EXPECT
Osmond's SHOW TO BE
‘Unexpected’ BY VIRGINIA STILL
In her fifth decade in the entertainment business, Marie Osmond owes much to Lucille Ball, Sammy Davis Jr., Bob Hope and other legends who tutored her and helped develop her continuing appreciation of performing for audiences. “I just love the people, I really do,” said Osmond. “It keeps you getting up in the morning and being positive. It is interesting to see how people keep finding you and it keeps you motivated to keep finding them.” Osmond also has been motivated to continue performing thanks to stories fans have shared about how her books, shows and music have been a positive force in their lives and helped them through hard times. These stories have in turn inspired her to offer people a spiritual message every Sunday on social media, to help them “move forward even when it is dark.” Over the past five decades, Osmond has enjoyed great success as a singer, talk show host, dancer, actor, author, doll maker, spokesperson, television personality, radio host, and Broadway performer. Along the way she also became the co-founder of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, the non-profit organization that helps sick and injured children with a network of 170 hospitals in North America.
“ 4
YOU’RE GOING TO SEE
Every Style of Music. ”
“We help over 11 million kids a year,” she noted. “It is so good to know that all of the money goes to the kids. It all stays local and benefits children in your local community. So I love doing charity work and things like that as well.” As a young girl, Osmond had a love for country music, but learned to appreciate other genres including pop music from the American Songbook, and even some operas. “Paper Roses” was Osmond’s first solo hit, topping the country charts in 1973 and propelling her to

international fame. Subsequent years saw her join brother Donny in many live and televised shows, as well as performing together in a residency at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas for 11 years. For her show at the Gallo Center, she will be appearing with

30 members of the Modesto Symphony Orchestra. The show also will feature guest artists David Osmond (her nephew) and Daniel Emmet from America’s Got Talent. “You will love the combination,” Osmond said. “It will be really cool. It is who I am right now. You are not going to see this in Vegas.” Osmond’s new album, appropriately titled Unexpected, has 17 tracks and is dedicated to her father George Virl Osmond. Among the cuts are “Unexpected Song,” “But the World Goes ‘Round,” “Climb Every Mountain,” and “Nessun Dorma.”
Audiences for her current shows will experience a “music fest,” according to Osmond, with a few songs from her last album, Music is Medicine, some songs from the new album, some big band tunes, and fan favorites. “I don’t believe in doing anything at this point in my life unless it is really fun and it leaves the audience with something wonderful to discuss later on,” she added. “You are going to see every style of music. I have challenged myself to learn and understand all music, just as it is important to understand all people.” “I worked really hard in my life to master some of these things,” she said. “Life is always challenging and you never know what you can do until you give it a shot. Fear is something we have to overcome. The hardest thing is change and it is the only consistent thing in our life.” Osmond is a grandmother now—yes, a grandmother—and loves spending time with her eight grandchildren. While she will continue to perform, spending time with family remains a top priority.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2021, 8 PM TICKETS: $59/79/89/99 This award-winning singer, songwriter, and sometime-actor is revered in his home country of Mexico -- and throughout Latin America -- as the "Poet of Song." FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2021, 7:30 PM TICKETS: $29/39/49/59
PREMIER PARTNER:
The beloved indie classic film Napoleon Dynamite was made over 15 years ago. Since then much has changed; but the characters, as enduring as they are endearing, stay in our hearts. Appealing to the inner-teenager in each of us, the story, and more importantly the dialogue, makes Napoleon Dynamite one of the most quoted movies of our time. It makes us laugh – and laugh hard – over and over again. This unique evening includes a full screening of Napoleon Dynamite followed by a lively, freewheeling, moderated discussion with fan-favorite cast members: Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Efren Ramirez (Pedro) and Jon Gries (Uncle Rico). This performance was originally scheduled prior to the pandemic. Seating options may be limited due to prior sales.
