A Message from the President

Did You Know About?

Team,

incredible.

In late August and early September, G4S employees in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico were devastated by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. Some employees evacuated, only to come back and see their communities drastically changed. Others stayed, and experienced the storms first hand. The impact of all three storms is immeasurable, but the response from our teams across the region has been Hundreds of employees from around the country offered their assistance, as we flew, drove and bused employees into Houston, Florida and Puerto Rico. This included dedicated security officers making the drive from Houston to Florida to help out, just days after their own communities had been impacted. Meanwhile, wildfires devastated thousands of homes and communities in California. In response, more than 100 G4S Security Officers from California volunteered to help aid in relief efforts, some even arriving on site before the break of dawn on October 9. Moments like these show just how amazing our employees are. We are proud of every one of our G4S Security Officers for standing post during and after the storms, and we are humbled by those who left their own homes and families to help those in need. We are also honored to see the $18,000 in donations to our two GoFundMe pages and the numerous emergency supply shipments sent from individuals and offices around the country. To everyone who contributed, thank you. Additionally, G4S has committed $50,000 to the relief efforts to help our employees rebuild their lives. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has helped. And to those affected, know that we are here for you and we will continue to do everything we can to ensure that you get the help that you need. Sincerely,

Drew Levine

The G4S Safety Net Program was developed to support G4S Secure Solutions (USA) employees and their families when an employee who is a Guard or Reserve member is called to service in an active duty status and then deployed. Our goal is to ensure that deployed employees and their families continue to receive the full support of G4S while our employee is fulfilling their military commitment. To date, 95 employees have been deployed for long term military deployment, making them and their families eligible for the Safety Net program. Local offices support employee/service members and their families in a variety of ways, including: • • • •

Creating a volunteer resource pool to help family members of our employee/service members during times of emergency Remembering birthdays, work anniversaries, etc. with cards and letters for our employee/service members and their families Care packages for both the service member/employee and their family Providing further support and guidance within the G4S and military communities

To support the Safety Net Program, please contact your Human Resources Manager or General Manager. You may also contact the G4S Safety Net Coordinator, Michelle “Shelley” Gordon, at 561691-6780 or michelle.gordon@usa.g4s.com.

G4S SAFETY NET PROGRAM MISSION G4S is committed to working with our Guard and Reserve employees and families, making sure they have the tools to stay in touch with the company and resources from the day they learn there will be a deployment, through the deployment itself and after they return home. We understand that there are needs for the families of the service members deployed to protect our freedom and that it provides some comfort to our service members to know their families are taken care of while deployed. To this end, G4S has created the Safety Net Program comprised of field office, regional and corporate employee representatives who work together to support our Guard and Reserve members as well as their families who serve at home.

G4S Disaster Relief

Three Disasters, One Mission

Taking care of our people and our customers Over a span of more than 80 days, in the face of three major hurricanes, G4S deployed 900 G4S Security Officers and an Emergency Operations Center team with one mission: to provide Disaster and Emergency Services to our clients and provide aid to thousands of affected employees. With determination and compassion, G4S personnel from 88 local offices from Honolulu to Boston put their lives on hold and came to the aid of our clients and their colleagues in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico. Just as 2005 was marked by Katrina, 2017 was marked by flooding in the Gulf Coast when Hurricane Harvey intensified into a Category 4 hurricane before making landfall near Rockport, Texas on August 25. After Harvey sat over Houston, dropping 27 trillion gallons of water in five days, Florida and the Caribbean were hit by Hurricane Irma, the strongest Atlantic storm on record, maintaining top winds of 185 miles per hour for 37 straight hours. Combined, Harvey and Irma dealt $290 billion in damages to South Florida and Texas, making 2017 one of the most devastating and costliest hurricane seasons on record. But the devastation wouldn’t stop there. On September 18, Hurricane Maria intensified from a Category 1 to Category 5 before making landfall in Puerto Rico. As the strongest hurricane to hit the island since the Great Depression, Maria knocked out 95% of power on the island, crippled communications, left only one fully operational hospital, and limited basic supplies like drinking water to an island of 3.4 million residents. As the survivors in Houston, Florida and Puerto Rico worked to pick up the pieces after the devastation, they found G4S employees from across the country, standing beside them, ready to assist. When Harvey threatened Houston, G4S put all security officers in the region on standby notice to cover the 250 client locations requesting service. Using out-of-area personnel, G4S was able to provide coverage to some Houston posts in a matter of hours, with the first wave of security officers arriving in Houston on August 26th, in the midst of Harvey’s wrath. As the G4S Emergency Operations Center fielded client requests, the Human Resources team mobilized to take care of Houston-based employees who were affected by the storm. G4S set up a GoFundMe account, raising $13,000 while the company donated an additional $25,000 to relief efforts. Additionally, G4S set up an Amazon Wishlist that employees from across the country could use to order and send supplies to those affected in Houston. G4S employees displaced by the storm were set up in hotels and employees who visited the local office were offered emergency supplies including food, water, baby supplies and toiletries.

