We are gamers, and we stick to our promises. You’re holding the second issue of Gamehubs Magazine and we thank you for your readership. To our subscribers, an added gratitude to you and your interests to Gamehubs and its nascent stages of development! You are our early adopters and we will always remember that.

If you’re wondering about the huge delay, well, we’ve been travelling in search of stories on the gaming front across Southeast Asia and the far east. Secondly, the team has grown a little bigger from what it was and we’ve been trying to make this issue an inclusive effort of the whole Gamehubs team. Since the last issue, a lot has happened in gaming. Overwatch and E3 have taken over cyberspace in June with a host of gameplay videos, trailers and even memes just to name a few. And then Pokémon Go swept the world with its record-breaking world domination. In retrospect, we were having some difficult thought processes on squeezing all these information in this issue... Perhaps we managed but fret not as we’ve diversified our content beyond things that are already crawling the internet. In this issue, we decided to reach out to people in Malaysia and the region who are in the business of gaming. We interviewed Bruce Wilkie, Software Engineer of Overwatch at Singapore’s launch event, chat up with some personalities of Astro’s new eSports channel, uncovered some secrets of games development in Malaysia and peered into a start-up’s dream of aiding the gaming community of the nation. Last but not least we tested some games such as WoW: Legion and of course, unpacking some tips on Pokémon Go. We hope you’d find this issue an improvement from our first, in which we wholeheartedly intended in alignment with your collective feedback. And we thank you for your continuous support.

NO MAN 'S SKY

Open world games have been a part of the gaming community since the late 80’s with Zelda and great new titles such as The Witcher 3, GTA V and many others that provide gamers with the sense of adventure, exploration and discovering something new. In August 2016, we are introduced to an open world universe in a game called No Man's Sky. Hello Games had a brilliant idea to create a game with 4 main components - exploration, survival, combat and trading where players interact freely in an open universe which has over 18 quintillion planets. And if you don’t already know, 18 quintillion in numbers is 18,000,000,000,000,000,000. Now that’s a HUGE number.

Great view from the Alpine Sky

Every planet has something different than the other. Players travel to planets, getting information on them and storying all information in a database called the Atlas that can be shared with other players in the game. By exploring more and more, players will be rewarded with currency that can be used to purchase new spaceships, upgrading them with more high-tech equipment so you can travel not only faster, but deeper into the universe, and also items to help you survive better in your newly discovered planet. Players that kill too many lifeforms and drain too many resources from planets will draw the attention of Sentine ls which will increase your wanted rating (Similar to GTA V) and they will try to kill you, so work together with your newly found friends around the universe and use the Atlas wisely to discover. With such a huge universe and countless planets to explore, we are not very sure if this game will be able to be completed before we age. No Man’s Sky will definitely be a great game to play with friends as well as a great game to enjoy when you just want to have a relaxing gaming session. No Man’s Sky was released in stores for the Playstation 4 and PC on the 10th of August 2016.

P OKE MON SUN & MOON 2016 marks the 20th Anniversary since the launch of Pokemon Red and Green in Japan, which was considered one of the best handheld games to date. To celebrate that, Nintendo has released the 7th Generation of Pokemon games for the Nintendo 3DS called Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon. Pokemon Sun and Moon will take place in the beautiful tropical Alola region which many are speculating that it will be the Pokemon version of Hawaii, with Professor Kukui looking very much like he’s ready to go surfing. Many concept arts also shows that Pokemon Centers and Poke Marts will receive a new update on their designs as well as new vehicles such as a pick up truck and ambulance. Only time will tell on how these concepts will actually be placed into the game.

The first three starter Pokemon in Sun and Moon

Another good news for Pokemon lovers is that Pokemon Sun and Moon will be compatible with Pokemon Bank, the online Pokemon storage system what was introduced back in Pokemon X and Y and Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Nintendo also promised that players will be able to transfer over their Pokemons from previous games to Sun and Moon. The 3 new starter Pokemon that will be introduced in Sun and Moon are called Rowlet, Litten and Popplio with a fresh new look and designs to not only the Pokemons, but the characters surrounding them as well. Nintendo has also announced the two main legendary Pokemons which will feature in Sun and Moon, and they look absolutely stunning to say the least. The first legendary Pokemon, Solgaleo, is a Psychic / Steel Pokemon that appears in the box art for Pokemon Sun. It resembles a large white lion with a menacing look, and is also known as the “Beast that devours the sun”. The second

legendary Pokemon is called Lunala, being the box art cover for Pokemon Moon, Lunala is a Psychic / Ghost Pokemon resembling a Bat with huge crescents at the edge of its wings and 2 stars below each of its wing. It's also known as “Beast that calls the moon”, where it spreads its wings to absorb light and will resemble a beautiful night sky.

Pokemon Sun and Moon promises to deliver the classic Pokemon game we all love with a fresh new look, and many new Pokemons to keep us glued to our Nintendo 3DS all day long. Pokemon Sun and Moon is set for release on November 18, 2016.

D ISH ONORE D 2

The sequel to 2012 BAFTA Game of the Year award winning action-adventure stealth game Dishonored by developers Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks, Dishonored 2 is one game that fans of the series have been waiting for. The main characters for the game will be Corvo Attano, the protagonist in the first game, and Emily Kaldwin, the former Empress of Dunwall who was dethroned, became an outlaw to society, and decided to follow the steps of her protector Corvo by training to become an assassin. The game takes place 15 years after the events of the first game, where gamers play as Emily Kaldwin in the prologue, and later choose to maintain Emily as the main character or instead opt for Corvo.

10

Gamehubs Magazine - August 2016

Dishonored 2 allows the hardcore player to finish the entire game stealthily and without killing a single enemy throughout the entire game, or by using a variety of skills and weapons to take down the enemies. Bethesda also mentioned that there will be a third path to be taken by players. Corvo and Emily will both go through the same missions but from different perspective and also with different skills. The upgrading system for the character skills have also been changed to a skill tree with many different ways to upgrade the skills, with Corvo will be retaining his old set of skills from the original game while Emily will be introduced with new skills such as the Shadow Walk which turns her into smoke, enabling her to move swiftly through gaps.

This was shown in the launch trailer where they first introduced Emily as a playable character. Besides the skills, players will also be introduced to an arsenal of weapons that would help players go through missions with some assistance, one particular item is the trap that Emily uses in the launch trailer against her enemies.

Emily Kaldwin and Corvo Attano. One word. “Badass.

