CO-PRESENTED BY:

Sankofa Theatre Company returns to August Wilson’s “Pittsburgh Cycle,” the playwright’s series of ten plays chronicling the African American experience decade-by-decade in the 20th century. Having previously delighted audiences with their productions of Gem of the Ocean, The Piano Lesson, Fences and Seven Guitars, Sankofa will now tackle Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. Set in a Pittsburgh boarding house, it is the story of a makeshift family of people who come to stay, some for days, some longer, during the Great Migration of the century’s second decade. As descendants of former slaves move in large numbers from the South toward the industrial cities of the North, seeking new jobs, new lives and new beginnings, themes of racism and discrimination come to the fore in this riveting tale as told by the region’s only African American theatre company.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2022, 8 PM TICKETS: $49/59/69/79* PREMIER PARTNER:

nor straight-faced, but neither are they vaudeville-style kitsch. They have emerged as a phenomenon with a massive fan base, numerous national TV appearances and proven recording success. SNC is the real deal, the captivating sound of nine unadulterated human voices coming together to make extraordinary music that is moving people in a fundamental sense...and with a sense of humor. On the road, SNC has built a reputation as an unforgettable live act—as previous Gallo Center audiences will enthusiastically attest! *This show was announced prior to the pandemic.
