OBJECTIVES AND SERVICES FOR AFFILIATE MEMBERS
History
GA was established in 1949 at the instigation of the Zinc Development Association (ZDA), and operated within the ZDA for forty years. In 1989, GA became independent of the ZDA, and its operations were relocated from London to Birmingham.
Members
Member companies account for over 95% of the UK and Irish general galvanizing market. The leading producers and importers of zinc for the UK galvanizing industry are also subscribing members. A number of equipment and consumable suppliers to the industry have non-voting Affiliate Membership, and a significant cohort of non-UK/Ireland galvanizing companies have non-voting International Affiliate Membership.
Mission
The mission of the Association is to provide timely, efficient and costeffective marketing, technical, environmental and health & safety representational services on behalf of the industry and thereby increase the consumption of hot dip galvanized steelwork in the UK and Irish markets.
Operations
GA is located in Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands. The staff complement is eight, consisting of Director, two members of marketing staff, two technical staff members and three administrative staff. Overheads are kept low by the use of latest technology and it is the objective of the Association to maximise the use of the subscriptions for the benefit of member companies.
The strategy is threefold:
To support the commodity and use of hot dip galvanizing through increased user awareness
To penetrate specific end-user markets by means of focused marketing to end-user groups and specifiers.
ServiceLine
To operate a Technical which supports the marketplace and which offers expert advice to galvanizers and the end-user market on the metallurgy and performance of hot dip galvanized coating, quality assessment, environmental control, health and safety, and operating practice
The Association organises regular meetings and seminars and participates in meetings arranged by similar bodies, which promote exchanges of information and the development of technology.
Suppliers to the industry benefit greatly from personal networking opportunities and a “closeness" to the sector Of course, they do not enjoy the right to vote in the affairs of the Association or stand for election to the Board.
Strategy Membership
Membership is open to companies who can satisfy the Directors that the proposed subscribing company is of good standing.
