grand glam: celebrating the artistry of carnival Until now… This season New Orleans Fashion week is celebrating the artistry of carnival with a special runway event showcasing local costume designers in conjuction with the exhibition, Grand Illusions: The History and Artistry of Gay Carnival in New Orleans, at the Louisiana State Musem.

While its only recently made its way into mainstream culture, the culture of Drag has long been celebrated in New Orleans, a city where vivid costumes, music and the art of the spectacle are alive and flourishing. And there’s no better time than carnival to catch some of the wildest, most glamorous, avant garde costume designs.

Presented in partnership with The Louisiana State Museum and Friends of the Cabildo; Grand Glam will be an evening of feathers, beads, rhinestones and all things glamorous! Performers and models will both hit the runway in locally designed gowns and costumes fit for a queen! Proceeds museum.

Only fitting is that Orléans originale X Orleans nouvelle will be held at the home of French Impressionist Master, Edgar Degas; adding a certain element of je ne sais quois. Degas House courtyard is the perfect setting for the fashion presentation which will speak to the French fashion identity, and Degas artistry as well. The fashion fête will include Orléans couture presented under the direction of Tina Blanche, the honorary Orléans French Fashion Ambassador. voice of NOFW runway CARYLYN M. GOODWIN is a native New Orleanian raised in Historic Treme’/Esplanade Ridge neighborhood. She is no stranger to fashion having graduated from L.S.U. In Merchandising and Marketing and studied fashion at F.I.T. in NYC. Additionally, Carlyn also holds a M.B.A. From University of Phoenix.

In a world of couture and high fashion, street style was predicted to be a short lived fad; one that would never be appreciated or accepted by fashion aficionados. But on the contrary, street style has proven to have longevity and has taken a life of its own. It’s not only appreciated and worn by the cool Gen-Z Kids, and urban culture, but has crossover into mainstream, gracing the pages of many fashion magazines, worn by celebrities and seen on runways from NYC to NOLA! This season New Orleans Fashion Week makes room for three talent streetwear designers that are making their mark in the local fashion scene. These upand-coming designers will not miss a beat as each will bring his own personal touch to the runway.

Christian Suarez (God’s Eye) model by day, fashion designer by night will debut his collection on Friday, 9.27 with a mashup with Hip-Hop Artist AHA Gazelle. Taking to the NOFW’s runway on Saturday night, 9.28 will be Everett Evans (Chaleur), St. Augustine Grad and LSU Business Student that is a self-taught designer. Also showcasing on Saturday evening is Daryl Harleaux (Diamond Bolt), aka DeeLow Diamond Man, Hip-Hop Artist and fashion designer. Each will bring his own personal touch to his streetwear, remembering that street fashion is unlike other fashions, it’s a vibe, a culture, a beat, a movement.

She is a well known local voice personality whose recognizable voice has narrated the City of New Orleans Mardi GRAS parades, Gallier Hall celebrations and city meetings. Her most treasured moment is getting to narrate the Super Bowl parade, celebrating our New Orleans Saints Super Bowl win, with the late Jerry Romig, “The VOICE of Hometown Saints!”.