Two weeks after Harvey finished battering Houston, Hurricane Irma slammed into Florida on September 10 as a Category 4 hurricane, powering over the Florida Keys before moving up the Gulf Coast over the course of two days. In its wake, Irma left $18 billion in losses and thousands without power. Again, G4S responded. By September 6, G4S Security Officers from across the region began arriving in Florida, ready to assist more than 400 clients, filling some posts within two hours. These officers remained in the state from three days to more than a month, ensuring that client’s 9-1-1 systems were functioning properly and their people and property were secured. For the second time, G4S came to the aid of affected employees, starting a second GoFundMe and delivering food, water and emergency supplies. And, because some Florida-based employees were deployed to Houston

G4S Disaster Relief and unable to return home to prepare their homes for the storm, G4S put 60 families in a fortified hotel to ensure that they were safe. As the adage goes, catastrophes come in threes, and 26 days after Harvey and nine days after Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Maria blasted Puerto Rico as a Category 4 hurricane. G4S Security Officer William Nin-Rosario with Eulalia Martinez Luna., the mother of G4S Jacksonville security officer Rafael Rodriguez. NinRosario and the G4S team in Puerto Rico helped locate Luna after Rodriguez learned she had a heart attack during Hurricane Maria and could not be contacted.

The challenges were immense. For days, air traffic in and out of Puerto Rico was shut down, but that didn’t prevent G4S from providing aid to the 850 G4S Security Officers and staff on the island. Focused on getting aid into our employees and strategic clients, the company chartered two flights, sending two 4-ton shipments of food, water and President Drew supplies to the island, before sending a third 4-ton Levine (standing) shipment and weekly shipments going forward. In addition to emergency supplies, G4S sent 100 security officers to Puerto Rico to help secure 68 client locations and to find and locate affected and displaced employees. With damaged or impassable roads and limited gasoline and communications,

G4S personnel searched for and located missing employees and family members of U.S.-based employees. One of the searches included locating the sick mother of a new hire in Jacksonville. During his orientation class, he learned from his mother’s neighbor that she had suffered a heart attack during the hurricane. He was visibly concerned and the Jacksonville HR team member relayed his concerns to our team in Puerto Rico. With his mother’s name and last location they searched the hospital and then her home, where they found her safe and delivered drinking water. The next day, the Jacksonville team had the privilege of showing a photo of her (see photo at left) to our newest employee. This summer a team of G4S Security Officers, Emergency Operations personnel, support staff and leaders from across our organization worked together to mobilize and respond to three different and challenging disasters. Many who responded left their families for days, weeks and months; some are still deployed. With 900 deployed and 500 standby personnel, the logistics were challenging, but the team did not waver in their mission to protect our clients and care for our fellow employees.

PUERTO RICO — Neither downed powerlines or blocked roads prevented Team Cafitte from reaching those in need. Following Hurricane Maria, Anna Salgado and Team Cafitte (local G4S team members) supported clients in delivering drinking water and preparing groceries to be distributed throughout the island. At one point, to get to a town, they had to use a machete to clear a path while at another site they were able to deliver insulin to those in need just before flood waters made the roads impassable.

Wildfire Response

G4S security teams in California provide clients with immediate assistance

G4S vehicles and personnel on site in California. Following the wildfires throughout the state, G4S deployed more than 100 security officers to aid clients in the immediate aftermath

As the Southeast United States and Caribbean islands were battered with a trifecta of hurricanes, residents in California fought their own battle: wildfires. Beginning on October 8, more than 8,000 wildfires burned 1.138 million acres across 28 counties throughout the state, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. In total, the state is expecting the cost of losses to top $3 billion while at least 14,000 homes were destroyed or damaged.

to six week process - G4S offices from across the state began sending security teams to assist with the growing coverage needs.

The state worked endlessly to provide as much immediate relief as possible, evacuating affected counties and beginning efforts to restore power on October 9. At the same time, G4S immediately responded to clients in need, providing aroundthe-clock site coverage to clients beginning on October 9 at 2:00 a.m.

