Some notes on my drawing Lynne Woods Turner – I make abstract drawings with pencil on paper. The papers are usually handmade, old, or uniquely designed or shaped for another purpose. – I work small because the papers I find tend to be small and because I think small things are worth consideration. It is a choice to try to make something from very little. – The drawings are not about “self ” expression, but the process of attentiveness that allows one to lose the self. – The images are based on geometry and begin with a question rather than an idea. The process is contemplative and motivated by the pleasure of problem solving. – Content resides in material, touch, and in the intrinsic metaphors at the heart of artistic expression: balance, focus, perspective, proportion, transformation. – I aim for something that both expands and contracts.
