Hi, I’m Gabriele Milanese and here you can find a selection of my works. I have always dream to work on exhibition and retail projects, giving space of my interests on product and graphic design, arts and photography. What i like of design is the opportunity it gives me to research in a lot of different fields concerning some of my passion as literature and mythology in any cases I always try to put attention on humans and their habits, conceiving design not just as a question of shapes but more as an anthropological and sociological analysis of contemporaneity.

Primitiva: forme di adattamento e nuove pratiche del fare —
Politecnico di Milano, master’s degree in Interior Design, thesis; supervisor: Franco Origoni & co-supervisor: Francesca Balena Arista, Done in April 2019.
— —
Primitiva: forme di adattamento e nuove pratiche del fare is a curatorship and exhibition design project aiming to tell an on-going historic evolution and to bring light on the strategy and practice that humans are using to prepare themselves to the arrival of what it seems to be a new primitive era.
PRIMITIVA — Politecnico di Milano, master's in Interior Design — thesis, done April 2019
Nowadays, everything is living a period of change affecting work, institutions, communities, religious and political ideologies. We live within a widespread and complex crisis that produces mistrust into the future and uncertainty in the present. This situation surely offers us great opportunities, but at the same time it shows us how our practices and tools are obsolete and not ready to face this new condition. In spite of all these changes, humans keep surviving on the planet thanks to their natural adaptability. Humans understand the need to implement a constant work on a personal and social rediscovery in order to be the creator of a renewal era. As a primitive of this new era they generate a constant research about their own primordial and natural forces and about archetype shapes. They implement a revision of the anthropological aspects that bring to the production of new human practices and a new project culture: from Archizoom’s theoretical projects to favelas, from neo-primitive design to DIY, form participatory architecture to open design. In my curatorship I applied the Open Source’s Source’s concepts. concepts Thus I left both my classmates and professional in this field the opportunity to intervene on my research proposing one or more projects in order to improve my curatorship. The professionals involved in this project are Andrea Branzi, Aldo Colonetti, Francesco Faccin e Giuseppe Arezzi.

34 dialogs for 60 artworks (21 of them have been suggested in order to create an Open Source's Curatorship).
When I started this curatorship I had the broadest possible approach trying to investigate several fields such as urbanism, architecture, design but also anthropology and sociology. The curatorship's layout in space does not follow a specific order but proceeds by "dialogues" between different kind of artworks with a common element. In this way, it is possible to open new scenarios in order to represent the complexity of the topic and to generate more questions than answers. The viewer has the task of investigating

The second dialogue talk about liquefaction linking La Moglie di Lot (1978) by Superstudio and All that is solid melts (2016) by Superflex. In the first case the focus is on the relationship between symbolism and function in architecture melting five salt sculptures of historical buildings. In the second case the focus is on life's impounds through a melting black cube covered by bitumen.

The project is an hamburger bar restaurant with kitchen. The bar has to stay at the entrance of the space and works as an invitation for the clients. My personal input in the project went from the concept phase to the design of the space.

Project for Aesop shop in Brussels. I had the opportunity to work on this project during my internship at Bernard Dubois Architects in Brussels. The aim of the project was to create a space linked whit the city of Brussels. For this reason we decide to use yellow bricks, a material with which every Belgian is familiar too. My personal input in the project went from the concept phase to the design of the space and choose of materials.
The yellow bricks are used to define both vertical and horizontal surfaces. The space is designed using the brick as a module.

