireplace. Add a TV above the mantle for game time, which brings me to my final and most fun tip #5

#5

It’s football season! If it is too cold outside, create a room or move your furniture around to invite guests over to watch the big game. Many clients of mine have multiple TV setups to watch several games at a time. You don’t have to go to the local sports bar. Bring the sports bar to your home with fun table scapes and delicious game day treats in the colors and logos of your favorite teams!

One top trend to improve your home’s value Hardwood Flooring

(BPT) - Whether you’re thinking about selling your home or just making some updates, it’s always smart to consider renovations that will enhance the enjoyment of your home and increase your property’s long-term value. One key improvement many homeowners consider is updating their home’s flooring to solid or engineered hardwood, an investment that can maximize a home’s style and value.

Hardwood flooring instantly transforms a space, and you can choose from many types and hues of wood to suit the design style that’s just right for you. You can also stay on-trend by using hardwood flooring throughout your home to achieve a seamless, cohesive look.

“Hardwood flooring is always a standout feature that brings timeless, stylish appeal to any home,” says Jennifer Meska, Head of Merchandising at LL Flooring. “Solid or engineered hardwood flooring provides a natural look that can vary across colors, finishes and styles, instantly adding updated style and sophistication to any home.”

The National Realtor Association’s 2022 Remodeling Impact Report found that homeowners who install new hardwood flooring get an average return on investment (ROI) of up to 118%. On top of that, the National Wood Flooring Association has found that 99% of real estate agents believe homes with quality

hardwood floors are easier to sell, and 90% believe they sell for a higher price. All of this means that hardwood floors can essentially pay for themselves in resale value.

The Timeless Appeal of Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood floors have been around for a long time, and for good reason. They can create the perfect complement to a wide range of home design styles, offering natural tone, beauty and sophistication that’s hard to duplicate with any other material.

On top of that, hardwood floors are known for their timeless quality - hardwood has been a trusted flooring material for hundreds of years, and it’s near-assured that they will stay in style for generations to come.

Another advantage of hardwood flooring is that you can choose from a wide variety of styles and species of wood to achieve different looks, and you can consider either solid or engineered hardwood for even more options depending on the needs of your home.

Here are just a couple of examples of selections available to today’s homeowners from LL Flooring’s Bellawood premium line of solid and engineered hardwood, which offers a 100-year residential warranty.

Classic, Enduring Style

Hickory is the hardest of all North American woods, making it perfect for those who want beauty and long-lasting quality, especially for high-traffic areas. The 5-inch-wide planks in LL Flooring’s Natural Hickory Solid Hardwood Flooring are factory finished with premium aluminum oxide for a fortified finish, offering excellent resistance to stains, scuffs and scratches. This natural option in hickory flooring stands out for its highcontrast color variations and unique grain patterns, with colors running from light tans to deep browns and reddish tones laced throughout. Hickory floors are equally attractive in a more classic or traditional style home, for a sophisticated and modern city loft or a rustic country cabin.

Modern Engineered Elegance

LL Flooring’s Claire Gardens Oak Engineered Hardwood Flooring gives you the option for on-trend, wider planks (8.5 inches wide). The buttery cream coloring of this classic white oak flooring gives these blonde planks an inviting lightness and beauty that complements a variety of today’s preferred styles, ranging from modern farmhouse, minimalist and Scandinavian to biophilic, eclectic and bohemian designs.

Engineered hardwood is an enhanced wood product that offers improved performance, and lighter tones can help to reflect the light in any room of your home for a more open, bright and airy ambience.

Whichever hardwood flooring option you choose, you can relax and enjoy its beauty now and for years to come - or prepare your home to sell - knowing that you’ve made a sound investment in the future of your home.

Increase Productivity Create A Comfortable, Ergonomic Workspace

(BPT) - How’s your office working for you? According to a recent survey from organizational solution brand, Mind Reader, 86 percent of people see their workspace as having an impact on their happiness - which makes an organized office at home or at work essential to keeping a positive mood. If you’re setting up your workday in different spots at home throughout the day (18 percent), hunkering down at your dining table (17 percent), or working exclusively from bed (16 percent) it might be time to revamp your workspace to an ergonomic, organized and functional area. Your overall health, well-being, and productivity will thank you.

A comfortable home office not only supports a positive mindset but can allow you to maintain good posture throughout the day, reducing strain on your neck, back, and shoulders and helping you feel your best when powering through a busy day. Positioning your computer correctly, whether you’re using a monitor or a laptop, can reduce eye and arm strain and fatigue, not to mention the extra focus you’ll get when you’re not hunched over your screen all day long. Even something as simple as organizing your office supplies cuts down on wasted time and frustration.

