A Message from the President Team, As we approach summer, I wanted to take a moment to cover two things. The first is safety. With all the challenges facing you on a daily basis — from walking, driving, climbing, enforcement actions and the list goes on, I ask that you remain vigilant with regard to your personal safety. Safety is one of our core values as an organization but that value must not be a value that resides only on our website. Safety must be in your direct line of sight in everything you do, every step you take and every mile you drive. I am asking that you consider this ask and remind yourself on an hourly basis that we want you to be safe. Every site we operate should have our “Safety Starts with Me” campaign materials at your worksite. Please refer to these documents and use them for both guidance and inspiration. Please be safe in everything you do for yourself, your family and G4S! The second thing I wanted to say was a simple "thank you." Your jobs, at every level, are challenging. Our management teams, project management teams and, most importantly, our uniformed personnel handle more action, challenges, people and process in one week than many do in one year. And you all do it with style and excellence. I continue to see our customer scores improve and positive comments from our customer surveys. I remain steadfast in my claims that we are a different company and our culture is simply different than our competitors in a good way. Danny joined G4S in 1993, working his way up through the company before being named Regional Vice President of the Southern Region in 2004. In 2009, Danny was again promoted to the role of Senior Vice President of Operations, a position he held until 2011. Danny has been the COO for G4S Secure Solutions (USA) since 2011. Danny holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Memphis.

Traveling at 55 mph, that’s enough time to travel the length of a football field. • Texting while driving causes a 400% increase in time spent with eyes off the road. • Of all cell phone related tasks, texting is by far the most dangerous activity. • 94% of drivers support a ban on texting while driving. • 74% of drivers support a ban on hand-held cell phone use. • 11 teens die every day as a result of texting while driving, equal to 4,015 per year.* *To put the last statistic into perspective, according to the US Government, 3,432 Americans were killed in terrorist attacks between 1975 and 2015. CHARLOTTE, N.C. — When a patron of a local restaurant began to use profanity, G4S Special Police Officer (SPO) Matthew Ford responded and asked him to leave, but the man refused and continued to swear at SPO Ford. SPO Ford escorted the man from the property, but as they got outside, the man pulled a knife and attempted to strike SPO Ford.

SPO Steven Fike and CPO Peyton Lowery arrived on site to assist. After multiple requests, the man lowered his knife, at which point CPO Terah McDowell began to talk to him. When the man finally dropped the knife, CPO McDowell recovered it while the other officers took the man into custody.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — While Special Detail Officer Dexter Vann was patrolling at Providence Health Services, he saw a man sleeping on the ground. When he approached, he saw that the man was soaked from the rain and attempted to speak to him. Vann noticed the man was very pale and in need of medical attention, and potentially suffering from hypothermia. Vann assisted the man across the campus and to the Emergency Department, where he was able to get the care he needed.

HAWAII — G4S Security Officers Ed Rivera and Kaj Lyons were named Officer of the Quarter for Q4 for 2017 and Q1, respectively, for their work with Hawaiian Airlines. According to the client, Rivera “managed an entire new operation and turned what could have been chaotic into a seamlessly smooth operation. When the situation dictated, (he) filled in, during early morning and nighttime hours, and even braved the hot sun, guarding a gate, all for the safety and security of our facilities.” For Lyons, the client said the following: “(He has) become the face of HA, as the first individual most employees and all guests have the pleasure of encountering. (His) cheerful, yet gentlemanly professionalism, is well evident in the amount of praise (he) garners daily.”

ATLANTA, Ga. — While covering third shift at an Atlanta client facility, G4S Supervisor Keenan Jones received information that there was an attempted theft at the location. Jones informed the third shift team of the individuals and made sure the team was ready. When the suspicious individuals arrived on site, Jones made sure the site was locked down. USO Breauna Swain monitored the cameras and tracked the location of the individuals, relaying the information to Supervisor Jones and local PD. Meanwhile, USO Ed Townsend monitored another lot and helped to coordinate the location of the suspects.Through their diligence, the individuals did not steal or damage any client property.

