The skyrocketing housing prices has left many Chinese young people live as an 'ant tribe'. Many elite college graduates can only choose to live in dilapidated villages because of their inability to pay high housing prices and rents. I unitized the room based on the ' CL structure system'. In the wall to reserve a circular hole to meet the vertical structure and equipment to connect to different terrain and functions, and the location of the strcutre of the hole by way of steel columns and partial grouting reinforcement, the rest hole is based on the different needs of households custom installation plug-ins. Not only give the residents more choice and improve the flexibility of units, but also reduce transportation costs and mold manufacturing resource consumption and environmental pollution.

How to change the inflexible apartment layout and to match the diverse needs of young people's living?

Choose one Site Choosing a typical urban village in Haidian District of Beijing as an experimental location, there are many startup spaces and unversity campuses nearby, and the size of our prefabricated concrete units is determined according to the size of the homestead.

02 Ply Tenon

How to revitalize the traditional wooden structure and make craftmen great again?

A salvo of tourists and entrepreneur fled the downtown, heading for 'Poetically dwelling' in the suburb areas. Meanwhile, the traditional method of constructing the houses of wooden frame, on the verge of extinction, now regains an opportunity of revitalization for that traditional buildings are ideal environmentally friendly structures attribute to excellent thermal performance. However, the carpentary ways cannot satisfy the need of mass construction and short terms in Chinese vernacular areas. So to optimize traditional wooden structure, I designed prefabricated wooden structural system, based on mechanical properties of 60 mm modular plywood. I redesigned the traditional glue-less wood joints by closely testing load-bearing capacity, in which way joints could be installed easily by manual work. It is the very point to sublate the indigenous structure systems, to enrich the monotous mainstream market.

Hancheng, a town historically traced back 2000 years ago, faced up with periodically decline under nationwide urbanization, are gradually reviving from the exploitation of official and squire eager for instant success. Nowadays, the government commences to regulate the pace of economic development and conserve the endangered heritage with realizing their tourism value. According to investigation on local residents, they prefer to enjoy a slower pace life if tourism could actually benefit them. It is the very point to revive the town. Here comes the carnival combining the modern vitality with classic aesthetics. The town is the perfect proving ground for seeking another alternative choice for dormino structure system that homogenizes a barrage of downtowns and suburbs.

Typology: houses along the street

Ply wood: make craftmen great again

The houses along the street are always organized as parts of quadrangles. There are seperated rooms and a series of courtyards consisting of the introverted space, especially their roof inclined towards the inner.

The perserved houses constructed by carpenter has proved their value. Only if a normalized platform offered would they promote the traditional technique. The lengthy period of crafting building components is surly shortened by the standardized elements out of ply wood. Now these 600 mm thick plywood are their magic props.

He has retired from his beloved career since that his son built the bungalow hiring the other workers. Now he again gains reputation for local tea ceremony, but his superb skills exhibited by the abandoned house is ignored. This teahouse offers him a easy start.

03 Stook aloft

How to apply the symbolic value of countryside to obtain more attention for it?

With the development of rapid urbanization, population loss of vernacular areas is seriously increasing. The workfoce loss in most countryside gradually sharpens the contradiction between the vulnerable group and the enforcement, even caused by thatched heap. Since nearly each child in village prefer to climb the thatched heap than read in class, the stook is easily associated with the signal of harvest and joy, a credit to nostalgia. The original behaving modes like climbing strongly predispose adults to meditate the recent situation of family members and hometown. Therefore a gigantic stook exposed to every fellow certainly stimulate the desire for reunion with family and hometown. Now the stook, a symbol reminding people of returning, is the key to arousing the sympathy between native people and people working out. According to the actual speciality of Shayang county--rice wine, the interior function combines public activities with rice wine workshop. Additionally, the image that children are climbing the golden stook while their custodians are working in the infinite wheat field, itself is the valuable resource, especially for tourism.

Field view in fall Site Plan

Time for change! Inside and outside the village are old people and children, cultivating, idling, waiting for reunion of family members. Thus Nostalgia is an enduring topic constantly arousing people's sympathy. Chendian village of shayang county in Jingmen city is such an ordinary village. The robust labor force mostly left their emaciated family members, who even could not handle the piles of straw. Now the stook, previously regarded as source of joy in childhood, has become a disturbing problem for those working remotely. Direct incineration of thatched heap does not only pollute the nearby environment, but also cause potential fire hazards. However, the centralized processing malfunctioned in the rural areas for that the composition of families varies enormously. It is the very point to revaluate the value of thatched.

04 Inward Sublime The project is located in Seda, Sichuan Province, China, which carries the religious culture of ancient Tibetan temples and has become a religious settlement built spontaneously by monks. At the same time, the occurrence of a residential burning caught the attention of the government and occurrence of a residential burning caught the attention of the government and accelerate the process of urban expansion. The blaze of fire may burn down the dream of religious freedom and culture, exposing the intensifcation of conflicts between ancient natural settlements and the urban development, even the future that village will eventually be "urbanized". Chinese traditional architecture have been isolated as a unique culture that has lost its foothold in the modern society. In a place with pure culture, it may be able to reshape, and would wake up the origin of religion and culture. The project would creat a land of religious purity, serving as an integrated facility invested with village functions and memories. As a balance between city and village, it weighes each other's chips in the scales of urban and religions.

It is formed by recoganization and creation of different traditional Chinese architectural elements. There are seven major spatial nodes correspond to the seven states of the monk's cultivation process. The ramp on the outskirts of the building is its main thoroughfare, and monks must walk on it to reach the destination. It symbolizes the pilgrimage path. Hanging below the ramp is living modules, which forms the surfaces of the building, offering monks places to rest and practice.
