Physical Education / Success Maker

Encore Science at Galileo Jessica English englijm@d11.org The Encore Science program at Galileo allows scholars to explore science beyond the core curriculum. Through exploration, imagination, and scientific reasoning, scholars will develop in-depth concepts of physics. Encore Science is hands-on, experimental science! Space Travel and Astronomy explores telescopes, meteors, comets, and rocketry. Flight is an exciting course on how objects fly, gravity, and how many flying machines work. Simple Machines and Inventions will allow scholars to create inventions using the basics concepts of simple machines. The Need for Speed is a thrilling course about renewable and non-renewable energy. Scholars will be asked to create different types of vehicles and race them! Structural Engineering is a course all about building! Scholars will have the opportunity to build bridges, towers and cranes. Electricity and Magnets is a class that studies magnetic fields, circuit boards, and electrical experiments.

Apple iMac computers with a variety of programs will be used by scholars in their computers classes. Courses will be both rigorous and relevant to scholars. Classes offered include: • Introduction classes will provide scholars the occasion to work on typing skills and basic Office programs. • Video production uses a state of the art studio, featuring Neutek Tricaster for broadcasting and Final Cut express for editing. • Animation uses a variety of software to create animated shorts in which scholars will explore a variety of subjects. • Photoshop utilizes the Adobe Suite to create a variety of compilation and standalone images.