Dèi Compassi d'Oro — Politecnico di Milano, Interior Design—Final Synthesis Lab, 2018
In every era, cultures and people created their own mythology and their own myths which became symbols and examples to follow for everybody. Speaking about design as a community or as a culture, we can distinguish in it a mythology where designer and objects represent myths, symbols and heroes. Inside this culture, the Compasso D’Oro award represent the highest point, a design Olympus to whom everybody aspire. Dèi Compassi D’Oro tells the story of one of the most important awards in the design field through an osmosis with classic mythology. The exhibition is divided in three parts that starts with Olympus, in which twelve divinity are compared to many important design personality in a fantastical and imaginative vision of the award. Then we find the Agorà, the place where social dynamics and debates are developed and a place of criticism towards the design world. At the end there is the Naòs, where in a divine atmosphere detached from reality, the “future divinity” who marked the last twenty year of the award are celebrated.

Monumento ai caduti represents the end of a path, a rise and a challenge to the death lost trying to feel more alive. Eight palaces that finish simultaneously to a distant point which is lost in an unknown gap.
Monumento ai caduti — Politecnico di Milano, Interior Design—Interior Design Lab, 2017
At the end there is the complete nothing less, the total void that strays in the dark. Thanks to prospective techniques, it was created a realistic 1:10 scale maquette where the height of this urban vortex is emphasised by enhancing the sense of fall. A monument visible only from the top that arouses a deep feeling of dizziness and anxiety in the observer. The real living space is on the top of the maquette because the roofs can be felt as a tragedy place but also as a comfort place for those who want to commemorate their loss. An atypical cemetery completely free of any kind of formalism is created through spontaneous gestures.
The maquette's scale is 1.10 but it changes in order to create a bigger perspective. The bottom of the "hole" is black painted to emphasize the void feeling.
This almost abandoned place has a new life thanks to death and it is given to living people as a protected environment not to forget who has found peace.

— — Memorie Concept Store is a space dedicated to the world of perfumes. The concept aim to the capability of the smell to penetrate inside minds and become a memory.
Memorie Concept Store — Politecnico di Milano, Interior Design—Bachelor thesis, 2016
The environment is designed around perfumes. It takes inspiration from them and enhancing their features. It is all about the lightness of the space and the attempt to make our senses useless except for the smell which has to be the real protagonist in the buying experience. The project is made by fours different areas. The first area is the experiential zone: without any commercial aim, it only wishes to intrigue and trill the client. Following there is the brand Memorie sales zone, where just Memorie perfumes are exhibited. Linked to the sales area there is an artistic perfumery, which works as a traditional shop with more than 400 different perfumes made by artistic perfumery brands. At the end there is the research zone, where it’s possible for clients to book an appointment in order to look for their perfect extract.
Memorie perfume's bottle is made with Noce nazionale wood, brass and surlyn for transparent surfaces.
On this page: Memorie perfume's bottle. The design follows the same concept that inspired the store. It aims to rich a sense of lightness and suspension.
The same shape of the bottle has been used as exhibitor in the Brand Memorie Sale Zone (see page 48 for the view).

Contest project “Design me a song”, for Spazio Casa Teatro. Whit Lorenzo Melis and Nicolò Piredda. Done in March 2016.

The goal of “Design me a song” was to create a furniture taking a song as inspiration. Starting from Places by Shlohmo, Panorama try to emphasise the contrasts between the regularity of the time and the random glitch sounds, between the net sounds of electronic music and the sinuosity of R&B voices. The result is a world where every single space created is a different place that changes in relation to its content.
Panorama — Contest project "Design me a song", for Spazio Casa Teatro — 2016
Panorama is made in Iron, brass and moleskine plane. The moleskine color is customizable.
Panorama is a module which assembled it creates a lightweight home-based library in which the regularity of the iron structure contrasts the sinus shapes of the moleskine planes. The minimum elements are three without a maximum number. It can be adjustable in height by fitting between floor and ceiling thanks to the pressure given by the screw mechanism. The modules types are two: one for the beginning and the end of the library, and another one is the central and cumulative element.

They have a different trunk system that blocks the rotating motion of the horizontal branches and adjust the length of the fabric, hooked through the screws. The branches are fixed and able to block the fabric in order to release any space from the forms exerted by the others. It can be also customized by changing the colour of the fabric.