With so much improvement to game technology since 2012, Dishonored 2 will be even more challenging compared to its predecessor with its upgraded AI, smarter enemies that will keep players on their feet during missions, and mistakes made will not be so forgiving. This is definitely one game to look out for by all gamers who enjoyed the first game. Dishonored 2 will be released on November 11 2016 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

TRAILER BREAKDOWN

GOD O F WAR P S4 Arguably the biggest surprise that Sony had in store for us gamers, God of War makes its triumphant return to the gaming scene. Kratos seems a lot more different than before, as he adopts a fatherly role and what appears to be a wild animal on his face. Oh wait no, that’s his beard. We break down the trailer for Kratos’s parental journey.

Change in View It looks like God of War has a change in camera angle, appearing to be more like other action games like Uncharted and Dead Space. This will bring a lot of changes in gameplay compared to previous iterations, as it wouldn’t be as effective with this type of angle.

Fisting…The Fun Way As Kratos becomes unarmed, he’s able to continue beating the living hell out of enemies by pummeling them with his fists. This adds another layer of depth to its combat system and allows you to be more versatile when facing enemies.

12

Gamehubs Magazine - August 2016

Footsteps, It’s Still Fresh As the 2 of them were hunting for food, the boy noted that there are footprints on the ground. Shortly after, an indicator stating ‘Knowledge Gained: Tracking +25” pops up. It looks like exploring the game’s world will be essential to strengthening the duo.

Ryuu Ga Waga Teki Wo Kurau As Kratos unleashes his Spartan Rage to bring the beast down, the boy accidentally shot the arrow unto Kratos. Instead of being angry, Kratos broke the ice to send the beast off the cliff, and instructs the boy to continue on his hunt.

Signs of Civilization The trailer begins with a boy playing with a couple of what appears to be action figures based on mythical lore. Despite living in a rundown place, this does indicate that in this current world, some form of civilization still exists

Swift Movements Traversing through the game’s landscape appears to be more seamless than ever, as Kratos hops over a broken tree without delay to catch up with the boy. This indicates multiple ways to cross terrains.

Dauthamunni Discovered As Kratos travels to new areas, a pop-up will appear to note of a new area being discovered. While a map is not shown in the trailer, it does suggest that when an area has been discovered, it will be added into your records, to your map most likely .

Your Mother’s Knife, It Belongs to You Now The boy is told to pick up his mother’s knife for a test by an unknown man. It’s also noted that the boy’s mother has taught him how to hunt, which indicates that he has been living a rough life for someone his age.

What Are You Doing? Due to not having as much L33T skillz as Hanzo, the boy screws up and scared the reindeer away. It looks like throughout the story, the boy will fail from time to time, and it’s up to Kratos to carry the team.

Assisted Aiming Another gameplay mechanic revealed during the trailer is when the boy is aiming his arrow at the reindeer. As Kratos is instructing the boy on how to fire an arrow, you will be the one controlling the aim. There may be more times where you have to control both characters in the final version.

By the Gods, Kratos is Alive! The unknown man walks out from the shadows, revealing Kratos…with a beard that makes Daniel Bryan proud. The scene from God of War 3’s postcredits scene is indeed canon, Kratos is still alive, and living as a mortal being.

Imbued with Ice Magic Instead of his signature ‘Blades of Athena’, Kratos utilizes an axe which he imbues with ice magic. Despite being mortal again, he’s clearly still able to deliver a can of whoopass.

The Journey that Humanizes Kratos As the boy successfully completes his hunt, Kratos is seen reaching his hand out to the boy but stopping just moments before he reaches him. This may be surprising as it shows Kratos having feelings, and it indicates that this journey will indeed humanize him.

I am Hungry, Feed Us Kratos says that he’s hungry and tosses a bow to the boy for him to hunt with. It’s a test to see the boy’s hunting proficiency as he will be the one deciding what to hunt, and where. This may be a sign that Kratos will be pushing the boy for certain tasks in the final version.

Throwable Weapons Weapons appear to have more use from the usual ass whooping, as Kratos is seen throwing his axe unto the enemy after a few seconds of aiming. The weapon is not lost as he’s able to pick it up moments later.

A New Beginning Kratos mentions to the boy, supposedly his son, that he’s ready for a new beginning. They then stare off into the distance as a dragon flies over them. What’s interesting to note here is that there’s a serpent-like creature hidden in the background slowly moving across the screen. Can you spot it?

TRAILER BREAKDOWN

RE SI DENT E V IL 7 The next Resident Evil game will mark the series return to its roots, horror. While the trailer does feel more like Silent Hills PT and Outlast, Capcom Japan’s producer Masachika Kawata did say that the trailer is a “tonal preview”. Let’s mix some herbs and break down the trailer known only as “Desolation”.

Signs of life We’re then shown a kitchen that has been used before. There are some plates, pans, and other kitchen utensils around with bits of food still on them. Something must’ve happened to the tenant shortly after a meal. Though, whatever ‘food’ there is left, it’s no longer consumable.

A non-vegetarian diet Whoever it was that lived here, it’s clear that they’ve developed a taste for flesh…maybe even rotten flesh. Various parts are shown, with intestines being the most prominent. However, it’s hard to determine if this is from a human or an animal.

14

Gamehubs Magazine - August 2016

Ghosts Sighted in Bayou This seemingly random newspaper headline gives a big clue to the game’s setting. The headline itself references a popular real-life haunted spot in Louisiana, where a lot of deaths occurred during the Battle of Bayou Bourbeux in the American Civil War.

Drag me to hell With just a few seconds, the trailer does show you, as the protagonist, being dragged by a mysterious figure. It’s implied that this ‘thing’ dragging you is an enemy, and if the plans have not changed, you will be captured at one point or another in the game.

For whom the phone rings We’re greeted with a ringing phone as the trailer starts. Who’s calling? Who’s the one receiving said call? And where is this place? Just a mere few seconds into the trailer and there’s already so many questions.

Let the bodies hit the floor Alongside some trash bags, there is a rotting carcass inside the house. What exactly is it? No idea, but it definitely doesn’t look human unless it has been disfigured beyond recognition.

Please help me The same person we saw dead with blood oozing from his mouth is shown again, except this time, you actually see him die in front of you and do nothing about it. Maybe you were restrained, maybe you were a given a choice to do something about it or not, but one thing’s for sure, the person who dealt the killing blow is indeed human.

She’s back As the trailer shifts into a new scene, we’re greeted with an old, worn down hallway inside a house, so old in fact that we can cobwebs and cracks. The camera moves further into the hallway as a mysterious voice says “She’s back.”

Let there be light A mysterious man appears from the window. He seems to be a friendly, so there may be times where characters will appear outta nowhere, but they’re not necessarily there to harm you… at least not yet.

