Fun was had by all at the annual Spotlight Awards in Atlanta. Associates were greeted on their way into the rustic venue, Terminal West. Everyone dressed to impress in their best 70’s attire and enjoyed mingling before lunch was served. The associates feasted on some delicious street tacos and took their seats surrounding the stage, in anticipation for the ceremony to begin. Vinnie & Foxy Brown, aka Greg Gasior & Jean Anton, were quite the dynamic duo and kept the audience engaged and excited for each award to follow! The 70’s halftime trivia show really had associates scratching their heads, but it was all entertaining to watch. It is always a wonderful occasion to come together and celebrate the many achievements of our associates and Gables as a company! #GablesProud

What a groovy time Austin had on February 16th at the 2017 Spotlight Awards. Everyone was in their best digs and ready to get down to some funky tunes, good food, and celebrate all of our accomplishments from 2016. The ceremony was held at Max’s Wine Dive in beautiful downtown Austin, Texas. The menu included Max’s famous meatloaf, grilled chicken, delicious vegetables, cupcakes, and cookies! After lunch, our hosts KP and Amanda gathered at the podium to begin the ceremony where they were surprisingly attacked on stage by JAWS. The young Richard Simmons was just too tempting for JAWS to pass up! He captured the workout guru with his mighty teeth, but wait… he managed to escape using classic workout techniques, hooray!! Halfway through the ceremony, we took a break and whipped out the BINGO cards! It was an intense time as the competitive Austinites wanted to win those cash prizes. The day continued as associates laughed and cried as their fellow teammates were recognized for all their hard work. Congratulations again to everyone for all your accomplishments and a special thank you to everyone involved from the planners to presenters, thank you!

Associates from California, Arizona, Colorado and Washington State gathered to celebrate the 2017 Spotlight Awards at the world famous Balboa Park in San Diego. The beautiful venue is a hundred years old and offered fantastic views of the park. The costumes were super creative and the exciting energy in the room was contagious. Armando Vieira and Will Gosnell got the crowd going and the loud cheers had people from other events wanting to join in on the fun! California had a groovy time reminiscing on old times, and keeping the 70’s music alive! Everyone enjoyed a delicious Latin Flavors menu, while appreciating the many associates who were recognized for their hard work and achievements.

With the 70’s theme this year, everyone immediately walked into a time warp upon entering our venue at Gilley’s Dallas for the Dallas Spotlight awards. Guests were immediately encouraged to strike a pose at our photo op area where there were fun props to enhance the theme. After all the mingling, admiring each other’s outfits and picture taking, everyone got to enjoy a Texas size feast of a BBQ buffet and peach cobbler. Donna Summers and Tiffany Bakewell were our lovely hostesses but it was Kevin “KP” Patterson that stole the show when he came up on stage to do an impromptu opening act – impersonating the iconic Richard Simmons! He got the crowd excited and ready for the show to begin! To keep the crowd engaged throughout the awards presentation, we had each presenter call out raffle ticket numbers where winners would come to the stage and pick up their cash prize. Our half time show was a 3 part game of bingo, where we had big money to give out to our winners! All in all, Spotlight this year was a success, where deserving winners received awards and everyone was shown how much they were truly valued as Gables’ associates.

The Northeast Region had a groovy good time at our Spotlight awards this year! We returned to the Fillmore Silver Spring for kicking tunes, excellent eats, and to honor and award some very cool cats. Everyone from the Village People to the Scooby Doo Crew didn’t miss this far-out event! Vinnie (Greg Gasior) and Disco Debbie (Mary Hollands) were our hilarious hosts; and we even had a guest visit from Major Hot Lips Houlihan (Sue Ansel) who presented the STAR Community of the year: Waverly Village! The ever-growing Boston teams joined us in their funky boogie best, and took home the ACM AND CM of the year awards! With the disco ball flashing overhead, the lava lamps on the table, and the out-of-this-world costumes and wigs, we had 1970’s style and everyone left with a funkadelic smile

