MARYNOOK COMMUNITY & NEIGHBORS

CRI M E ALERT

Within the past four weeks there have been thirteen reported home burglaries within the Marynook community. As residents, we must increase our vigilance in observing and reporting any suspicious individuals and/or activities. We must network with our surrounding neighbors in an effort to decrease these crimes. It is very important to call 911 immediately if someone looks suspicious. Help the police by being their eyes and ears. There have been several incidents where scandalous criminals have been seen walking down the street with stolen property in plain view, and the police were not called by witnesses. This is unacceptable. Within the past week, two attempted burglaries were thwarted as a result of observant neighbors and quick calls to 911. It appears that our community is being targeted. Thieves are bold enough to ring doorbells to determine if you are home. They are also looking through front windows and rear windows. This activity has been observed repeatedly by many neighbors throughout the last week. The witnessed offenders are young males, between the ages of 15-20 years. They appear to be of high school age, often carrying book-bags. Also please be aware of several suspicious vehicles (i.e. Brown full size van with Indiana plates, Grey 4 door Toyota approx. year.”92”, Champaign Mazda Miata approx. year “89”, and a Black 2 door Oldsmobile with a yellow temporary plate approx. year “99”). We must act NOW! Please provide our Marynook President, Mr. Nicholas Galloway with your home/cell phone number to be included in the Marynook “Phone Alert System”. This information will enable Mr. Galloway to inform, the Marynook residents who have provided their phone numbers, with an automated message of criminal activity and upcoming meetings (i.e. Marynook Homeowners meetings, CAPS meetings). He may be reached at 773-734-5356. If no answer please provide your name, address, phone number, & e-mail address to voicemail. It is preferred that you e-mail Marynook@Yahoo.Com with this info and if so please provide your preferred email address (note: please include MHA in the subject line or the e-mail will be rejected.) Beware of ALL solicitors (i.e. snow shovelers, gutter cleaners, children going door to door). Light up your homes. Use timers on Radios, TV’s and Interior lights to turn them on and off. Put up flood lights with sensors on the exterior of your homes. Consider Rear Rolling Shutters & Security Doors. Take special efforts to secure the rear of your homes as almost all of these recent burglaries have occurred thru the rear of homes (i.e. backdoors kicked in, upper and/or lower back windows broken to gain entry). ♦ ♦ ♦ (Turn Page OVER) ♦ ♦ ♦