A picture is worth a 1000 words Drawing to an end, it shows a picture, presumably of the people living in the mansion/house, being enveloped by some black veins. As the man’s side is the only one with a crack on it, he may be a key figure to the issue, and the veins seem to signify that this man has mutated…possibly due to a virus

WTF?! Just as the camera reaches the end of the hallway, this image shows up in a manner akin to a flashback. I’m assuming this is the “she” in “She’s back”.

Oh god, no! As the camera is navigating through the house, another mysterious figure appears as he walks past an open door… and disappears shortly after. A bit of a cliché but one thing’s for sure, that thing does not seem friendly.

A dark figure approaches Just before the final scene, a man in a wheelchair sitting in the dark is shown. As his face isn’t shown, there’s a chance that this is a character that Resident Evil fans know of. Which Resident Evil character uses a wheelchair? Only one name comes to mind for me, and that’s Oswell E. Spencer.

He’s dead In another flashback sequence, a man is shown lying on the ground with blood oozing from his mouth. Judging by the man’s clothes, he appears to be a person that you’re meant to interact with in the game in a non-hostile manner. He’s presumably dead.

Hello MTV, and welcome to my crib Then they shows the outside of a house/ mansion. Judging by the fences and the gate, this is no ordinary man’s place of living. Whoever that owns this place must either be some bigwig in a company or some rich guy. Both of those aren’t good when it comes to Resident Evil.

Where the journey begins The final bit of the trailer shows a man in front of the car, right in front of the mansion/house. It’s implied that this man is the protagonist of the game, as he’s about to step inside the place. One of the room’s lights is on, showing a silhouette of a person.

TRAILER BREAKDOWN

DE ATH STRANDING Auguries of Innocence

“I’m back”. The only 2 words that Hideo Kojima needed to get the crowd roaring in excitement at E3 2016. Death Stranding is his newest project, starring Norman Reedus of Walking Dead fame. It seems like Silent Hills will live on in this game but Kojima did say that this is an action game, not horror. Well, let’s take a look shall we?

Did a man just give birth? The character that Norman Reedus is playing wakes up to the sight of handcuffs and a newborn baby beside him. It appears that the newborn baby still has an umbilical cord attached…to what exactly is not really shown.

The seafood buffet has quite a variety As the baby handprints move further up the beach, the camera starts showing the carcasses of a large number of fishes on the surface of the beach. This seems to be a post-apocalyptic world where life is hard to sustain.

The trailer begins with an excerpt from William Blake’s Auguries of Innocence. It can be interpreted as any little part of the world, be it a grain of sand or even a wild flower, contains some form of greater cosmic truth, which you can look at with enough energy and imagination.

The phantom handprints

The embrace

The mysterious handprints appeared more often and seem to be going after the baby, as Norman Reedus picks the baby up. Something or someone clearly wants that baby.

DIY 6-pack abs?

Norman picks up the baby, hugs it, and begins to cry. The emotion seems to be a mix of “being glad to see the baby again” and “I’m so lost, I have no idea what to do anymore”.

It’s like watching a tennis game

Just when it looks like Norman’s abs are so well-defined, it looks stitch marks. Since it was highlighted in the trailer, it seems to indicate that the character has been horribly injured in the past, which will definitely play a big part in his backstory.

When Norman stood up, the camera focuses on his face, where he started to look left and right at a rapid pace. It looks like a person watching a tennis game. It’s clear that something is happening in front of him, but what could it be?

Seafood buffet anyone? The Kojima Production’s credit appears in front of a countless amount of dead crabs. Most of the other crabs are lacking colour, except for just one. If the title isn’t enough of an indication, you can definitely see from here that death is an important theme in the game.

Hallucination or illusion? As Norman embraces the baby, a sudden change of emotion can be seen on his face as he stops crying and looks at where the baby was, only to see that it has mysteriously disappeared. For some strange reason, Norman’s body is suddenly covered with handprints.

Whose handprints are these? As the camera begins to move forward, handprints started to emerge on the sandy surface of the beach. It could be an invisible being, or physical representation of a path that someone took.

I don’t think fossil fuels are produced that quickly As Norman stares at his hands, only some pitch black liquid can be seen where the baby was. Was it an illusion? Or was he just hallucinating?

Dat ass tho The camera shifts to behind Norman Reedus, as he stares into the sky where 5 humanoid figures are seen floating. These figures could either be the one responsible for the apocalypse, or trying to salvage whatever remains of the world.

Someone had a wild night. If waking up naked isn’t bad enough, how about naked and handcuffs on you? This either shows that he was caught and this was the character’s attempt to escape, or a metaphor that a character is chained to something that he simply can’t leave behind.

Smaller handprints Norman begins to realize that small, baby-sized handprints are beginning to form on his knees and move unto the surface of the beach. Is the mysterious figure responsible for the previous handprints able to turn people invisible? Or is something trying to guide him?

The finale As the camera begins to tilt upwards, the 5 humanoid figures disappear and the title of the game appears. Judging by the word “stranding”, there appears to be 2 meanings. One is being alone, which explains Norman’s situation, and the other being the psychological meaning; connecting. The latter would be the reason why the logo seems have a line drawn downwards, as that line is trying to connect with something.

ELECTRONIC ENTERTAINMENT EXPO:

E3 2016 THE SHOW OF SHOWS, THE ULTIMATE GAMING EXPO! What is considered as the Wrestlemania and Superbowl for gamers, E3 2016, is over and done with. Expectations were high for this year’s E3, as people began to wonder what videogame developers and companies have in store for the masses for the foreseeable future.

IF YOU DIDN’T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, HERE ARE SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF WHAT WENT DOWN.

Preview of Battlefield 1 - theverge.com

On the 1st day of E3 2016, Electronic Arts showed off a number of games, most notably Titanfall 2, Star Wars, FIFA 17, and the first game produced in the ‘EA Originals’ line-up, a game simply known as “Fe”. With Titanfall 2, EA confirms that there will be a single player campaign for the game, where the story will focus on the bond between pilot and mech, where your mech will have a personality. It’s also shown in a multiplayer trailer that pilots’ have new skills, and that combat using a Titan is more seamless than ever. There’s still a lot of mystery surrounding Battlefield 1, but they did have a live multiplayer demo for the game at E3, with notable celebrities like Snoop Dogg, Jamie Foxx, and Zac Efron taking part in the game. One thing’s for sure, destructible environments are back. It was mentioned that there will be a new Star Wars Battlefront game coming in 2017. Moreover, there will be 2 new Star Wars games, featuring a fresh narrative with new and original characters, currently in the making by Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment as well as Visceral Games. It looks like the gaming industry has not given up on Star Wars just yet.