Florida’s “2017” 1970’s Spotlight Awards were held at “The Venue” in Wilton Park. The Venue was set up to reflect a disco club. The inside of the venue was the perfect setting for a party. This was Florida’s first time using a different venue in many years. Florida’s associates were asked to stop at the registration table to receive their VIP PASS. Karen Overway created a “VIP PASS” badge for every associate, to get into the “club” and mingle with everyone! This made it easier for people to talk to others as they could look at the person’s badge and see their picture and name. After the associates received their badge they were directed into the photo “Lounge” to take group and individual photos, while awaiting the dining room to open for a sit down served luncheon. They were treated as Kings and Queens. Alison Versailles and Amanda James were selected as the hosts, however in a big twist Vinnie (Greg Gasior) and Foxy Brown (Jean Anton) took the stage. They were hilarious and kept the crowd laughing and engaged. Our halftime event was 1970’s Trivia, which Greg Gasior hosted, he made it so fun, the associates loved it. As the associates were leaving, they all were expressing how they had a blast and loved this year’s Spotlight event. A great time was had by all in Florida!

Houston’s 2017 Spotlight Awards were held at “The Whitehall” located in the heart of downtown Houston. The 1970’s disco themed banquet room was sparkling for the event! On the way into the Disco Hall, the red carpet was laid out for all attendees which directed them to the Step and Repeat for photos. Everyone was in their best Disco/Flower Child attire. Upon entering the banquet room, they were greeted by disco balls at every table and Rubix’s cubes and Slinkies as take-aways. The event started with a slideshow featuring humorous pictures associates sent in for whatever created stress in their lives for 2016. Houston was confronted with a difficult year but WE SURVIVED! As the slideshow was playing none other than our Connie Teer and Karla Fulker belted out the words “I Will Survive” as the song echoed through the speakers. They were joined by Andrea Sartin, David Wright, and Penny Sprang and others that danced their way to the stage. Brave Houston associates danced up on the stage for the entire show and the crowd picked the winners at the end. The sit down 4 course meal was a hit and made everything sparkle just a bit more. Our fearless hosts, Rob Rector and Josh Landry, took the stage and kept everything lively through the whole show – it was fantastic. Penny Sprang and Connie Teer hosted Bingo during the halftime show. Snapchat was an added bonus that kept everything festive! Seeing Houston’s winners take to the stage to receive their award was the highlight of the event and truly embraced the Gables Spirit. #GablesProud!

The entire team at Michael at Presidio! The apartments are beautiful with lots of storage space, high ceiling, upgraded appliances and awesome amenities. That’s not why I love living here. I love it because the team that works here is the kindest, most thoughtful people ever! I fell the day I moved in and was really hurt. I couldn’t get to the car so my daughter could take me to the ER. Lance, not only helped me, he carried me to my car! The team has called to check on me several times and also brought me a care package with soup, crackers, juice bottles, a candle, and a bouquet of flowers. Where else can you live and get this kind of care? NOWHERE! Thank you to Lance, Dina, Corey, Elysia, Anna and everyone at The Michael at Presidio for taking such great care of me and making me feel so welcome! to help! Resident at The Michael at Presidio

Richard Souther- Gables Mill Richard Souther with Gables Mill went above and beyond to help GCA for three straight weeks as we battled with Comcast to get the cable wiring repaired in our resident’s apartment home at Mill. One failed Comcast appointment after another, Richard was there to help in any way that he could and even gave me his personal cell phone number so we could communicate before normal office hours. Finally, on February 27th, Comcast sent a technician to the apartment who was capable of resolving the wiring issue, but our guest had an emergency and was not home to wait with Comcast. I called Richard at 8am and he jumped to our rescue by escorting Comcast into the apartment just moments later. Without his help that day, we would have spent another week begging Comcast to fix the problem. I really cannot thank him enough for his professionalism, understanding and willingness to help!
