• The appointment of ten members of staff as Wellbeing Champions who will work to support the overall health and wellbeing agenda across the Manx Telecom Group, encouraging all employees to think about and act on improving their mental, physical, and emotional health and wellbeing.

• Support for other sustainable actions by local groups and organisations through the It’s Our Community grant scheme and Make a Difference days.

As Head of the ESG team for Manx Telecom, Sally Lawrence is naturally passionate about the company having a positive impact on the Island, and on people and the planet more generally.

“It’s clear to everyone now that businesses also have responsibilities to their communities as well as to their customers and shareholders,” says Sally. “With the demand for more transparent reporting, it’s crucial that businesses recognise both the risks that are posed, and the benefits that can be attained, by the way they operate.

“We’re pleased to see many of our initial goals coming to fruition. And while many of the environmental and social activities are visible to everyone, it’s also important to recognise some of the improvements in governance that are not so obvious to those outside the business.

“Manx Telecom has always strived to reach high standards and be in the top flight of telecommunications companies. We have a long list of external accreditations to our name, including ISOs on health and safety, quality management, information security and environmental management.

“Through our ESG plans, we are also focusing on increasing the gender balance in our management and technical roles as well as increasing diversity in the workforce through recruitment and career development pathways that encourage equality.

“Of course, ESG is a journey – there is always more to do. We are now well advanced with the next version of our road map and look forward to implementing more actions to play our part in creating a more sustainable future for our Island and our people.”
