Coch-y-Bonddu Books launches a new series about the history of flyfishing

HIS spring sees the launch of a new series of books looking at the history and bibliography of flyfishing. These are not aimed at the mass-market, but at the serious flyfisher, fly-tyer and angling book collector. Each edition will be limited to only 250 copies, and will be signed and numbered by the authors. The first four titles are already available, having been launched at the BFFI in February. Peter Hayes, author of the highly-praised Fly Fishing Outside the Box has written the first book in the series, Imitators of the Fly: a History, which describes the period of angling revolution which spanned the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, and the work carried out by the great angler-entomologists; Halford, Mosely, Marryat and others, of the London-based Flyfishers' Club. In The Lost Salmon Flies of Balmoral, Colin Innes tells us of the salmon flies used by his ancestor, John Michie, who was Factor to Queen Victoria on her estate at Balmoral. Michie left diaries describing the flies he used, and some of these have been recreated by Eddie Kublin. In volumes 3 & 4, Keith Harwood & Ken Callahan share knowledge of angling literature, including rare fishing books and how to source them.