Preview of EA Originals - Fe

FIFA 17 will introduce a story mode called ‘The Journey’, a narrative that focuses on footballer Alex Hunter and his English Premier League experience. Surprisingly, former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho made an appearance during the FIFA 17 presentation bit. Then we have ‘Fe’, which is the first game produced under “EA Originals”; an initiative by EA to support indie developers with interesting ideas to gain funding for videogame development. It’s an adorable looking game where everything is naturally connected, and something/someone is trying to destroy the complicated balance of nature and life. The game seems to focus more on interacting with the environment as opposed to directly engaging other creatures in physical combat.

Preview of Quake Champions - youtube.com

Quake. Is. Back. But it may not be the return you're looking for. It seems that the new Quake will be taking a class/hero-based approach, with each character having their own distinctive abilities. Some of those unique abilities include a wall-hack vision thing, as shown in the cinematic trailer but even then, not much is known about it. There’s also a new Prey game coming but it's not Prey 2. It’s reimagining of Prey with a "psychological twist" that we'll be getting. Made by Dishonored's Arkane Studios, you'll play as Morgan Yu, who's the "subject of morally dubious experiments designed to improve the human race." You'll wake up aboard a space station in the year 2032 and must uncover its hidden secrets while being hunted by the mysterious alien force that has taken over. Luckily, you'll have weapons and "mindbending abilities" to use. The game will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2017.

Workshop on the other hand will let you build your own vault (experiment on its dwellers) while Nuka World... well, not sure about the last one, but maybe it'll involve defending the postapocalyptic world's biggest supply of Nuka-Cola against giant insects. And then comes what is arguably the most notable part about Bethesda’s E3 presentation, DOOM and Fallout 4 will be playable in VR. That’s right; both of those games will be getting the VR treatment, with Fallout 4 already confirmed for the HTC Vive some time next year.

Speaking of Arcane Studios, Bethesda showed off some gameplay footage of Dishonored 2. Emily Kaldwin's got some fancy, yet nasty powers. In addition to fleshy humans, there'll also be automatons to face as well. Dishonored 2 looks grittier than its predecessor, particularly in the outdoor environments, but it ultimately retains the exaggerated overall cartoony look. The already-released Fallout 4 will be getting some new addons: Contraptions Workshop, Vault-Tec Workshop and NukaWorld. Contraptions Workshop will let you build stuff like weapon and armour racks, elevators and other stuff. Vault-Tec

MICROSOFT XBOX Just as the rumours we’ve picked up mentioned, Microsoft will be releasing not one, but 2 new Xbox One consoles. The first is the smaller and slightly stronger Xbox One S that will be coming out by the end of this year. The second is essentially the Xbox One on steroids known only as Project Scorpio. This beastly iteration of the console will be able to play all games in 4K resolution, as well as support VR gaming. It also looks like Microsoft is trying to break the barriers that separate the PC and the Xbox One in terms of gaming. Most of the games that are currently being developed by Microsoft will be playable on both the Xbox One and Windows 10. Microsoft’s grand ambition here is to create something like Netflix, where you can play Microsoft games anywhere, be it on your phones, tablets, laptops, or other gadgets in the future. Dead Rising 4 was announced at E3 2016, featuring the return of the original Dead Rising protagonist Frank West, along with plenty of mysteries surrounding the game. From the trailer, it looks like the game has somewhat of a Christmas theme to it, as Frank West is shown mowing down hordes of the infected near a Christmas tree while ‘Jingle Bell Rocks’ is playing in a background. The game transitions from inside of what seems to be the Palisades Mall to a large open world so it looks like we will retain the open world experience similar to Dead Rising 3. You didn't expect an Xbox E3 presentation without Halo, did you? This isn’t your standard Halo game as this is a real-time strategy game, and it’s set right after the events of Halo 5: Guardians. While we're still quite some time away from the official release of Halo Wars 2, February 2017 to be exact, the game’s open beta recently ended. Apparently, they're trying to do something like Steam's early access, where publishers give the fans a chance to try while the game is being developed. Ghost Recon Wildlands - Youtube.com

Ubisoft had an interesting line-up to show off at E3 2016. If you've played Far Cry Primal and enjoyed it, then Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands would be a game that you should look forward to. Ghost Recon Wildlands is a military shooter set in Bolivia, where the head of a powerful drug cartel known as 'The King' rules with an iron fist. In order to take down this underground empire, the "Ghosts" are sent it. Question is, will it be taken down stealthily, or by force?

If you're a fan of the hack-everything-using-a-smartphone game, you're going to be a happy kid. Ubisoft has officially announced Hacker's Creed 2...I mean Watch Dogs 2, and it will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. If you were to pre-order the game, you will be getting an extra mission called "Zodiac Killer", where an unwanted ghost of San Francisco's past resurfaces after 50 years. The extra mission will land you an exclusive outfit for your troubles.

After an outpouring of positive reviews for South Park: The Stick of Truth, it's no surprise that another South Park game is coming. South Park: The Fractured But Whole is a turn-based RPG, much like its predecessor...even the farting thing. I mean come on, you literally have a fart that can rip through the very fabric of time and space. The game follows a superherobased storyline, with characters appearing as their superhero/ supervillain alter ego, with Eric Cartman as “The Coon” and Kenny McCormick as “Mysterion”. Always wanted to be like Captain Jean-Luc Picard and man the bridge of the SS Enterprise? If so, be prepared to boldly go where no man has gone before with Star Trek: Bridge Crew. This game is Ubisoft’s multiplayer virtual reality take on a realtime and social Star Trek experience. Players will have to work together to succeed in missions, with up to 4 players clad in VR gear taking on various roles, from captain to engineer.

Kratos in God of War 4 - Youtube.com

Not to be upstaged by Microsoft, Sony had arguable the best presentation for E3 2016. Beginning with the biggest surprise, a new God of War game is coming to the PlayStation 4. Developed by Sony's Santa Monica Studio (SMS), the trailer features Kratos with a beard that would make Daniel Bryan proud, along with his son, whom Kratos is giving survival lessons to. Not much is known about the son, and the mother is still unknown at the moment.

Final Fantasy XV - vpdaily.com

What is considered as the "Mighty No. 9" of Silent Hills, Death Stranding is Kojima's take on Silent Hills, albeit in a different name. Much like the cancelled Silent Hills PT game we've seen before, this game stars Norman Reedus. The trailer shows Norman’s character hugging a baby, only to find the baby disappearing in his hands and leaving some form of black ooze behind. He then looks into the sunset as the camera pans to show what appears to be a rather ominous desert island.

As we look forward to September 30th for the release of Final Fantasy XV, another bombshell has been dropped. During Sony's conference, it was announced that Final Fantasy XV will be playable in VR. In the VR version, you will be playing as Prompto, one of Noctis' companions. There's no word yet on whether the game will be fully played in VR, or if it's a PS VR exclusive as the Final Fantasy XV is also slated for release on the Xbox One. We'll just have to wait and see.

