Circus Mathematics Art

Magicians, mathematics, mystics & the defunct entertainment of abandoned funfairs & curiosity sideshows serve as influence behind my kaleidoscopic paintings. Two-point perspective is twisted & fused with isometric & oblique perspectives to construct subtle visual frictions within my analogue environments. These mazes like interiors draw references to early virtual computer games. The deserted & sparsely furnished scenes conflict with the paintings‘ decadence of pattern & colour. Opposition & visual unity are constant themes in my work. The depicted spaces & shrouded identities are in constant competition against the patterned background, which threatening to engulf the image & reduce the painting to mere wall decoration. Elements form one painting may migrate to another or even into the gallery space. The intermit-scaled paintings often serve as blue prints, giving rise to sculptural forms, installations & dioramas. In this way, the paintings give rise to physical mimicries, which populate their surroundings. Additionally, an existing artwork may inform the development of a new painting, & subsequent sculptures and installations. Through variable configurations, new artworks open fresh dialogues & interrelations with existing works, exploring interconnectivity of individual artworks & multiple layering of concepts & ideas. Prime numbers define the perimeters & inform the compositional structure of the paintings. They additional impact & inform the scale and realization of the sculptural & installational elements. My interest with Prime numbers stems from their concrete indivisibility & peculiar sequential pattern, gifting them a kind of mathematical mysticism. Within my work, Primes serve as a mode of exploring mathematic & aesthetic relations, offering an area of expanded enquiry & rational from principals of classical golden section. This concealed, underlying mathematical structure governs the formation & development of individual compositions, directing artistic decision making, therefore defining the finished artwork.
