My Life as a Third Grade‌Books My Life as a Third Grade Zombie My Life as a Third Grade Vampire My Life as a Third Grade Werewolf
It was near the beginning of the school year, just before Parents’ Night. Devon was new at the school, but he’d gotten off to a great start. He’d made a lot of friends. He liked his teacher. He liked the principal. He was on the soccer team. He was in the chorus. It was going to be a very good year!

Devon was different from some of his classmates. He was a little taller. “Stand up straight!” his mother always warned him, “or you will grow up to look like a candy cane.” Devon loved peppermint, so he did not think that would be so bad.
2
Devon was “maturing” early, or that’s what his pediatrician, Dr. Diaper, said. “Kids develop at different rates,” Dr. Diaper told his parents. “It’s OK. They all catch up to each other sooner or later.”
3
Most of the kids ate the school lunch, but Devon brought his own lunch to school —steak tartar* usually. He LOVED steak tartar. His mom did not mind making it for him since it was so easy.
*Steak tartar is raw steak.

Devon is a regular third-grader…well, sort of. Devon seems to have an awful lot of hair and a lot of big teeth. Principal Ernie worries that he has some kind of “weirdo kid werewolf” on his hands. Devon’s friends insist that he is not a werewolf. “Then why does he only eat raw meat?” their teacher, Ms. Bogus, asks. “And why does he howl at the moon?” Seems like there’s some explaining to do—about how kids don’t all develop in the same way? As for Devon, he just likes to sing and dance!
