Aqua is a perfect combination of artistic values and quality. Our atelier creates art pieces that function as design objects. Our lights are beautifully made and detailed, using the most advanced and sustainable lighting technology. Our upholstery is hand worked and finished, like a haute couture garment. The idea of Aqua started in 1991 during Ayala’s pregnancy with our first daughter. The notion that all life starts in water lead Ayala to create the first collection of functional art pieces, which developed into Ayala’s own visual language and positioned her as a pioneer of organic design. Ayala and I built Aqua under one roof because we wanted to direct all elements of creativity and production. We started the atelier in 1994 working at our home, which also functioned as Ayala’s artist studio and my photography studio. To this day, we are now located in a 4500 sqare meter former bakery, we design, develop, produce and distribute from one location and are loyal to all the same values. All pieces are handmade to order by skilled artisans who craft each piece individually, with utmost care and respect for our heritage. With increasing demand for bespoke design and with an extended network of architects and interior designers, Aqua is committed to design and produce site specific lighting installations of any scale. Today Aqua continues to explore this sensibility and expression with a group of talented designers and keeps introducing new materials, techniques and forms. While Ayala continues to design for the atelier, she focuses on research and creates one-off and limited edition pieces under her own name. It is a joy to see Aqua being a part of many amazing commercial and residential projects all over the world and we commit to pursuing our goal to respect our heritage and create the best products. Silk Lighting The monumental scale of lighting sculptures combined with the exquisite use of silk fabric has become Aqua Creations’ trademark over the years. The result is sophisticated tailored lamps that reveal a new dimension in lighting. All lampshades in the Silk Lighting Collections are made of hand dyed, treated and crushed silk that is resistant to mold and fire. The silk is sculpted over a metal structure. As our fabrics are hand dyed, hues may vary slightly.

When lit, the silk colors change with use of warm or cool white bulbs. In order to create a contemporary atmosphere we use warm white, 3000 Kelvin (equivalent to OSRAM 830) bulbs for the colors, Cream, Red, Flame, Rust, Orange and Curry. Cool white, 4000 Kelvin (equivalent to OSRAM 840) bulbs, are recommended for the colors, Redwood, Sand, Shell, Gold, Coal, Dark, Stone, Silver, Smoke and Grass.

Since 2005 Aqua Creations has pioneered the implementation of electronic ballasts with Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI). DALI ballasts have a full dimming range from 1 to 100% allowing it to match the diverse requirements of both commercial and residential projects. Aqua Creations offers several options of DALI ballasts control: 1. Touch dim and standard dimming control 2. Cutting edge, remote battery free wireless control 3. Computerized control Aqua Creations successfully employs the above technologies in all regions providing solutions compatible with local lighting industry standards.
Dimming Options Type A: Leading edge phase Floor/Wall dimmer controls CFL screw-in dimmable bulbs or plug-in CFL bulbs with ECG. Floor dimmer is included with any portable lighting fixture. Wall dimmer is not included (purchased separately). Type C: Floor/Wall push-button (touch dim) controls plug-in CFL bulbs with ECG (DALI or DSI). Floor push-button is included with any portable lighting fixtures. Type E: Wireless remote control dimmer kit controls plug-in CFL bulbs with ECG (DALI or DSI). Wireless dimmer kit is included with each lighting fixture. Type F: Upon request, DALI rotary dimmer controls plug-in CFL bulbs with ECG. DALI rotary dimmer with power supply is included with each lighting fixture. Type J: 1-10 V dimmer controls plug-in CFL bulbs with ECG.
Note: Computer controlled Light Management Systems may be used instead of dimming devices; in this case all compatibility issues should be negotiated with manufacturer and reflected in contract and/or order.

Most of the lighting pieces function with more than one light bulb. Aqua Creations uses compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL) in its silk lighting designs. These bulbs create less heat than incandescent bulbs, are highly efficient and have a lifetime of 10,000 to 12,000 hours. Some lamps require Screw-in Self-Ballasted bulbs and some require plug-in bulbs with an electronic control gear (ECG). For optimal light diffusion use recommended bulbs only. Measurements are provided in centimeters and inches, with +/- 2% tolerance.

Protective Silk Coating Special commercial grade resin coating is available upon request. It is highly recommended for pieces intended for public installations or areas of humidity or smoke. This coating does not change the appearance of the silk, but strengthens the texture.
Silk Care Instructions For optimal maintenance vacuum the silk frequently (make sure the vacuum cleaner is at low suction and use a clean attachment) and avoid direct sunlight or smoke. To remove stains use upholstery foam cleaner (as these vary from country to country, testing the product on a hidden spot first is recommended). In case of heavier dirt use a moist sponge and make sure to move it along the crushed line of the silk. Please do not clean coated lamps with water. Note that any good quality silk fibers weaken when exposed to sun and natural dyes may fade. Hence, avoid direct sunlight on the silk lights.
Molecules Lighting Care Instructions The origami lampshades in this collection are made of the best quality origami paper that easily resists environmental influences and changes. We recommend regular dry dusting with a feather duster or a very soft (paint) brush in order to maintain the appearance and quality.
Tokonoma Lighting Care Instructions The felt on these lamps is handmade of the finest merino wool and pure silk. We recommend regular dry dusting. The felt can also resist cleaning with a moist cloth or sponge.
Upholstery Fabric Care Instructions Regular cleaning is important in order to keep the upholstery looking its best and to prolong its life. Dust and dirt wear down the textile. We recommend regular vacuum cleaning and removing non-greasy stains using a moist cloth or sponge. Do not rub the upholstery fabric hard.

