Digital Photography and Photo Editing

Get the most out of your camera! Discover how to improve your pictures with the technical and artistic basics of digital photography. Explore the basics of taking photos and critique them in a friendly and collaborative environment. Topics discussed include camera settings, basic compositions, and different types of photography.

Using photos students take for the class we will go over basic photo editing techniques using Photoshop. Some techniques we will cover include enhancing colors, fixing blemishes, and “digital plastic surgery. This class is for the novice photographer. Bring your digital SLR camera with flash and interchangeable lenses and be comfortable using a computer. Cost: $149

Intro to Oil Painting

Local artist David Wheeler teaches you the foundations of oil painting. In this course you will explore color, paint mixing, composition and perspective. Discover how shadow and light can create drama to the subject and begin painting. A supply list is available in the CE office, and the instructor will go over the supplies needed the first day of class. Cost: $129

Ceramics

In this course you will explore the basics of the ceramic process, from hand building to the potter’s wheel. Some supplies are provided, but students will need to purchase additional supplies. Painting

This class is for those students that have always wanted to enjoy making paintings and for those that want to learn how to develop their artistic skills by improving their understanding of the painting medium. Students start by making paintings of basic observed compositions. Students learn steps that improve their work overtime as they work toward making more complex paintings. Students learn about different tools, materials and techniques used in the making of paintings. Learning to see with greater clarity what is happening in the works students create is emphasized. Drawing

This beginning class is for those students who want to understand the underlying components that occur in every drawing. Students will learn a variety of techniques using a variety or drawing materials and tools. Emphases is placed on visual analysis, structural sketches, quick sketches, layering and long drawings on good paper. Students start out creating small, quick drawings from observations of small basic environments and then move to larger more complicated illusionary space. Design

This beginning art class is for those students that want to understand what the different components in every work of art do. Students will make graphite drawings that emphasize each of the visual elements, such as line, shape, texture, value and form in combination with the principles of design. Basic Portraiture 1&2

Nationally known artist Eddie Filer will teach a series of eight-week classes on the art of painting and drawing the human head. By teaching the fundamentals of blocking in the human head with big shapes then working from the general to the particular, Mr. Filer will be focusing on changes in the face. Students will learn to recognize changes in the face from light to dark, variations of value changes in color, warm and cool temperature change in paint, large to small comparisons of plains in the face, and building three-dimensional form of the human head. Mr. Filer will also teach his way of getting a likeness through seeing negative to positive spacing, by distance relating and a big focus on the development of learning to see.