According to the survey from Mind Reader, 83 percent feel more productive if their workspace is organized and - if it were more organized - believe they could increase their productivity by 38 percent. Creating an ergonomic, organized workspace at home

or in the office doesn’t have to be complicated or fancy. It’s about finding simple, intuitive solutions that you can use to transform a corner of your home or apartment into a place where you can focus on your work and get the job done in comfort.

Here are a few simple ways to create a comfortable, ergonomic home office.

Desk

Start with the basics. You do not need an enormous mahogany desk suitable for the Oval Office. Just a work surface big enough for your laptop or monitor, or both, where you can comfortably type with your arms at a 90-degree angle. If you prefer a standing desk, you can find models for under $50 that are adjustable and portable.

Chair

A supportive, ergonomic chair is half the battle. You’ll be sitting in it for much of the day, so make it work for you. But, you don’t have to invest hundreds of dollars in a new office chair. You can transform the chair you already have with inexpensive back supports and cushions. Mind Reader, the experts in creating organized, ergonomic home workspaces, offers a few varieties of backrests and cushions, all for under about $40. It’s that affordable and easy.

Screens

Now let’s talk about your screens. To avoid eye strain, you should position your monitor or laptop at eye level. Oftentimes, this means you need a monitor stand. You can make it dualfunctioning by finding one that has drawers underneath for paper and pens. That handled, be mindful of how long you stare at that screen. Eye professionals recommend using the 20-20-20 ruleevery 20 minutes, look at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This gives your eyes a reset from all of that screen time.

Foot Rest

You will be surprised by how much difference an ergonomic foot rest makes when you’re sitting at your desk all day. It helps you maintain correct posture and reduces the strain on your back and legs, alleviating swelling in your ankles and feet. Many models are adjustable and come with massage rollers for an added boost. Again, these don’t have to be expensive. This Mind Reader Foot Rest is under $30, adjustable, and includes those massage rollers.

Cables

All of those tangled cords are just plain messy and disruptive to look at. Wrangle them with a cable tray you can position under your desk, a cable management snake, or ties and clips to keep them under control and out of your line of sight.

Storage

If you’re set up at your kitchen table, where are all of your office supplies? The solution is a wheeled storage cart with drawers. You can pop your office supplies like printer paper, notepads, pens, and whatever else you use into the drawers. Roll it out when you need to use it, and tuck it into the corner when you end your workday.

With these simple tips, you can create a better home workspace that will elevate your productivity and contribute to your health and well-being, too. For more ideas, visit Mind Reader.

Design Trend Report

(BPT) - “Style and design surround us - impacting how we feel, the personality of a room or the energy of a space,” said Laura Grilli, director of product design for Daltile. “As a fashion-driven tile brand, Daltile has recently produced its Trend Report 2024 to help homeowners, designers and architects create fresh, breathtaking spaces.”

Coastal Retreat

Coastal Retreat is the design trend of deeply breathing in life - making our souls feel invigorated yet calm. Creating a sense of relaxation, typical of a vacation destination, is many times achieved in this trend by replicating a Mediterranean vibe. Sunbaked colors bring the Mediterranean sun, waves and reinvigorating seaside air into a room’s aesthetics. Mix in a touch of free-spirited style to further breathe life into a space, complete with macrame, woven banana bark, handmade crafts and indigenous patterns to keep things real! The soothing sense of cocooning is also part of Coastal Retreat, finding balance, peace, calm and harmony through rounded shapes, sculptural lines and curves that are welcoming and reassuring. Helped by the dry touch aesthetic of raw stone, natural surfaces and organic shapes, Coastal Retreat can also create contemporary spathrooms that offer the tranquility of a relaxing spa in Bali.

Quiet Luxury

Serene and tasteful, Quiet Luxury provides an elegant escape from the daily grind through settings that meld understated luxury with traditional touches. Starting with a foundation of Soft Minimalism, Quiet Luxury then exquisitely layers on neutral colors, fabric touches and unique metal accents to maintain a quiet sophistication that is the hallmark of this trend. Refined and

elegant, yet comforting, the clean lines of the furniture, wall décor and well-placed hero details carry forward years of order, social graciousness and reliable protocol while infusing the space with a contemporary freshness that lifts our spirits, calms our nerves and makes it effortless to truly live in the moment with family, guests or even just our own thoughts. All design elements within a Quiet Luxury space are gentle and refined, radiating a luxury that is comfortably elegant.