In a very surprising twist, Sony announced the official return of former mascot Crash Bandicoot. While he won’t be getting his own game, he will be appearing in Skylanders Imaginators as a playable character. Furthermore, Crash’s first 3 games will be remastered in glorious high definition graphics. As much as I want a brand new Crash game, I would definitely pick the remastered version over a crappy reboot.

And it looks like the Resident Evil series is truly going back to its horror roots, as Resident Evil 7 seems to adopt a rather dark and sinister air for its trailer, akin to Silent Hills PT. Resident Evil 7 will be playable using the PS VR, and it's coming to the PlayStation 4 on January 24th, 2017. PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to get a taste of the game right now via an exclusive demo!

NINTENDO Surprisingly, Nintendo didn’t have that much to show off in E3 2016, but that doesn’t mean that it didn’t leave an impact. They’ve announced a new Legend of Zelda game, one that has been the topic of internet rumours for a while, and gave it the official name of “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The explorable world in the game is surprisingly huge, much larger compared to past Zelda titles. Breath of the Wild will vastly differ from its previous games, as it will not have any towns. There will however be stray NPCs to be encountered, it's just that there won’t be towns or villages in the traditional sense. It was also stated that Link will not have a partner character in the game. Breath of the Wild will be released for the Wii U and the upcoming NX console, and it's said that there will be no differences in both versions.

The latest entry in the Paper Mario series, Paper Mario: Color Splash, has a confirmed release date. The game will be coming to the Wii U on October 7th, 2016. Paper Mario: Color Splash sees Mario on Prism Island, which has been drained of its colour. Mario will use his paint hammer to restore color to the island. There’s still a lot of details about the game that have not been released yet so you’ll have to keep your eyes and ears peeled out on the game. Nintendo also shed light on the upcoming Pokémon Sun/ Moon, revealing 3 new Pokémons; the Normal and Flyingtype Woodpecker Pokémon Pikipek, the Normal-type and constantly hungry Yungoos, and the Larvae Pokémon Grubbin. Apparently, there will be a new combat system for the game known as “Battle Royal” for both Sun and Moon. Instead of the usual 1-on-1 match, you’ll have 4 players fighting simultaneously, with each player ranked according to their Pokémon’s health. The battle ends when one Pokémon faints. Notably absent from Nintendo is their upcoming NX console, which is said to be released on March of next year. This is a sign that Nintendo wants to keep it a surprise, and that we can expect more from them towards the end of the year. Overall, this year’s E3 is pretty awesome, and the gaming industry is looking pretty solid for the foreseeable future.

SHANGHAI’S MEGA GAME SHOW

GAMEHUBS REPORTS: FINDINGS IN CHINAJOY 2016

Gamehubs was recently invited to attend ChinaJoy 2016 in Shanghai as part of the Malaysian Pavilion organised by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) last month. ChinaJoy is an inaugural event in China and more specifically defined as the China Digital Entertainment Expo & Conference, held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center and fully utilising all 17-column-free exhibition halls covering over 200000sqm of indoor space!

Gamehubs Magazine - August 2016

27

INTERNATIONAL EVENTS

The expo and conference consist of Business-to-Business trade shows, Business-to-Consumer shows and held in tandem with the World Mobile Game Conference & Expo (WMGC) - all converging into one clustered megaplex as local and international gaming companies leverage on the city’s geographical advantages and its huge gaming population. In order to maximally attract both domestic and overseas spectators and the public including game industry practitioners to participate in the fourday long celebration of video games, all of the exhibits were arguably quite impressive, if not intensely massive. In our case as we peruse the Businessto-Consumer exhibits, which are most popular with the public and local gamers, they were an absolute eye-opener as international game companies can directly interact and conduct game demonstrations for gamers and the public while enhancing their foothold in the Chinese market by revealing exclusive content, push for downloads and player adoption or even conduct market surveys, all equally and extremely valuable opportunities. The game shows in the B2C segment also include on-stage giveaways, dance performances, cosplay competitions, e-Sports tournaments and VR demonstrations.

BLIZZARD'S PRESENTATION STAGE

The Business-to-Business expo on the other hand becomes a invaluable bridge where technology corporations, advertising agencies, investment companies and last but not least game developers and publishers can come together to conduct meetings and learn about each other’s business and industrial offerings in order to drive partnerships and communication between domestic and foreign game companies in a wide range of business decisions. The notable companies and titles we encountered during our rather hefty walks across exhibition halls were Blizzard and its IPs such as World of Warcraft, Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch, Ragnarok Online, China’s Tencent Interactive Entertainment, Perfect World, Square Enix and Final Fantasy, Alienware, World Cyber Arena, Snail, Minecraft, and Bandai Namco Shanghai and its games such as Sword Art Online, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Gundam and One Piece.

ENDEAVOUR TO HAVE FUN:

BUILD YOUR GAMING CAREER WITH FUNDEAVOUR Making games is hard; so is playing them. Just as developers have to compete with their peers to draw interest and an audience to their creations, YouTubers and streamers have to contest amongst themselves to attract views and followers to their content. Then there is the matter of money, to spend on quality equipment - whether it is to be able to run the latest games at 60FPS or to produce high quality videos - or for the aspiring eSports player to head to tournaments that aren't taking place in town. And last but not least, how does one, with hopes to build a career on gaming, know where and how to begin?

Michelle Tan - Founder of Fundeavour

To answer these questions, and to help those in pursuit of a gaming career, Fundeavour was created. "Our vision is to help as many gamers as we can to benefit from doing what they love - playing games," said Fundeavour co-founder Lylia, who goes by the name of Michelle Tan in the non-gaming world. "We want to give eSports players, YouTubers and livestreamers a headstart in trying to make it in their respective fields and we're doing this through three pillars: learning (via our Adventures), discovery (via additional exposure that we provide through our Adventure system) and rewards (free gear to help them produce better videos/streams, or play a whole lot better)." Let's talk a bit more about the Adventures. They consist of questions that you can opt to answer. One of the simplest adventures simply asks you to select your age range in a multiple-choice format. Another contains several questions, one of which provide tips on improving your game performance, followed by asking you which tip you like the most and why. Completing Adventures will reward you with XP and GP. Players who accumulate the most XP will be guaranteed a place in the Hall of Heroes – we'll get to that in just a bit. GP is used to redeem rewards, once per day. Currently there are 3 prizes that can be redeemed: A white SADES Moyu Gaming Headset, SADES SA-608 Gaming Earphones and Steam Wallet Codes worth 10 USD each. The other is an application to be one of two reviewers for two of SADES' latest gaming peripherals – which the reviewers will also get to keep.