G4S Secure Solutions (USA) celebrated National Volunteer Month and National Volunteer Week from April 15-21 by continuing their annual partnership with Habitat for Humanity in Palm Beach County. The work began with a groundbreaking on March 29 on the company’s fifth Habitat for Humanity home build and will continue through the summer. This year’s home is being built for Cartiana Auguste, a recent graduate of Everglades University and manager at Walgreen’s who is making plans to pursue her master’s in Human Resources. G4S began its involvement with Habitat for Humanity in Palm Beach County in 2011 when 50 G4S volunteers painted the Habitat Thrift Store in Jupiter, FL. Since then, nearly 200 G4S employees have volunteered more than 1,000 hours to local families building their futures in Palm Beach County. National Distracted Driving Month
Many distractions exist while you’re on the road, but cell phones are at the top because so many drivers use them for long durations every single day.You’ve probably seen a driver distracted by a cell phone, swerving on the road or potentially drifting across lanes. While this can certainly be a scary sight to see, the truth of the matter is that it is not a unique issue. Currently, research has found that motor vehicle accidents are up 6% since 2015 while 40,000 people were killed on U.S. roads last year alone, with an estimated 3,000 deaths as a result of distracted driving. It is reported that 70% of drivers say that they use a cell phone despite knowing the risk it creates, and 65% feel that they are at risk because another driver is distracted by technology. Despite this, only 25% of people said that their own use of technology is putting others at risk. And while people feel that handsfree devices or voice control features are safer, drivers who use hand-held and hands-free phones only see about 50% of the driving environment, a phenomenon known as “inattention blindness,” which can lead to drivers missing important items such as stop signs, pedestrians, other cars or other hazards. As part of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, G4S’ Safety Team is bringing you important information regarding distracted driving.
What you can do
Put the phone away While on the road, put your phone on airplane or silent mode and put it out of reach. If you do have to use your phone, find a safe place to pull over and make a phone call or text. Cell phone blocking apps or devices These basic apps can prohibit calls or texts while a vehicle is in motion. Users can input a list of numbers that are reachable when the app is in use. G4S In The News How to Make a GREEN Impression April 6, 2018 G4S USA and G4S Canada were recently featured by Security Distributing and Marketing (SDM) in a profile about reducing the company’s carbon footprint. G4S Regional Communications Manager, John Burke, was quoted in the piece, talking about how the company has reduced its carbon footprint since 2015. G4S Headquarters in Jupiter, Fla. has earned an EPA Energy Star rating for more than two years. In order to do so, a building must meet strict energy performance standards set by EPA and have information verified by a third-party auditor annually. A second piece that has helped G4S reduce its carbon footprint is a mandate for less travel and the company’s usage of video and audio conferencing. In Canada, G4S enters into agreements with the local communities that maintains that the company will not disturb the natural land. “We have to be very careful about installing things and about our footprint in those regions to respect their land use and preserve the environment,” said Katie McLeod,Vice President of Marketing with G4S.
New Order in Court April 17, 2018 G4S Secure Solutions (USA) Inc. was featured in a recent article in the North Platte Telegraph in North Platte, Neb. The article speaks about G4S taking over the Lincoln County Courthouse in June, and the upcoming changes to the security and access to the building. G4S Security Officers will be on post beginning on June 4, as well as the introduction of X-ray machines and walk-through scanners. Along with increased security, the courthouse will be locking three entrance points to the building. The new X-ray machines, which will be installed in May, are capable of processing 500 people per hour, with a goal of eliminating lines entering the building.

Additional upgrades will feature locks and cameras, as well as small storage units that are capable of being locked. G4S Security Officers will be in place at the main entrance and will prohibit items such as pocket knives and firearms from entering the building.