Modern Rurality

Unplugging from the frantic pace of today’s overly digitized and chaotic world is totally possible when a space is enveloped by the warmth, purity and rusticity of Modern Rurality’s design components. A wooden backdrop is key as are roughhewn, simple, outdoorsy elements that wrap the space in a relaxed, country atmosphere. There is a rustic charm as well as a heritage-inspired authenticity to Modern Rurality. Infused with a color palette reflective of a rural winter’s day, a space following this trend’s lead will be filled with gorgeous moody colors such as deep navy, saturated moss green, a solemn maroon and various natural shades of brown. Although entrenched in a log cabin feel, the aesthetics of Modern Rurality can also take on a contemporary twist by incorporating some industrial elements such as glass, metal, brick and concrete - achieving a sleekness while staying true to the simplicity that is at the heart of this design.

Retro Revisited

While vibrantly drawing from the past, today’s design trend of Retro Revisited is all about expressing individuality. Everyone has a brand and Retro Revisited allows for a mixing and matching of the best design from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s to add life, color and individual expression to contemporary spaces. Cluttercore and hand-crafts are noted hallmarks of this trend as are thrifting and upcycling. Retro Revisited designs can be quirky, exuberant, creative. Disco Elemental, Mid-Century Modern, Maximalism and a touch of rebellion all make their mark in Retro Revisited spaces, sometimes as stand-alone features, other times as mixed epochs. Shiny lacquered wood furniture, striking geometries, psychedelic patterns and bold colors as well as muted crafts or make-andmend elements all find their niche in this trend that expresses personal freedom.

Biophilic Essence

Nature can be grounding, relaxing, cocooning, but it can also be magnificent and exuberant, full of unexpected surprises! Like a William Turner painting, nature’s elements can powerfully express themselves in ethereal majesty. The trend of Biophilic Essence is many times comprised of materials that have sprung forth from centuries of natural pressure such as marbles, crystals and precious gemstones. The color palette of this trend ranges from earthy browns, greens and grays to the majesty of jewel tones such as royal blue, brilliant yellow and fiery red - because nature gives us all of these colors. Silver, gold and other precious metals add natural artistry to a Biophilic Essence space. Additional signature effects of Biophilic Essence such as light, shadow and the juxtaposition of both in a space create a luminescent presence

that heightens the artistry of this design trend. The wonder of nature and the majesty of natural elements can create a feast for our eyes and an uplifting undercurrent for our emotions.

Keep Up with Kitchen Trends

If you’re considering a kitchen renovation, you’ve probably heard cautions about avoiding overly trendy designs that can diminish your home’s value and limit its appeal to future buyers. That’s sound advice, but many of this year’s trends are relatively neutral and have long-term staying power.

Kitchen upgrades are typically all about making practical updates to meet the needs of a family. The key to smart design is incorporating functional elements a family requires while striking a balance between style and trends that quickly become outdated. Before you dive into a kitchen project, consider these on-trend design recommendations from the experts at Wellborn Cabinet.

Add Health-Focused Features

As the hub of nutrition, it’s no surprise wellness design features are making their way into the kitchen. Some examples include appliances with air frying or steaming features, and double ovens are appearing in more homes, making home meals for the family easier to manage. Also look for technology that simplifies meal planning and managing your pantry inventory, as well as features that regulate food storage temperatures more precisely, including during power outages.

Shift Back to Wood Stains

Painted cabinets had their moment, but the latest designs are revealing a movement back toward warm wood grains, specifically oak. As trends continue to shift toward embracing natural elements, as well as exploring diverse color palettes, cabinet manufacturers are constantly innovating to meet the demands of consumers and design professionals alike.

To elevate contemporary cabinetry design, Wellborn Cabinet introduced captivating finishes that celebrate natural materials and textures. Inspired by the highly desired white oak at a more accessible price point, Boardwalk offers a breath of fresh air, allowing the unique oak wood grain to take center stage. The striking finish of Peppermill introduces a versatile darker brown hue with a subtle gray undertone, adding depth, dimension and sophistication. If you’re not quite ready to fully embrace natural wood tones, Alabaster may be a perfect alternative; this hue provides the timeless elegance of neutral white.

Dedicate Space for Beverages

Food prep may be a mainstay in functional kitchen design, but a growing number of homeowners are calling beverages a close second with the addition of built-in coffee bars or smoothie stations and specialized storage for beer and wine. Countertop or supplementary nugget ice makers are another example of trending kitchen accessories that reinforce a growing focus on beverages for all occasions.