Nara Collection Design by Ayala Serfaty
This playful collection of rounded squares derives its name directly from the ancient Japanese capital which was built in a grid-like pattern. The classic square is always chic and has an elegant effect on any room. This particular design introduces a combination of hand crafted silk with plain geometry. The Nara lamps come in multiple sizes as ceiling lights, wall fixtures and pendants. They may be placed as singular lamps or a grouped installation.

Sunsa 21 Sunsa 10 The Sunsa chandeliers suggest visions of radiant, luminous colonies of flying saucers, clouds, or leaves over water. It demonstrates designer Ayala Serfaty’s continuous interest in organic design. Each shade carries her signature visual language, while the combination of the various shades creates a magnificent cellular structure that showcases the strength of the whole, representing both serenity and vitality. The Sunsa chandelier was derived from a site specific project in Valencia, that was then developed into the Sunsa Collection. This chandelier is highly customizable to fit a specific space.

Molecules Collection Designed by Ofir Zucker & Albi Serfaty, in collaboration with origami artist Ilan Garibi
Molecules is a comprehensive lighting collection based on the origami art of Ilan Garibi. The traditional Japanese art of paper folding begins with a blank sheet of paper that is folded and sculpted by hand into tessellations of individual molecules, with no cuts. The paper used for the origami lamp shades perfectly diffuses the light and easily resists the folding. A complement and contrast at the same time are the mahogany wood structures, which derive their shape by digital wood carving (CNC). The lamps are operated and controlled by touch. In Aqua’s tradition, natural materials and artisanal manufacturing interact with technology; the result is an elegant and luxurious lighting collection.

Tokonoma Collection Design by Albi Serfaty & Eitan Ben Tovim
The inspiration for this collection came from Tokonoma, a Japanese style reception area in which objects for natural and artistic appreciation and inspiration are displayed. The Tokonoma lamps were created in the spirit of such objects. The collection is refined and strikes through understated aesthetics and contemporary design. The materials used are handmade felt for the shades, and wood for the supporting stands. Aqua’s artisans make the felt in four different finishes, using the finest merino wool and pure silk. Each finish represents one of the four seasons: Haru for Spring, Natsu for Summer, Aki for Autumn and Fuyu for Winter. The wooden stands are shaped by digital wood carving (CNC). The lamps are powered by digitally dimmable LEDs, operated and controlled by touch.

The Apaya Collection exemplifies Ayala Serfaty’s passionate research of textiles and light. Celebrating the inherent qualities of natural color and structure, wool becomes a sculptural carrier of light in a uniquely aesthetic way. The pieces in the Apaya Collection are all hand made using ecological and environmentally friendly materials. As it combines ancient wool felting techniques with modern lighting technology, the Apaya Collection safeguards heritage whilst re-inventing its future. The felted wool is moulded into a singular sleeve that is slipped over a transparent cylinder. This sleeve is easily removed for dry cleaning or exchanged for another design.

Ayala Serfaty took the idea of ones own topography further and developed a collection with a special, hand stitched upholstery technique, reminiscent of the fluid forms found in nature. Shasta Ceramic table

Hand-sculpted out of clay, the Shasta Ceramic Table exhibits a simple and minimalistic aesthetic. With its organic shape, smooth contours and clean lines, this ceramic table serves as a side coffee table as well as a sculptural element. Designed by Ayala Serfaty, the Shasta table was created in collaboration with ceramic artist Marcelle Klein. The Shasta table is available in white or black.

Satala Hammock

Satala is a sculptural furniture piece, a hammock supported on one leg with a rubber coated metal ball at the end of the single foot. A mounting bracket is provided for mounting to a suitable wall that can sustain its weight. The Satala has a removable down-filled cushion suitable for outdoor use if mounted in a location that has a roof or shelter. The Satala is made of galvanized metal, painted in a bronze-like shade. Options available: Customer’s own material, with no repeat: 6 meters, 7 yards. Optimo fill is used for outdoor locations.

The Anana sculptural furniture pieces are created from fabric covered pods tailored to form three-dimensional surfaces. The pods are made by hand and sculpted over the piece. Hand crafting the pods produces organic geometry, at the same time both sturdy and sensually free. Legs are made of bronze-finished brass. Options: Custom sizing and shapes available. Anana can be upholstered in a single color or multiple compositions of eight different colors combined. Upholstery offered in micro fiber.
