Originally from Mpumalanga, Smith played Craven Week rugby and moved to the Lions franchise where he helped the Johannesburg team win the Currie Cup in 2015. In the 15-man format of the game, Kwagga has also represented South Africa’s U/20 side and played in the IRB World Junior Championships in France in 2013. From a young age, Garreth McLellan knew he wanted to be a professional athlete and it was always a case of “when”, not “if”. While initially pursuing a career as a professional rugby player, some alternative fitness training gave him his first exposure to the world of mixed martial arts (MMA). It quickly became evident that Garreth had a natural talent for the sport, prompting him to make the decision of trading his rugby aspirations for a career in MMA. A decision he has never looked back on.
