METAMORPHOSIS by Gail Mancuso

FOREWORD Sometimes a piece of art comes at you full force, overwhelms your senses and then disappears, as if it didn't exist at all. Not so with Gail Mancuso's works. Her imagery has a tendency to enter gracefully into your psyche and without realizing it, takes root. Much like the artist herself, she glides into a room like water, silent yet steady. here are people who take up too much space, not because of their size, but because of their need. Not Gail. She makes space for others. You feel as though there is room for you, in her space, in her works. here is an invitation to enter a world that has a gossamer quality, yet when you look more deeply, there is a irmness, a strength that exudes from her subject, sometimes slightly veiled, sometimes apparent. Focusing on architecture and design, nature and human forms, her works are so dimensional that it is diicult to count the layers that begin to seep into your view. Her wide range of techniques culminate in a composition that is abstract yet all at once recognizable. It is no wonder Gail began her career on the opposite side of the camera as a fashion model. Her beauty was not only physical, but carried over to her keen sense of intelligence to accomplish and express beauty in other forms. Streets, buildings, random people on the street, rain. She is a master of the technical aspects of photography infused with a heightened sense of composition, light, shadow, and most of all, a sense of why this picture needs to be. What is the relevance? Unlike other photographers who control and pose their subjects, Gail inds a natural focus to create her layered abstracts that envelop a room with restrained elegance. Much like Gail herself, each photo is a highly dimensional character, an expression of her zen-like countenance that pours like a beam of light. Gail Mancuso's photographs are infused with a poetic blending of multiple images into imaginative and innovative compositions. Whether it is Tifany glass, a bunch of rags, a high-rise or a shop window, Gail Mancuso's vision presents an optimistic view of the nature of simplicity that oten goes unnoticed.