Now, about the Hall of Heroes. Accumulate enough XP and you'll be one of those featured on it, with your profile promoted to everyone on the site. The top 3 of each month get an additional benefit in the form of an exclusive interview with Gamer Malaya, thus exposing them to another sizeable audience. And that's the aim of this; to provide exposure for players. Knowledge is also important, perhaps more so than having top-class peripherals. Fundeavour allows aspiring YouTubers, streamers and competitive players to learn and collaborate with other like-minded people. Fundeavour isn't just a brand after all – it's a community, and those in it can always learn from one another. And if you're not in the mood to interact with others all the time, its 'Adventures' also offer helpful tips to help you on your path. Fundeavour isn't a quick ticket to becoming the next PewDiePie or Dendi. But it is there to help bring you closer to that world they reside in, to make the journey there easier, even if it's just a little bit. That's why Michelle created Fundeavour.

"I created Fundeavour because I've been there - I've been a streamer just like you, a wannabe competitive player just like you, and I've dreamed of getting a gaming career smile emoticon. Every year, though, the standards keep getting higher and higher, and I decided to be the one to try and create opportunities for my fellow gamers so that they can pursue their dreams, as well." MOBILE GAME ASIA 2016 KUALA LUMPUR

BRINGING THE LOCAL GAMING DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY TO THE GLOBAL STAGE. In July, the Global Mobile Game Confederation (GMGC) hosted Mobile Game Asia 2016 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event aims to connect the global gaming industry with local developers, which is in line with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation’s (MDEC’s) #MYGAMEON initiative, in which the aim is to make Malaysia as a major hub for games development. This initiative is backed by the Malaysian Prime Minister as well as some relevant ministries, with hopes to accelerate the local games development industry. This initiative is not specifically just for mobile games, but for videogames in general. The Malaysian government is keen on fostering the growth of the Malaysian talent pool, not only to succeed within the land, but internationally as well.

Registration Booth

So far, the initiative has seen success, such as with Passion Republic, Lemon Sky, and Streamline Studios being a part of developing AAA games like Uncharted 4, Street Fighter V, Final Fantasy XV, and more. The folks over at MDEC firmly believe that Mobile Game Asia will be the start of something huge in the mobile game scene, enabling local developers to reach out for collaborations, partnerships, and potentially more. Of course, where there’s gaming, there’s ‘Team Gamehubs’, as we were there to see what went down at Mobile Game Asia 2016. There were 3 major parts of the event, a public exhibition by local developers, the Indie Pitch Arena, and the Main Stage.

Gamehubs Magazine - August 2016

Public Exhibition

For the public exhibition, we saw local Malaysian developers show off their own mobile game creations. People were encouraged to try their game out, with some developers showing older builds of their current games to let people know what has changed from initial development stages. Event-goers could take the time to actually get to know the developers themselves, get a sneak peek into what they have planned for the future, or even just duel them at their own games. While giving a public showcase of their games, these developers are anxiously awaiting for their turn in the Indie Pitch Arena, where they will be pitching their games to a panel of judges. The aim of the pitch is to attract potential investors, partners, and get a chance to enter the ‘Gaming Top Talent’ contest, where they stand a chance to win over 1 Million USD.

Weyrdworks' Public Exhibition Booth

The Indie Pitch Arena saw Weyrdworks rise as the grand prize winner with their latest mobile game, Super Steampuff, which is currently available in iOS devices and will be coming to Android and PC via Steam. Kurechii Studios were very close as the runnerup, with their mobile game Postknight. Then we have the Main Stage, where industry experts share their thoughts on the business. With various keynote speeches by publishers like Gameview as well as app marketing/analytics figures like Valuepotion, anyone looking into developing or publishing games could learn a thing or two here. You’re not just learning like a university lecture, you get to hear people’s experiences in the industry. The future of videogames in Malaysia looks very promising, and it looks like both MDEC and GMGC is definitely steering Malaysia in the right direction. The next time you see a hot game trending, whether it is in mobile, console, or even PC, it might just be from Malaysia.

WE ARE THE

PASSION REPUBLIC

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End releases tomorrow and it could probably be one of the PlayStation 4's most successful titles in 2016. It will be the franchise's final instalment, following the adventures of Nathan Drake and his entourage of relic hunters amidst spectacular visuals that every PS4 gamer can feast their eyes on. Talking about visuals, the development of Uncharted 4 is not without its quirks. Not long ago, Uncharted series developer Naughty dog was short of time toward the final phases of Uncharted 4's development and they had to seek out a company who can take on some urgent work as the game's release was running behind schedule. As luck would have it, the firefight was eventually contracted to Passion Republic, a fellow Malaysian studio whose portfolio in games development includes Batman: Arkham Knight, Mortal Kombat X, Dark Souls III and Shadow Of The Beast among others.

Gamehubs Magazine - August 2016

INDUSTRY

Passion Republic became an instant help to Naughty Dog, contributing their artistic skills and talents to fabricate digital in-game assets such as artifacts, relics and treasures, which you may come across in the game very soon. Ng Aik Sern, president of Passion Republic shared that they had only six weeks to create about a hundred artifacts, which they managed eventually and it was to the delight of Naughty Dog's art director Erick Pangilinan who maintained close contact with Ng and his team of artists throughout the timeline. Along this process, Passion Republic was also aided by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) in seeing through that the opportunity is upheld.

Hasnul Hadi Samsudin, Director of Creative Content and Technologies of MDEC, said: “To the Malaysians who aspire to be a video games developer, there are multiple avenues that you can explore locally to jumpstart that dream. Developing video games in Malaysia is already a reality despite the low-profile presence. It is to our hope too that Malaysia will become a new hub for video games development on the global front.

40

Gamehubs Magazine - August 2016

In the sharing session, Naito Arata, Product

Manager of Sony Interactive Entertainment Singapore also shared his views on how important Malaysian talents are in the video games industry:

“We recognize that there are an increasing number of talented game studios in South East Asia region, particularly in Malaysia. The case of Passion Republic’s involvement in “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” is a fine example of top-notch talents in Malaysia contributing to the development of our stellar titles. We hope this trend will continue, so that gamers in South East Asia are not only on the receiving end of good contents, but also play a part in producing PlayStation contents together with us.”

And there you have it folks, homegrown talents playing a part in making a AAA game a reality. If you ever hear your friends say that Malaysians have never contributed to the gaming industry, or anything similar to that sentiment, take this magazine article and slap them right in the face with it.

01. BEFORE YOU PRESS ‘START’

MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

Just because you like playing video games, doesn't mean you're going to like 'content creation'. Content creation involves planning, video editing, learning software, and a ton more while you cater to an online audience. If you’re not interested in learning a lot of new things, then you're going to get demotivated or bored really fast.

