design philosophy My motivation to design is entirely driven by the idea of utilizing my creative mind to bring people’s dreams to life. The work I produce is inspired by people and for people. I strongly believe that good design has the ability to impact humanity in every form. Growing up, my parents emphasized how “the world is not that big of a place.” However, I did not believe them until I traveled throughout Europe on my own. It is amazing to me how easily people can relate to eachother despite geographical location, cultural differences, and language barriers especially when it comes to design. No matter where you are from, when you walk into Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia you are brought to a state of awe; people of all races are mesmerized by I.M. Pei’s Louvre Pyramid; regardless of the language you speak, you understand the language of love in Klimt’s The Kiss . . . It is this concept of crossing cultural barriers and celebrating the beauty of this planet through design that

lights a fire in my soul.

concept statement : It’s no secret that Facebook made a mistake and let its users down. However, Mark Zuckerberg and his Facebook team have taken full responsibility for their wrongdoings and have been working tirelessly both physically and financially to ensure Facebook holds tight to its fundamental values – connecting people across the globe instantly, while protecting their personal data. Facebook has purchased a property on the beautiful North Shore of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as a benchmark for its new “Here Together” campaign. This campaign is all about “making sure the time we all spend on Facebook is time well spent connecting with others.” There’s no better place for Facebook to reinvent itself than in the city of Pittsburgh, considering it, too, is in a process of transition. It’s moving away from the steel production city it once was known as and is embracing its new love and knack for sustainability and technology. Inspired by the vast amount of steel bridges, push for green living, and growing technological talent that Pittsburgh prides itself on, this Facebook office will combine elements of steel with those of nature to create the perfect (LEED Green Certified) space for employees to further develop the Facebook app we love. The office’s state-of-the-art technology appliances and open floor plan design will promote a sense of community within the office while prompting Facebook employees to complete their tasks to the highest standard. A bike sharing program, as well as, office hoteling opportunities will further promote health, well-being, and focus in the office. Through utilization of the design process and compliance with ADA protocol, this office will be comfortable and welcoming to people of all walks of life. Furthermore, this new Facebook office will offer an incredible view of the city of Pittsburgh, making it a hot-spot to host company events and encouraging the people of Facebook to forge real relationships with the people of this city. 9

design development user requirements :

design ideas and motifs :

“This space not only houses workers but it is also used for tours, such as visiting groups who are being educated about the products and services provided by the company. They need to be able to present themselves to visitors/customers in a way that educates public about who they are and what they do, what they are and what they are providing to public. This is a place designated to showcase Facebook and what they provide. This space is also a public relations and marketing space to be used to host events that will include meals and screenings of the nature, mission, vision, products, and capabilities of Facebook.”

The 4-Star Luxury Micro, Arlo Hotels were developed by Oleg Pavlov and Seth Schumer, who are duo executives at London-based Quadrum Global. Initially, Pavlov and Schumer planned to team up with John Pritzker’s Commune Hotels & Resorts to open properties at the sites under its micro-unit, Tommie Brand. Instead, they parted ways with Commune and started their own hospitality firm, which they named Arlo. In 2016, both Arlo Soho and Arlo NoMad were opened in New York City. Designed as a haven, respite and gathering place for urban explorers, the Arlo brand was conceptualized and designed by Brand Bureau, and the hotel interiors were designed by its sister firm, AvroKO. Although the two current Arlo locations have found success marketing themselves as the “home-base for the urban explorer (www.arlohotels.com),” Arlo has brought in a new group to design and develop the interiors for its third location (to open in 2019). Arlo decided to partner with New York based firm, Meyer Davis, to design the interiors for Arlo Midtown. This hotel will be located just minutes from both Times Square and Hudson Yards, the groundbreaking new development along the West Side of Manhattan, New York. +

concept statement : Arlo was inspired by you and for you. Simplistic furnishings complimented by earth-tone colors encourage guests to slow down and get in touch with their soul. Carefully placed lounge and bar areas make it easy for guests to forge new relationships. With a hot coffee in hand or a whiskey on the rocks from Arlo’s BoxKite Bodega, you have the freedom to escape reality and focus on the things that matter most to you. This idea of self-fulfillment is reiterated by the nine-story, centrally located, atrium wall, reminding guests that the sky is the limit. When it’s time to settle down, thoughtfully-planned guest rooms allow you to deepen relationships or maybe even delve into a state of self-discover self reflection.y. Whatever it may be.

guestroom experience : micro-hotel, the therooms roomsare arequite quitesmall small––each eachroom roomaverages averagesapproximately right around Considering this is a micro-hotel, 170 square feet. That being said, the design challenge was to not only create a beautiful space, but also a functional space. A key feature that make these rooms functional for guests is the work stations – in the queen room, a murphy desk is installed to be dropped down off the wall when needed, and, in the king room, the desk is movable, so guests can move it around as needed. The rooms also integrate a mini bar and safe into the closet to cut down on space, making it easily accessible for guests and adding to their overall experience. In my opinion, the perfect Saturday is cuddling up in bed with a soft comforter and a hot cup of coffee and just reading or watching a movie. This is the feeling guests will have laying in their hotel bed. The typical headwall was inspired by the juxtaposition of life’s structure and the human demonstratedbybythe thesteel steelbed bedframe framewhile and the free-spirit that we free-spirit. The structure of life is demonstrated humans have and should embrace is embodied in the live edge head board.
