Gabriel Alvarez was born in
Mexico City in 1990. Hoping to pursue a degree that combined physics, history and drafting, he began his Architecture studies in 2009 at Universidad Iberoamericana, Ciudad de México (IBERO). He did a semester abroad at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (Sci-Arc) in Los Angeles and upon his return, received his diploma from, thesis tutor, architect Benjamin Romano. As a fifth year student, he started working at the Mexico City-based firm Slot Studio, where he collaborated alongside Juan Vidals and Moritz Melchert, winning his first competition, The Corona Beer Museum. In 2015, Alvarez moved to San Francisco to participate in an internship program at the company SOM, Skidmore, Owings and Merril. Later he was hired by the firm BAR Architects and then WRNS Studio, where he worked in the mixed-use multifamily and office sectors, focusing on the design and construction of innovative building typologies and facade systems. Alvarez has served as a guest critic at the California College of the Arts (CCA), his work has been displayed both in the US and Mexico and has won several awards, including Best Thesis at the CEMEX Catedra Blanca Studio.
