Computer Support Technician

This program explores the PC system from software, hardware and operating system points of view. Software topics include client/server operating systems and installation, as well as licensing software application. The knowledge integrates with fundamental customer support concepts for the operation of a help desk or call center. Students will need to purchase textbooks and pay for the exam. This program is eligible for TPEG funds and payment plans. Students wishing to take the Certiport IT Specialist exam or CompTIA A+ test must purchase vouchers separately. Intro to Computers

For adults who lack familiarity with computers, life in the modern age can be a challenge. While tablets and smartphones account for a large portion of our daily technology use, computers are still an important tool. In this course we will go over basics such as accessing email, using search engines, joining social media platforms (e.g. LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter), avoiding computer viruses, sharing files, backing up data and regular maintenance to keep computers running efficiently. Cisco Networking Academy (CCNA Pathway)

Galveston College has partnered with the Cisco Networking Academy to provide an information technology skills and career building development program that provides Cisco approved learning experienced. The Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching Pathway is a series of four courses leading students to CCENT and CCNA certifications, using hands-on skills applicable to a career in networking. Students may also choose to move to the CCNA Security pathway after the completion of the first two classes.
