Why Hire a Professional? Experience

Safety

Going to a professional photographer for your newborn’s photographs is not just about getting a “picture” of your baby. Going to a photographer is about having heirlooms for your family to have and pass on. It is about getting beautiful artistic one of a kind images of your newborn that you will want to hang out your walls, print and share with everyone you know.

When you are trying to decide whether or not to pay for professional photographs there is a lot to consider with the most important thing being safety. There are so many tips and tricks professional photographers know about when taking newborn photographs that help to get those beautiful images without putting your baby at risk. Choosing a professional who has experience and knows how to get the images in a safe way is very important.

Why Hire Me? It is important to go with your gut and not choose a photographer based solely on pricing because you will regret that decision. I don’t want to tell you to choose me as your photographer no matter what because I won’t be the right choice for all people. I want you to choose Gally Photography because you love the style and quality of my images. Choose me because you want someone who has gone to college in photography and who has spent time to learn specifically about newborn photography. Choose Gally only if you feel I am the right photographer for you.

It captures the beautiful pregnant belly of a mother, the soon to be parents’ excitement, and all the little details of preparing for the arrival of a new baby. Whether it is your first baby or whether you have other children maternity photographs can capture the relationships between current family members and the anticipation of a new member’s arrival.

Hospital Session

Hospital Sessions are usually taken within the first 48 hours after your baby’s arrival when you are still in the hospital. This is a short hour long session and separate from birth photography that happens during the delivery of the newborn. It is a chance to capture the beautiful raw moments after birth when the world is new. It is a documentation of what is happening and can even be a chance to show family meeting the new baby for the first time.

Posed Session

Posed Sessions are best taken within the first 10 days after your baby’s arrival when the baby is still sleepy and flexible. The session takes about 3 hours and is a chance to capture beautiful artistic images with different backdrops and props. This is the perfect session to get images of your baby and also individual shots with parents and siblings with studio setups.

Lifestyle Session

Lifestyle Sessions are best taken within the first 10 days after your baby’s arrival when the baby is still new to the world. The session is shorter than a posed session lasting about an hour. This is the perfect session to get images of your baby in the nursery along with images of other family members in your natural home environment.

What to Expect... Before To ensure you get the best photographs of your newborn during the session there are a few things that you can do before the session to prepare your little one. On the next page you will find some simple tricks that can make the world a difference in how your newborn handles the pictures. Flip the page to find out more!

During During the session there is not too much you have to worry about. It is great if you and/or the father are present during the session to help watch over your newborn, be prepared to feed and help make sure your newborn stays safe and spotted throughout the session while the photographer is taking images. Allyson will help guide you through the session and will let you know if there is anything you can do. It is also good to expect messes and crying. It is VERY common for babies to go to the bathroom on props and blankets so don’t worry if it happens! Most of the 3 hour session will be spent soothing and getting your newborn asleep and it is important you stay calm and not worry about this because it is completely normal.

After After the session you can expect a sneak peek of one image on social media. Then about two weeks after the session and ordering session will be scheduled. During this ordering session you will be shown the final edited images and samples of products that can be ordered. You will be walked through ordering choices and will place your order that day. So make sure all people who are ordering and involved in decisions are present and ready to order.

Why Hire Me? It is important to go with your gut and not choose a photographer based solely on pricing. Pre-Session Tips Keep awake before For a lot of newborn poses it is best to have the baby asleep. The more tired the baby is before the session the better. It will be significantly easier to get them asleep and keep them asleep during the session while moving them and changing poses if they have not been asleep for a few hours.

Wait to feed Try to schedule the session at a time that the baby is usually fed. If that is not possible adjust the feeding schedule that day so you are feeding the baby right when you get to the session or as the photographer is setting up. Feeding the baby right before the session will make the baby sleepy during photographs.

Keep an eye on temperature Turn up the temperature to around 80 degrees so the baby is warm and comfortable. This will keep your baby tired and easily handled during the session.

Loosen their diaper Loosen the diaper a little while before the session so that any diaper markings will fade and won’t be in your images.

Stay Calm Babies can sense when people are anxious around them. It is important to stay calm during the session so the baby is at ease and relaxed during pictures. Do not worry if your baby goes to the bathroom on any blankets or props this is normal and they are washed after the session!

What to wear If any family member is planning on being in the picture it is best if they are wearing a solid color. Colors that work well are white, black and grey. It is also a good idea to bring a change of clothing in case there are any accidents while photographing.
