The Easiest Do-It-Yourself Turkey I am not a cook and I loathe holiday cooking, but I’ve found the easiest recipe for a turkey that is tasty and super simple. I had to be sure to share it with everyone! Enjoy! • 1 (10-12 pound) whole turkey (cleaned) • 2 tbsp (tablespoons) seasoning salt • 2 tbsp dried minced onion • 2 tbsp dried parsley

• 3 tbsp chicken bouillon • 4 cups warm water • 6 tbsp butter

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Rinse and wash turkey. Discard the giblets or you can add these to pan if these are anyone’s favorites. 2. Place turkey in a Dutch oven or roasting pan. Separate the skin over the breast to make little pockets. Put 3 tablespoons of the butter on both sides between the skin and breast meat. This makes for very juicy breast meat. 3. Combine the water with the bouillon, and sprinkle in the parsley flakes and minced onion. Pour over the top of the turkey. Sprinkle seasoning salt over the turkey. 4. Cover with foil and bake in preheated oven for 4 to 5 hours. For the last 45 minutes or so, remove the foil so the turkey will brown nicely. Okay, so I know this may not be easy for all – but if all else fails, visit Gordon Conference & Catering on November 26th for a great meal! “Hooah” is not just a word; it is an esprit de corps and holds significant meaning to those in the military who use it. “Hooah’s” counterparts, “Hooyah” (Navy Special Forces) and “Oorah” (Marines) share a sense of motivation, unity, mission preparedness and confidence in success. Meanwhile, neither the Navy as a whole nor the Air Force appears to have a service call that represents them, although the Navy does use “Aye Aye.” Varying sources agree there is no definitive genesis for these calls, although there is quite a bit of speculation. “Hooyah” and “Oorah” are most commonly thought to derive from

hoorah, while “Hooah” appears to have far more numerous possible sources. From Mongolian’s war cry “Hurree” to the British infantry’s “Huzzah,” from the acronym HUA to General Cota mishearing “Who, us?” as “Hooah” in response to his “Lead the way, Rangers” on D-Day, “Hooah” has a variety of possible sources from which to claim its derivation. Although there are no set definitions, spellings or origins for “Hooah,” “Hooyah” and “Oorah,” they are a well-defined and significant part of military culture, their meaning well understood by the military who share their use.

Service Calls and Acronyms Aye Aye is used by the Navy to indicate an order has been received, is understood and, with the intent to act, will be carried out immediately. Hooah /’hu:a:/ referring to or meaning “anything and everything except no”. Used by the U.S. Army. Hooyah is the battle cry of the Naval Special programs such as SEAL, SWCC, Diver, SAR and EOD programs. It may be used in cadence, whispered or shouted. HUA is an acronym for “Heard, Understood, Acknowledged.” HUAW is an acronym for “Hurry Up And Wait.” Oorah, or Hoorah, is used as an expression of enthusiasm, battle cry or to respond to a verbal greeting by the U.S. Marines. WEST CDC The West Child Development Center hourly care program is located at Bldg. 18407 19th Street. The hours of operation are from 7:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday. The hourly care program is designed as a short-term only child care option for parents with children between 6 weeks and 5 years. Reservations can be made as early as 14 days in advance using WEBTRAC or by calling 706-791-0718. All patrons must be CYSS registered. REVIEW - School-Age Services

ZAC CAMP The SAC program participated in the ZAC camp. The ZAC camp is a Boys and Girls Club sponsored event that focuses on water safety. Our camp was from 23-26 June. During this four day camp the SAC children learned about the A,B,C & D’s of water safety. “A” stands for adult: it is always important to have an adult around when in or near water. “B” stands for barriers: children should pay attention to fences and gates around swimming areas. “C” stands for classes: all children should take swim classes before they ever try to swim. “D” stands for drains: avoid drains in pools at all costs because they can create a suction. It was successful and the kids had fun.

EFMP INFORMATION & AWARENESS FORUM October 15 The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) will have its 7th Annual Information and Awareness Forum 8:30am-3:30pm at the Family Outreach Center. It’s an antidote, not only for pre-holiday anxiety, but for the apathy of modern life and the deadness that settles in when we become so adjusted to looking at things in a certain way that we no longer see them at all. BMG MACHINE GUN “FUN SHOOT” November 7 at Range 16 Outdoor Recreation will host a “Machine Gun Shoot” from 9am-5pm. This activity is open to registered class III automatic firearms owners. Participants must pre-register with Fort Gordon Outdoor Recreation. Come out and see vintage WWI to modern .50 caliber machine guns and automatic firearms. Open to all ID cardholders and their guests for viewing.

Warrior Adventure Quest (WAQ) is an Army RESET training tool designed to introduce Soldiers to activities that serve as alternatives to aberrant behaviors often associated with accidents involving recently re-deployed Soldiers. WAQ combines existing MWR Outdoor Recreation high adventure activities (i.e. rock climbing, mountain biking, paintball, scuba, ropes courses, skiing, zip lines, white water rafting, and others) with a leader-led after action debriefing (L-LAAD) tool developed by Army Medical Department (AMEDD) center and school.

WHAT’S HAPPENING? - Fort Gordon Aquatics

LIFEGUARD CLASSES Lifeguard Classes (blended learning) meet for one week, Monday-Friday, from 4-7pm every day. The cost includes online course work, pocket mask, certification cards in lifeguarding, CPR/AED and first aid training from the American Red Cross. You must be 15 years of age and pass the pre-requisites. The cost is $200 per student.
