On this magnificent island, we offer our guests two boutique-hotels, noted for their special charm. The first of these hotels, the H10 Punta Negra, is located in a privileged setting, a small peninsula that juts out into the sea, allowing one to breathe the aroma of the sea and the pines anywhere in the hotel. Then there is the H10 Blue Mar, which is located on the well-known Camp de Mar beach. It has been totally remodeled in order to ensure it meets the chain’s quality standards. Das zweite Hotel, H10 Blue Mar, liegt auf dem bekannten Strand von Camp de Mar und wurde vollständig renoviert um den Qualitätsstandard der Kette zu garantieren. THE IMPACT OF THE TSUNAMI The drama of a Spanish family on the coast of Asia during the devastation caused by the tsunami (causing 220,000 victims) during the Christmas of 2004, has become the most commercially successful Spanish film in history. MOMIA DE HORNEDJITEF La cultura del hombre tiene su origen en la cuenca mediterránea. Allí se encuentra Egipto y de allí procede esta caja de momia de madera hallada en Tebas, cerca de Luxor. Fue fabricada hacia el año 240 a. C. para un sacerdote egipcio de alto rango llamado Hornedjitef. Como todos los egipcios, creía que sobreviviría a la muerte si su cuerpo se conservaba; por eso fue momificado y cubierto de resinas, amuletos y fetiches.

MUMMY OF HORNEDJITEF Human culture has its origins in the Mediterranean Basin. This is where Egypt is to be found and it is there where this wooden mummy’s box comes from. Found in Thebes, near Luxor, it was created in 240 B.C. for a high-ranking Egyptian priest called Hornedjitef. Like all Egyptians, he believed he would survive death if his body was preserved, which is why he was mummified and covered with resins, amulets and fetishes.

It is a gigantic statue; the upper part of its body alone is 2.5 meter high and weights 7 tons.

This bronze mug, manufactured in China in the year 1,000 B.C. and known as gui, was part of a set of recipients for ritual banquets offered to the dead. It was manufactured for a warrior of the Zhou dynasty, which overthrew the Shang dynasty, the previous governors of the country for 500 years. The Zhou were the first in formalizing the Chinese notion that heaven supports a just emperor.

THRONE OF WEAPONS This chair, made out of parts of firearms, is a monument to the victims of the civil war in Mozambique and a record of the crimes committed against the African continent. Created in 2001, the chair contains parts of Portuguese G3 rifles (Mozambique was a Portuguese colony), of Soviet AK47’s, of Polish and Czech rifles and a North Korean AKM, in memory of the country’s Marxist past.

Decorated with 2,000 turquoise tiles, this Aztec statuette dates from the 15th century. Turquoises were one of the favorite ornaments of Montezuma II, who would preside over the sacrifice of human beings wearing a diadem, a nasal plug and a loincloth made of this precious stone. This two-headed snake may have been worn during these rites.

Existe una Mallorca payesa y laboriosa, eminentemente agrícola, de hermosos pueblos industriosos e iglesias severas donde el viajero olvida que el mar se encuentra a la vuelta de la esquina. This activity is suitable for all kinds of people (children, older people, disabled persons, individuals with minor ailments…); it will all depend on the intensity of the walk and the chosen route. Fuera del verano, es recomendable coger tanto una gorra, que nos proteja del sol, como un gorrito, que en un momento dado pueda resguardarnos del frío. No olvides salir con agua de sobra (aunque vayas a una zona con fuentes), y beber antes de sentir sed; también debes llevar el móvil, GPS o mapas de la zona, repelente de insectos y protector solar. Ayudan mucho los bastones, sobre todo si tenemos algún problema con las rodillas. Aunque la caminata planifcada sea corta, hay un kit médico imprescindible: manta térmica, guantes, paquete de gasas, venda, blister de puntos de sutura, Betadine y algún analgésico. Y, por supuesto, consultar el parte meteorológico, así te ahorrarás incomodidades y te vestirás adecuadamente. Ya solo falta poner un paso delante del otro y decidirse a salir; el senderismo es la mejor forma de contactar con la naturaleza y, de paso, con la parte más sincera de nosotros mismos.

MALLORCA, PASO A PASO Mallorca tiene una variedad paisajística increíble. Algo que se hace aún más evidente cuando se practica senderismo. Las sierras de Tramuntana, al oeste, el Puig Major y Llevant, al este, son parajes difíciles de olvidar, igual que las marinas del sur o la llanura central de la isla. Además, gracias a su suave climatología el equipo que tienes que transportar (la ropa, sobre todo) será muy ligero, lo que reduce el esfuerzo requerido para recorrer grandes distancias, pues no necesitas cargar con muchas prendas.

Except during the summer season, it is advisable to take a hat or a cap for protection against the sun as well as a wooly hat to protect oneself from the cold. Never forget to take water with you (even if you are going to an area with wells or fountains) and to drink before you feel thirsty. You should also take a mobile phone, the GPS or maps of the area, insect repellent and sun cream. Walking sticks are very helpful, especially for those with knee problems. And just to be on the safe side, even if the route is short, you should take a first aid kit with you: a thermal blanket, gloves, a gauze pack, a bandage, a butterfly stitch blister pack, an antiseptic and some analgesics. And obviously, do not forget to read the weather forecast beforehand; by doing so, you will avoid inconveniences and dress more suitably. Now, all you have to do is take one step after another and start walking. Hiking is the best way to remain in contact with nature and, at the same time, with the most sincere part of ourselves.
