Living in nature is the underlying theme of the design. For this purpose 17 single housing blocks with different numbers of units were proposed and evenly spread over the site. The spaces in between these blocks are extensively covered with greenery. To allow uninterrupted vistas from the apartments as much as possible as onto the woods in the south west of the site the single blocks were allocated in an offset pattern. Additionally they manage to tie into the industrial area in the west and the houses of the residential area in the east by gradually turning the blocks from west to east.
Cars access to the area via a street that is running from south to north, and that connects with Speller Street at its southern end. From that main street 2 dead end roads take you two the individual blocks situated in the west and the east. In between these dead end roads a neighborhood square that is situated alongside the main street serves as the central meeting area for the people of the quarter and provides playgrounds for children.

The housing blocks are of different size and contain 3, 4, 6 or 7 apartment units. From west to east the sizes of the housing blocks diminish thereby constituting the transition from the largescale industrial buildings to the detached single-family houses of the adjacent residential area. Inside the housing blocks the apartment units are grouped around a central atrium that is commonly used by the residents as a communicative center.

It is up to the residents whether the atrium is totally or partially used as a common space or whether it is divided into private gardens. To support communication, the apartments were designed in such a way that each of them has windows facing the atrium. Despite its interconnection every apartment offers utmost privacy on the inside. And also the terraces that are found in each unit and that are oriented to the surrounding landscape are protected from views from the other apartments.

Musik Hall Marien church . Bochum, Germany / Mai 2012
Competition
The architectural principle on which the design is based is the equitable coexistence of old and new. The old is to remain wherever it does not cause functional limitations. However everywhere where it needs to be renewed anyway due to structural deficiencies the new will come through confidently without impeding the quality of the existing structure. Old and new do not merge but rather enter a dialogue as individual entities from which both will profit. On the outside the new elements form both a formal and material contrast to the brick architecture of the church, particularly the new church roof, which is clad with perforated aluminium sheeting that makes the building shine in the dark, aims to give the church something of a signal effect that is visible from the neighbouring entertainment district and thus establish the church as the anchor point for the area.

This philosophy manifests itself both in the external appearance of the converted church and in its interior.
The interior lives of the contrast between the glass chamber music room and the solid church walls. The room’s glazing takes away its volume. At the same time the interior of the church comes alive inside the room. The existing window openings on the church building also allow views of the direct vicinity of the church.

Conversion of an Exhibition Pavillon into a Conference Pavillon Bielefeld , Germany / Interior Design / Dec 2009 – Mai 2010
Construction documents
The pavilion was built in 1988 as an exhibition space to present windows and facade systems but it is no longer in use for a long time . It was therefore decided to use the pavilion for meeting rooms and expand it accordingly. With the installation of a second level, four meeting rooms could be created in the 7-meterhigh building: 3 small ones for 8 people on the ground floor and a large meeting room upstairs. Moreover, even had room for a small kitchen and a utility room. The meeting rooms are separated by a new compound partition which takes up the existing circular arc shape of the pavilion on the facade side of the foyer. By a curved furring on the opposite side of the foyer itself receives an elliptical plan. Between meeting rooms and furring a sweeping staircase connecting the two floors together runs. The glass facade of the pavilion were removed and replaced with ew glasses with thin-film modules. The modules are not only power generation, but also as sun protection of the rooms behind. As glare protection also still running vertically from textile interior shading devices were installed.

Sporthall Ubbedissen Ubbedissen, Germany / competition 1 Prize / Dec 2009 – Aug 2010
Competition
A new sports hall was to be constructed at the primary school in the district of Ubbedissen in Bielefeld because the old hall had not been consistent with modern requirements for a long time and also displayed great investment deficit. Besides the school the new hall was also intended for use by sports clubs so that it would enjoy better utilization. The new sports hall was to be built on fallow land near to the school that borders directly onto the existing sports fields. The new sports hall is in the form of a plain glass cube. Its entrance faces towards the primary school. It is emphasised by a projecting roof. Besides the foyer the ground floor houses the building services centre, equipment rooms and a clubroom. A staircase that dominates the foyer then leads onto the upper floor, which houses the changing rooms.

