Your guide to area animal shelters and rescue groups BY EMMA DISCHER

elp give a forever home to a new furry friend from one of these area animal shelters or rescue organizations. Adoption fees generally cover spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, tests for common diseases and microchipping. If you are not able to adopt or foster an animal, most shelters are looking for volunteers and donations. Information for volunteers can also be found online. If you’re interested in a particular breed of animal, contact a local shelter or search online for breed-specific rescues.
