„Imago“ – unter diesem Ausstellungstitel zeigt von Haefen aktuelle Arbeiten in der Grunewalder Galerie Villa Köppe. „Imago“ [Plural: Imagines]: Dieser lateinische Begriff bezeichnet 1.) [Psychologisch] ein im Unterbewusstsein existierendes [Ideal]bild einer anderen Person der sozialen Umwelt. 2.) [Biologisch] ein fertig ausgebildetes geschlechtsreifes Insekt. 3.) [Im antiken Rom] eine wächserne Totenmaske von Vorfahren, die im Atrium des Hauses aufgestellt wurde. „Imago“: Mit diesen drei dem Titel inhärenten Bedeutungsebenen wird die inhaltliche Ausrichtung der aktuellen Werke von Haefens vortrefflich pointiert. So präsentieren die Bilder – u. a. großformatig in Acryl oder kleinformatig in Gouache – allesamt Personen: größtenteils inspiriert durch die Idole unseres medialen Maskenballs. Sie zeigen dabei das brand-aktuelle Thema der sich allmählich abzeichnenden Auflösung von bislang rigide definierten Geschlechterrollen. Und – sie spielen mit der idolisierenden Verklärung. Sie werden selbst zu Ikonen. Von Haefens Bilder fesseln durch ihre Ambivalenzen. Das Glänzende, Glamouröse, Glatte der medialen Vorbilder kippt und schlägt um: ins Melancholische, Bedrohliche, Aggressive. Aus dem Schein wird Sein. Auch die Leinwandoberfläche wird durch das Spiel der Gegensätze zu einem aufregenden Ort des Geschehens: Volumina versus Flächigkeit, Hohlraum versus Stofflichkeit, Linie versus Farbfläche, Vereinfachung versus Detailliertheit. Von Haefen arbeitet kontrolliert und konservativ – mit einem großen und überzeugenden Gespür für die aktuellen Themen dieser Zeit. Dr. Heike Welzel-Philipp – Kunsthistorikerin, 2014

„Imago”: Under this exhibition theme von Haefen is presenting current works in the Grunewald Gallery Villa Köppe „Imago“ [pl.: imagines]: This Latin expression stands for 1.) [psychologically] an (idealised) picture of another person in the context of his/her social surroundings, existing in the subconciousness 2.) [biologically] a fully grown adult insect, having reached sexual maturity 3.) [in ancient Rome] a waxen ancestorial death mask, put up on display in the courtyard of one‘s house. „Imago“: The exhibitions title and its inherent 3 semantic levels of meaning excellently emphasize the contentual direction of von Haefens current works. In this context all the works -including large-sized acrylic and and small-sized gouache- show people, mainly inspired by the „mask“-wearing idols, shown to us in everyday media. The pictures hereby also show the current theme of the gradual progression of the dissolution of rigidly defined gender roles. They play on idolized transfigurations, that they themselves become icons. Von Haefens works capture through their ambivalence. The shine, the glamour and the smoothness of their media counterparts are being tilted and reversed into something melancholic, looming and aggressive. Illusion becomes reality. The screens surface with its play of opposites becomes a fascinating arena of occurences: Volume vs. flatness, hollowness vs. materiality, lines vs. layers of colours, simplification vs. detail magnification. Geboren in Oldenburg. Studium an der Kunstakademie in Karlsruhe bei Herkenrath, Klumbies, Knaupp, Ackermann und Krieg. Studium der Kunstgeschichte, Baugeschichte und Literaturwissenschaft an der TU Karlsruhe. Studium der Kunstgeschichte und Archäologie an der Universität Tübingen. Freischaffend in München tätig. Lebt und arbeitet seit 1996 in Berlin und Italien.