The surrounding walkway that separates the changing rooms from the hall also serves as a gallery. At the ends of the gallery two large windows provide a view of the rural surroundings. As the school was also to use the hall as an auditorium high quality materials such as wood and glass were also used on its interior.

Sporthall Ubbedissen Ubbedissen, Germany / competition 1 Prize / Jun 2009 – Apr 2010
Competition
The newly constructed sports hall was designed to accommodate the needs of Altenau School and of sports clubs in the municipality of Borchen. This resulted in complex requirements for layout organisation in the building, particularly with regard to its infrastructure and inner pathways. The new sports hall is conceived as a compact structure that reflects the alignment of the neighbouring school building and thus integrates into the overall structures at this location. The spatial divisions have been consciously kept simple. A two-story block is located to the south, just in front of the sports hall, which is 7 metres high and contains all other uses such as the foyer, youth room, gymnastics room, equipment room, changing facilities and installations rooms. Using the steeply sloping terrain this new building offers a simple, clear development concept that reacts to the varying flow of visitors. Spectators enter the building on the upper level without any barriers while sports players and schoolchildren enter the building through a second entrance on the lower level, opposite Altenau School, which is thus directly connected to the sports hall. The two entrances are connected outside the building by a ramp that runs parallel to it. Despite the simple concept, which was geared primarily to efficiency, the building was also designed with interior qualities. Galleries, air spaces and wall walls were also included for this purpose, enabling many different sight lines within the building. The carefully placed window openings not only ensure pleasant, glare-free lighting in the central utility areas but also provide views over the surrounding landscape and views onto the sporting events in the hall. The concrete/metal façade that was originally planned was not realised for cost reasons. In its place a plaster façade was designed that gives the monolithic structure a lively appearance with its slightly varying shades of grey in various areas and widths

Firestation Competition SchloĂ&#x; Holte, Germany / competition Appreciation / Dec 2008
Competition
The solitaire for the Fire and Rescue Station divides the site into two halves. The side that faces away from the residential developments houses staff cars and the practice courtyard while the other side is reserved only for fire engines. The aim of this separation is to prevent one side from impeding the other and allow for a smooth flow of traffic on the site, particularly during deployment. The arrangement of the functions within the building is designed with the aim of creating short routes and smooth processes in the event of deployment. Access to both usage areas is located in the immediate vicinity of the car parking spaces. The entrance to the fire brigade equipment store is at the eastern end of the building and the entrance to the rescue station is at the western end. From the foyer of the equipment store the crews have only a short distance to the changing rooms and then to the vehicles. The control station is also only a side corridor away from the foyer. .

The architectural design of the building aims to project the two storeys to the outside and thus undertake a horizontal division of the structure. This is achieved through the use of different materials: exposed concrete on the ground floor, larch wood on the upper level. Surrounding glass panels ensure good light inside the rooms.

IT Office building extension SchloĂ&#x; Holte, Germany / competition 2.Prize / Nov 2008
Competition
Itelligence, a mid-sized IT company, wished to expand its headquarters in Bielefeld. A plot adjacent to the existing company location was purchased for this purpose in order to house additional office areas as well as several meeting rooms that could be combined to create a large conference room. The new building was to be realised in several stages and be capable of further extensions in the future. Typologically the design was oriented towards the style of the existing company headquarters and carries over the principle of two side-by-side blocks. This was intended to emphasise the fact that both buildings belong to the same company. The dual blocks are located on a continuous ground floor element that connects both blocks. The ground floor houses all the semi-public functions in the form of the foyer and the meeting rooms. As the terrain is steeply sloping the ground floor was completely uncovered towards the slope. Thus it is surrounded on all four sides by a broad landscaped outside area that is also seen from inside of the ground floor. The necessary car parking spaces, on the other hand, are built into the slope in order to make use of the terrain and thus disappear from sight.

The extension to its Technology Centre allowed Schüco to carry out customer training and company events in its own facilities. Ten training rooms of different sizes and the corresponding foyer areas fill the new three-story building. It is supplemented by the Schüco Lounge, which replaces the canteen that was originally located in the basement of the neighbouring company headquarters and now offers space for 300 persons in the two top floors of the old building.

