RUSSIA’S MODERN MASTERS

Gallery Shchukin presents

NIGHT LIFE, STAGE LIFE AND EVERYDAY LIFE BY RUSSIA’S MODERN MASTERS On view from September 11th to November 8th, 2014 and is pleased to invite you to EXHIBITION OPENING Thursday, September 11, 2014, from 18h to 21h00 Organized by Matthew Drutt from the collections of Marina and Nikolay Shchukin From September 11th to November 8th, 2014, presents a selection of the private collections of Marina and Nikolay Shchukin dedicated to modern Russian artists. Curated by Matthew Drutt, the exhibition «NIGHT LIFE, STAGE LIFE AND EVERYDAY LIFE» BY RUSSIA’S MODERN MASTERS shows a variety of genres from the beginning of the 20th century into the 1930’s that offer an alternative view of the Russian Avant-Garde as exclusively preoccupied with formalism and politics. It shows a joie de vivre that runs counter to the message of proletarian revolution that is more widely heralded when looking at these artists. Many of them continued to be influenced by French styles, and indeed many, like Goncharova and Tchelitchew, were able to travel to Paris and work with professional theater companies, offering them opportunities not available to them back in Russia. Gallery Shchukin opened in 2013 in the heart of the Rive Droite and also operates a second space opened in 2014 in the Chelsea gallery district in New York. Its program is devoted to international modern and contemporary art.