DETERMINE YOUR MAIN QUEST

Many people start posting things online because they want to 'get famous'. While that’s not wrong, understanding what you want would help. You could be popular for being smart, funny, talented, inspiring, or being really good at explaining things. Decide what you want people to think when they think of you.

PICK YOUR HEROES

Choose two or three streamers or YouTubers that you like and look into what makes them your favourites. Is it their personalities, engaging commentary, or good sense of design? Take elements from your inspirations and combine them into a new channel unique to you. Learn from their examples so you’re not going in blind.

Don’t let it discourage you as sometimes, it just takes time and dedication to improving your skills and the content you create. Soon, you’ll have your first 100 subscribers and the more you grow, the faster you’ll grow.

The legal world of online content creation is in turmoil and no one really knows how it's going to go. XSplit (USD5 - RM20 / month) You have two main choices – Open Broadcaster Software or XSplit. Both have plenty of options, can be used with YouTube and Twitch, and can green screen, but you should probably start with OBS since it’s free then compare both and see which you prefer.

The Blue Snowball is a simple plug and play USB device that records just as well as any affordable studio mic. You can have it up to 8 to 10 inches away from your face so it doesn't actually have to be on camera. If you’ve already got your own audio setup, that should work well too.

Recommended: The cheapest piece of green fabric you can find Cost: RM5 a metre; Lights – enough to look great!

The Logitech C920 is a cost-effective piece of hardware but it has its cons. Your settings sometimes reset and if it starts to lag, limiting the webcam’s resolution to 720p should fix it. However, the image it captures is clear and software settings are customisable enough to get your green screen perfect.

Green screening is easier than you think! You can make do with a cloth taped to a wall behind you. For an effective green screen, lighting needs to be very consistent so you should rely on soft artificial lighting. Get as many bulbs as it takes for your face and the green screen to look good.

SHOULD YOU DROP EVERYTHING TO CHASE YOUR DREAMS?

Spend a few hours a day building your dream and when your dream starts to pay the bills consistently, then consider quitting your day job. FIELD TRIP

A Look Into :

Why Are Video Games so Interesting?

Within the futuristic setting of Odaiba, Tokyo, in the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation known as Miraikan, a very special exhibition has been taking place since March 2016. It's unlike any other exhibition before, because this one is fully dedicated in knowing why video games are so interesting. It's pretty much the tagline for the exhibition anyways! Game On is actually part of a tour that originally started in the U.K. in 2002, and has since attracted over two million visitors so far. This is the first time it's being held in Japan, and it isn't holding back with what it has to offer. What makes this exhibition stand out from every other museum exhibition is that it welcomes you to try out the games. The best part? There are over 120 games to play, and it ranges from the very first few video games using consoles that are now known as relics, to the latest innovation in gaming such as virtual reality which is a Japan exclusive.

46

Gamehubs Magazine - August 2016

The entire goal of the exhibition is to make think about the social and cultural impact of computer games, especially as they are becoming more integrated into our world and our future, thus the tagline, "Why are video games so interesting?" You can even buy a book on it, but the exhibition in Odaiba only sells the Japanese version. The exhibition will give you a reason to bring your kids if you're a gamer and would like your child to experience what games in the past used to be like. Classics like Pacman and Missiles Command, Space Invaders and Marble Madness, are all available for play for adults and children alike. For children, it's a new game to learn, for adults, it's a trip down a road of nostalgia, or maybe even getting to know a world of gaming they may have missed too! You can even try out games from various consoles, from the first Playstation and Xbox, to even Atari and more, so if you have never tried out those consoles and how they worked, or you may have owned one as a kid and missed it, this exhibition will bring out all the memories for sure.

Gamehubs Magazine - August 2016

47

FIELD TRIP Featured Event

Those who wish to try out the Virtual Reality will need to wait in line but it is worth it as you get to try on the Playstation Virtual Reality set and try on first hand how the future of gaming looks like. Another Japan exclusive display is for Minecraft fans, where gamers can explore a Minecraft version of Miraikan and explore the place for treasure. It took a lot of effort to leave the place when there are so manygames to try, but alas reality calls. Overall it is a great place to try first-hand how much gaming has changed over the course of the years rather than just see it from afar, and it reminds you how important gaming is as not only a form of entertainment but as part of our culture as well. Let’s hope this comes down to Malaysia someday!

LEVEL UP?

ARE UPGRADED CONSOLES BEST FOR BUSINESS? FEATURING THE (UNOFFICIALLY NAMED) PLAYSTATION NEO AND XBOX TWO

What if these companies want to extend the lifespan of their consoles? The one way that companies, most notably Sony and Microsoft, are trying to do that is by releasing a newer version of the current console with stronger hardware. With a beefier processor and upgraded graphical capabilities, they’ve essentially future-proofed their consoles to a certain extent. However, is it actually a good idea to do that?

Gamehubs Magazine - August 2016

49

TECHNOLOGY Local News

If a newer version of an existing console were to appear, the older version will most likely have discounted prices for a variety of reasons, with the most common reason being to finish up leftover stock. If someone wants to buy that console, should he opt for the old or the new one? If the choice boils down to just price, the answer is simple, but when you factor in videogame support, peripherals, and other things, it can be very complicated. For example, would there be any games that will only be playable on the newer console or would the 2 of them be able to play the same games, but the newer version will give a better experience? Would there be any peripherals that will only work with the newer console?

In the case of Sony, GiantBomb reported that there will not be any PlayStation NEO-only games, and that this will apply to all games released from now until the end of the PlayStation 4’s lifecycle. That’s all fine and dandy what about the PlayStation VR? YIBADA reported that an anonymous Chief Technical Officer from an unknown gaming company said the reason why the PlayStation NEO exists is because using the PlayStation VR on the original PlayStation 4 console is “awful”. As many of you know, these VR headsets require quite a powerful system to run, which makes the statement seem plausible. However, Just Add Water’s CEO, Steward Gilray, debunked this statement. In a report by WCCFTech, Gilray mentioned that while the NEO is able to give a smoother experience with the headset, the experience given by the NEO and the original console will be “largely the same”. In the case of Xbox One however, it may not be the same. There are rumours circulating that the newer Xbox One console will be much stronger, so much so that it will feel like Microsoft is releasing a completely new console altogether.

If it’s true, it’s going to be tough for the developers as they need to cater to two systems with a difference in power similar to comparing Nando’s Mild sauce and Extra Hot sauce. If the consumers can choose between the older and newer versions without missing out, then that would be a great business decision as it gives them more purchase options, and people can actually buy according to their needs. For the company itself, it might not be such a great decision.