When G4S got the call in the early hours of October 9, they needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the security officers on site. In response, G4S’ corporate office shipped gloves, jackets, hats, cash and any other materials the local team needed to support the clients and the G4S Security Officers standing post.

G4S established a command center in Santa Rosa to serve as the base of operations, dispatching security teams and providing logistics to security officers. Facing the hurdle of California guard restrictions that restrict security officers from standing post unless they have a guard card from the state - a three

“Everything came together in two days. Everyone came together as a G4S family, it was really amazing,” said Tim Isenhart, G4S San Francisco General Manager. “G4S as a family supports each other. 3,000 miles away [corporate headquarters] recognized the need and came to our aid overnight.”

As of November 1, 135 G4S Security Officers had been deployed to more than 15 client locations in the affected areas. G4S Security Officers worked 24/7, standing post, conducting roving patrols, making sure that shut down roads were not entered and protecting client facilities that housed $100 million worth of equipment as well as protecting base camps for client employees.

hroughout Darren McDonough’s extensive military career, he recognized the value an education could provide him. He knew if he ever wanted to achieve his dream of being promoted beyond Major, he needed something more than a high school diploma. So, he hit the books. After five years of night school, McDonough got his associates degree from Florida International University (FIU) before getting accepted into the Green to Gold program, a two-year program for enlisted soldiers, to earn his bachelor’s degree. McDonough would later return to graduate school as part of the Army’s Advanced Civilian Schooling (ACS) to receive his master’s in history. McDonough returned to action with his master’s and a promotion, unknowingly on the brink of finalizing his military career. While serving as a Team Chief in Iraq (embedded alongside Iraqi soldiers who were motivated to make a difference in their country), McDonough and his team embarked on a 3 a.m. raid of a small town that was hiding weapons. Unaware that the opposition knew their location, the team was ambushed. During the attack, McDonough was shot in the chest. As he fell, an explosive device detonated nearby, sending shrapnel into his elbow, side and back and rupturing two vertebrae. The shot to his chest knocked McDonough away from the explosive’s deadly force. Sadly, his team of Iraqis were killed in the explosion. After recovering from his injuries, McDonough decided to retire from the military. During his service, McDonough had received two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, the Meritorious Service Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Airborne Wings, Air Assault Wings and the coveted U.S. Army Ranger Tab. When he landed in Miami, McDonough returned to FIU to teach Military Science, Military History and Early American

History to officers and Senior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), positions he held for three years. “It was an easy transition,” said McDonough. “I surrounded myself with cadets who wanted to be like what I was. It was a captive audience; everyone around me was very interested in learning. It wasn’t really work -- teaching came easy.” Looking for a new challenge, M c D o n o u g h joined a uniform services company, learning all aspects of the business from contracts to customer service. From there McDonough joined a security provider, where he remained for three years before joining G4S Darren McDonough (center) with the G4S team in Miami. Secure Solutions as General Manager of G4S’ Miami office. As his career in security progresses, McDonough remains focused on furthering his education and is just two years away from a doctorate in Strategic Security Studies, a level of education and expertise that he knows is vital. “I always tell everybody, if you have an opportunity to pursue education, do it,” McDonough said. “It’s the whole package when you’re trying to get hired or move up. I’ve seen it time and time again: military guys with amazing careers, but the question is what have you done since? Are you riding on your military background to complete the rest of your civilian career? If you stay stagnant it’s not a good thing. You have to be a change agent. Education shows that.”

Standing by the side of a busy intersection was a 3 year old boy, alone in his red Spiderman pajamas, trying to cross the street. Dancy, a former member of the US Army and a certified firefighter and EMT, stopped immediately, hopped out of the car and talked to the lost boy. Dancy called the police, but the boy was unable to say who he was or where he lived. Eventually police and security personnel were able to locate the boy’s parents and return him home.

SAN ANTONIO – G4S Site Supervisor Jeff Hendrick is no stranger to the security industry. With more than 20 years of experience as a security officer, site supervisor and a former member of Chicago Housing Authority Police Department’s Special Operations Unit, Hendrick knows a thing or two about security. In March, when G4S took over a contract in San Antonio, that experience was vital. Hendrick led his team through the transition, covering every post while ensuring the site remained secure. “His efforts ensured the smoothest operations transition possible,” said Joe Distefano, San Antonio Operations Manager. “He and his team did not miss a single beat, which directly contributed to his selection as the Security Officer of the Quarter for Q2.”
