A Message from the President Team, In August we recognized Custom Protection Officer Jared Drahman as the 2018 G4S Security Officer of the Year. It was a pleasure to welcome Jared and his father, Michael Walters, to our Jupiter Headquarters for the Ceremony. A G4S employee since 2016 Jared showed courage and selflessness when he put his life in harm’s way to help others during a shooting at one of our banking customer sites. I always look forward to recognizing our annual G4S Security Officer of the Year and reading the numerous nominations we receive from across the region as it reminds me of the fantastic men and women that are part of G4S from coast to coast. The opportunity to meet and talk to our yearly winner is an honor of mine and something I appreciate every summer. Jared’s actions last fall were inspirational and made him more than deserving of being named this year’s G4S Security Officer of the Year. While we honored Jared here at HQ, I also want to congratulate and thank every G4S Security Officer who was nominated this year and is deserving of recognition. Each individual who was nominated showed their own forms of bravery, from helping a suicidal individual, to preventing a young child from being struck by a car. I’d also like to thank all of our G4S Security Officers standing posts for our clients across the region. We would not be who we are as a company if it weren’t for the work of our security officers and their dedication to our clients and our company. Thank you for all that you do. Please join me in congratulating CPO Jared Drahman on being named the 2018 G4S Security Officer of the Year. Sincerely, Drew Levine President, G4S Secure Solutions (USA)

JUPITER, Fla. — On September 6, 2018, a gunman opened fire in the lobby of a downtown building in Cincinnati, Ohio, killing three and wounding two others. In the midst of the shooting, on-duty G4S CPO Jared Drahman put his life on the line to protect patrons. As the gunman walked through the downtown building, Jared ushered patrons to safety, including pulling one man from the floor and into safety just as the gunman came around the corner. Jared remained with the individuals until emergency personnel arrived and secured the area. In recognition of Jared’s heroics, he was named the 2018 G4S Security Officer of the Year. In August, Jared was recognized during a ceremony at G4S headquarters in Florida. While G4S was proud to recognize Jared, the company is not the only one to thank him for his efforts. Last October, the Cincinnati Police awarded Jared with the Citizens Award of Bravery, noting that had it not been for Jared’s quick and brave actions, there very likely would have been additional victims during the incident.Additionally, the Cincinnati Bengals recognized Jared and fellow G4S CPO Ray Jackson during the September 13 game against the Baltimore Ravens. We are extremely proud of Jared for putting his life on the line to save others. Along with the other eight G4S CPOs on duty, Jared was recognized in an October 2018 Shout Out, recognizing the entire team for their hard work during the active shooter event. The actions of Jared and the team exemplify what it means to be a G4S Security Officer and we are happy to have them on board. Congratulations and thank you for your efforts!

G4S Safety Moments

August Safety Moments Back to School Safety

The start of another school year can evoke various emotions in both children and parents. While most kids think about who they will sit with at lunch and what they will wear on the first day of school, parents tend to think about the more pressing safety concerns. Some form of safety concern is present each time we leave the house, but there are specific concerns that come up when thinking of school. These concerns can include, transportation methods, playground safety and cell phone use.

Transportation in its various forms always presents some safety concerns. Whether the transportation method is walking, biking or driving to school, there are different things to keep in mind to create the safest trip possible. When walking, always walk on the sidewalk if it is an option, never dart out in front of a parked car, always look both ways when crossing the street and never walk while texting or talking on the phone. When biking, it is important to always wear a helmet, use hand signals when turning and watch for opening car doors and other hazards that may pop up. When driving, it is important to be aware of the more covert safety concerns that come with it. Never pass a bus loading or unloading children, do not block crosswalks and always yield to pedestrians. Another safety concern that often comes up when discussing school is playground safety. Although playgrounds have become safer, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that emergency departments still see 20,000 children ages 14 and younger for playground-related traumatic brain injury. This being said, it is important to take action in making playgrounds as safe as possible by making sure there is enough supervision present, making sure the equipment has adequate room around it for use, being aware of protruding hazards and making sure that all platforms have guardrails. Cell phones are apparent in our society today, and can act as both a positive and negative contribution to our daily lives. While providing access to immediate information and allowing us to contact whoever we need at the push of a button, they can also distract us from the world around us, heightening safety concerns. Since 2009, pedestrian fatalities have risen 46%. To combat these risks make sure to never cross the street when using your cell phone, do not walk with headphones in your ears and be very aware of your surroundings. These are just a few things to keep in mind as children head back to school. There are various ways that we can all increase safety in our lives, and it is up to us to seek out new ways we can decrease hazards. To get additional safety information, contact your local office or send an email to safety@usa.g4s.com.