The new structure assimilates the dimensions of the old building in its height and extends these for approximately 35 metres parallel to Karolinenstreet to the north. Together with the company headquarters and Haus C it forms an outdoor space that creates the newly designed company entrance. People's Assembly Damascus, Syria / Jul 2007
Competition
The design aims to provide a structure of great significance that stands out from the morphological character in the immediate vicinity and in Damascus as a whole to emphasise the important of the People’s Assembly as a central pillar of the Syrian Arab Republic. The building is not, however, striving to make a radical break from architecture in the Syrian capital but rather aims to achieve a subtle and continual development process from the past and into the future with the transformation of Syria’s historical architectural elements into a contemporary architectural language.

The People’s Assembly building comprises two structures: a four-storey, elongated block and a 20-storey tower. The low structure integrates carefully with the existing urban surroundings by reflecting and reproducing the heights and alignments of the neighbouring buildings. It also forms an urban space together with the old parliament building, producing a distance to the new structure that underlines its importance. The tower, on the other hand, aims to provide a symbol that is easily recognisable from within the urban centre and from the neighbouring mountains.

Architecturally the building aims to integrate into its historical and urban context. The same natural stone is used for the low building as is in use on the existing parliament building. The tower, on the other hand, has been designed with a totally different faรงade. It comprises two layers. It has a glass skin on the inside and a closely woven metal structure as an outer shell to protect the glass faรงade from direct sunlight. Besides this purely functional purpose the arabesque structure of the metal skin also anchors the building in the traditional Arab culture. The more public functions of the parliamentary chamber, the committee room, the press department and the library are located in the four-storey building, which is intended to express its proximity to the people.

Hamm culture center Hamm, Germany / competition Appreciation/ Mar 2007
Competition
When the Horten department store was demolished the opportunity arose to redevelop the area around Hamm railway station. The educational and cultural centre played a central role as the starting point for the development. As an important attraction in the structure of the city it draws visitors to this location and has the potential to turn it into a lively urban space. The urban space quality is essential for the success of the architectural project. It is characterised by the careful combination of volume, spaces and pathways. From this point the design develops a solution that combines the railway station, forecourt, Bahnhofstrasse and the cultural and education centre into an interrelated whole. It is characterised by an exciting series of volumes and rooms of different proportions. In order to bring the area back to its typical historical proportions the uses are distributed across two structures. The northern structure completes the existing buildings to form a closed block. Its outer edges give Willy-Brand-Platz, to the east of the bus station, a clearly defined spatial framework. The southern structure occupies the remaining area as a unique centrepiece. Located directly opposite the railway station it marks the entrance into Hamm city centre.

A space is created between the two structures that is very important for the district as a whole. It joins the forecourt of the railway station with Bahnhofstrasse. The staging of this relationship between different paths is a central topic in the design. The entrances to the library, adult education centre and events hall are about half way along the path. The flow of visitors to these institutions should further enliven this area. In accordance with its urban significance for this district the education and cultural centre stands out from the existing buildings in the area through its confident architecture. A transparent glass faรงade gives it great radiance.

Office building extension Vloto, Germany / Aug 2005
Concept
It was necessary to extend the technical offices of this mid-sized Eastern Westphalian global market leader for laundry technology because of a large increase in employee numbers in this sector. There was no space available for a direct extension of the existing office space and it was also not possible to add a storey for structural reasons. The decision was therefore taken to build over the adjacent hall for the construction of transport systems. The design is for a single-storey structure that extends beyond the hall below it on both long sides. It was thus possible to distribute the loads into the ground via the v-shaped supports at the side of the hall without having to penetrate the hall. The new structure is organised as a triple loaded composition. Floor length windows on the long sides provide copious light for the offices on the sides. The interior rooms and corridors, on the other hand, are lit via two atria.

Urban Design
The aim of the project is to create a new modern oriental region with a flexible structure and variables permitted growth opportunity .To respect the traditional historical structure of the Old Damascus city, and to achieve building with the highest quality. These two concepts combining led me to the principle of the cell structure: 1. The topography of the city looks like a carpet with holes and is crossed by lanes and streets as it is arteries and veins. 2. The geometry of the Arabian ornaments is (always) inspired by nature and is supported by the symmetry.