Go for Contemporary Cabinetry

Your kitchen’s cabinet doors play an important role in defining your design aesthetic. Consider Wellborn’s wide variety of door styles, several of which have been redesigned to support the trend toward a simpler, smaller rail that’s in favor among designers and homeowners alike. With softer, more up-to-date appearances, they feature eased profiles to produce simple, straight, clean appearances. Options like Breckenridge and Ridgebrook offer updates to the modified shaker style with a clean, modern, less clunky aesthetic. Made of quality, solid wood, they

feature a reversed raised center panel to coordinate with a variety of design styles.

Embrace the Middle Ground

Kitchen islands are hardly a new design element, but an increasing number of homeowners are making them a major focus of their renovations. A kitchen trends study by Houzz revealed 42% of homeowners are opting for islands that are 7 feet long or more. That’s extra prep space, but also more room for casual seating or socializing while hosting. Also gaining popularity are double islands for double the workspace.

Skip Bland Backsplash Tile

The wall space between your countertops and upper cabinets may not amount to much, but it’s a sure place to make a style statement. This year’s designers are saying farewell to stark white subway tile backsplashes. Instead, nature- and earth-inspired tones are trending. You can still use subway tile but consider a variation from the traditional stacked design. Texture is another option for modernizing your backsplash; think handcrafted tiles or earthy textures but take care to avoid overly busy patterns.

Balance and Imperfection Japandi Style

(BPT) - Balance and harmony. These are two important principles of design to consider during the initial phases of conceptualizing a space. This is especially true in the kitchen, the heart and soul of a home, which must be both functional and visually inviting; a place where people can utilize the space effectively while nurturing purposeful and hospitable surroundings. Create a space of working beauty, while cultivating an environment of imperfection, to fully embody the Japanese design philosophy known as Wabi-Sabi.

Organic Curves and Textures

Form has a distinct impact on the feeling a home evokes. Enhance the home through Wabi-Sabi by incorporating pieces that exhibit shape and fluid movement, instead of highlighting perfectly precise lines and hard angles. Consider the alluring appeal of a curved archway that influences a softer atmosphere or feature a live-edge wood dining table to spotlight the beauty in natural imperfection.

Use organic forms and materials like rounded furniture, a neutral color palette and natural lighting to not only increase the aesthetic appeal of the kitchen, but also foster a sense of tranquility. Mix textures throughout the kitchen via linen curtains, a concrete backsplash, hand-woven rugs and personal touches of pottery to add both visual and physical texture, ultimately eliciting a feeling of quiet luxury. Every detail should be beautiful, and every beautiful object should serve the overall purpose of the space.

The Evolution of Japandi Style

The epitome of balanced harmony can be seen through Japandi style, which artfully merges Japanese and Scandinavian design philosophies. With fluid lines that speak to minimalist sensibilities and crafted touches that reflect an artisanal soul, the Kintsu® Kitchen Collection by Brizo perfectly embodies these tenets.

Drawn from “kintsukuroi,” the Japanese method of joining pieces of cracked pottery with gold, “Kintsu” represent the way that Japandi style merges two design philosophies. The Kintsu® Widespread Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet unites understated sensibility with an avant-garde spirit through the creative use of negative space in the knob handle. Combining this with the functionality and versatility of the new two-handle configuration, the faucet looks to Wabi-Sabi philosophy for abstract, conceptual geometries.

Essential Elements

When it comes to the backdrop of a space, being intentional with the color palette can lead to a cohesive look that highlights the beauty of various elements within the room. Take inspiration from Scandinavian design - cozy, bright and inviting aesthetics - which promotes intentionality when choosing colors, paired with natural light, to create a fresh take on neutrals. Grays can be replaced with warm browns and taupe, providing a natural background to plan around.

Incorporate metals such as chrome, steel and aluminum in the kitchen to add a gleaming finish that is instantly eye-catching and is sure to incite instant glamour. Choose an unexpected, but striking finish such as the Black Onyx finish in the Kintsu®

Kitchen Collection to create a distinctive and intentional focal point in the space.

When deciding which elements to include, consider the concept of mise en place. A place for everything and everything in its place. An organized kitchen is an efficient kitchen, and an efficient kitchen is a thing of beauty.

Through the fusion of Japandi style’s harmonious balance and the timeless elegance of Wabi-Sabi, our kitchens can become more than just places to cook; they can be sanctuaries where we find solace in our surroundings.