WHY UPGRADING MIGHT NOT BE A GREAT DECISION? It is a known fact that Sony is selling the PlayStation 4 at a loss. According to Gamespot in 2013, Sony is losing $60 per console sold, but they’re making money from the PlayStation 4 games. This isn’t a surprise as the PlayStation 4’s hardware is a bit costly but as time goes by, the cost of making the console will be cheaper. If Sony were to build a stronger PlayStation 4 console, it would mean that they will need to opt for stronger hardware, and therefore, the costs will increase and Sony might continue to incur losses. While it is a smart move by Sony to sell it as cheap as possible in order to get as many consumers to adopt their console as possible, but there’s only so much the company can afford to lose. If we assume that the $60 losses is consistent with every console sold and add that to the fact that 40 million units of the PlayStation 4 have been sold, that’s a $4.2 billion loss.

In other words, Sony is making quite a gamble if this upgraded console becomes a reality. Personally, I don’t feel the need for current-generation consoles to upgrade. The loading times aren’t horrendous and the games still look pretty damn great in Full HD. 4K resolution hasn’t been widely adopted across the globe yet, especially since the hardware required to run it is quite pricey, so what’s the point of rushing for stronger hardware? A console’s appeal is in its simplicity. Don’t turn it into a PC, just let it run its course. Sure, you’ll hear the so-called PC Master Race claim that their computers can run games in ultra-high settings and 60 FPS or more, but does it really matter? If there’s anything that Nintendo has proved to us in the past, is that the key to success doesn’t lie in the hardware, it’s in the game itself. What’s the point of a good looking game if it’s not enjoyable?

TIPS & TRICKS

TO BE A POKÉMON MASTER Some Essentials Before You Catch'em All With the recent release of the Pokémon Go in Malaysia, you can literally see the Pokémon fever sweep across the land turning the entire nation into Pokémon hunters. But before you head to the streets hunting for Pokémon, there are a few neat tips and tricks that might be useful to you. Due to the lack of any comprehensive guide or manual within the game, many of the game's core mechanics are surprisingly vague and never clearly explained. Some of these tips are things you should know before you even start playing and other will hopefully just explain the mechanics more clearly and thus smoothening learning curve, making the game a much more enjoyable experience.

Starting Out Picking Pikachu as your first Pokémon

source: www.innogizmo.com

Just when you're about to embark on your Pokémon adventure, you are given 3 starters for you to catch. Chamander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur will pop up on your map and all you need to do is pick none of them. You physically have to run away from them and the game sort of jumps them over to try to follow you. But when you do this often enough (usually around the 4th time), lo and behold a Pikachu has joined the party! Don't worry about missing out on your starter Pokémons if you picked Pikachu, you can easily catch them from the wild or get them from hatching eggs.

Almost nothing tracks when the app is closed Probably one of the biggest factors why Pokemon Go is such battery guzzler is the app only starts tracking when it's actually open. The game will not alert you when Pokemon or Pokéstops are nearby and it will not count your steps. However, what it does do is while closed is drain your consumables such as incense and lures. So you literally have to walk around with your phone in your hand paying close attention to the screen or listening to in-game sounds. This is most likely a marketing strategy by Niantic trying to sell the $35 wristbands that buzz when Pokémon are nearby.

Improving Catch Rates

Know your Pokémon's catch rate

www.gamereactor.eu

Razz Berry, Great Balls, and Ultra Balls To improve your catch rate, you can use several in-game items. The Razz Berry is an item that you can use to feed it to the Pokémon. This will make them slightly easier to catch. Note that the Razz Berry only works as a one-off thing, so if your Pokémon escapes from the Pokeball you will need to feed it again. Now for the type of Pokeball you're going to use. Pokeballs are the basic and weakest, Great Balls are stronger and Ultra Balls are the strongest of them all. Try switching as you see fit according to the difficulty of your Pokémon.

When encountering Pokemon in the wild, you need to know what you're up against and then you can strategize and plan accordingly the best way to secure the catch. A Pokemon's catch difficulty can be identified by the colour of the inner ring when you're about to toss your Pokeball. Green represents an almost sure catch, Yellow present a bit of a challenge, while Red is the hardest of them all and usually found on very rare Pokémon.

Incense and Lure Modules

There are more things you can do to further improve your catch rate. Throwing curveballs will grant you slight improvement on your catch rate and a small exp bonus too if you manage to secure the catch with it. Also, getting a Nice, Great or Excellent shot will provide a small boost in catch rate as well. Incense is a great way to increase your Pokémon encounters as it draws in Pokémon around you to your location for 30 minutes. For you to get the best out of your incense, make sure you only use it when you are roaming. Using an Incense while staying still will only provide 1 Pokémon every 5 minutes while roaming will provide a Pokémon every 200m travelled. It’s also a great way to attract different kinds of Pokémon from different areas to you. If you’re stuck in one place however, try to stay near a Pokéstop, there’s a good chance for a Lure Module to be activated drawing Pokémon to your location without you having to roam around. Lure Modules affects all nearby players while incense only draws encounters to you.

Levelling & Evolving

Choose Your Evee-lution Sparky

Rainer

Pyro

Paying homage to the Evee-themed episode of the Pokémon animated series, naming your Evee Sparky, Pyro or Rainer will produce Jolteon, Flareon or Vaporeon respectively. You don't have hunt for Vaporeon or hope your Evee evolves into one anymore with this 'life hack'. Be warned, this trick has been known to have a small chance of failing, so it is not entirely full proof. Do not be surprised if doesn't work for you.

Mass Evolving for Exp

54

Gamehubs Magazine - August 2016

Frustrated at all the Pidgeys and Ratatas that keep popping up instead of more rare Pokémons? Don't underestimate the power of the little guys. What you're looking at is the key to boosting your level in just a few minutes. This strategy involves amassing common Pokémons such as Pidgeys, Ratatas, Caterpies and Weedles and mass evolving them to gain tons of exp. Every time you evolve a Pokémon, you will be granted 500 Exp no matter the rarity. This use of extra candy costs you nothing of significance and will really contribute a bulk to your leveling experience. For maximum effect, pair them with a Lucky Egg and you will get double the exp yield. That's 1000 exp per evolution!

Know Which Pokémon to invest in

source: www.ifunny.co

Pumping your Pokémon with Stardust seems very tempting but it is important to know that you do not over-commit - especially in the lower levels. For example, pumping a 10 CP Mankey up to 120 CP will only cause frustration and despair when you actually encounter a wild one with 140 CP. So try to hold off on using your Stardust until the later levels.

IMPORTANT : The higher your level, the higher CP Pokémon that you will encounter. This is why your trainer level is your main focus up until you reach level 20 where the leveling starts to go slower. By then, you will have access to Ultra Balls allowing you to catch rare high CP Pokémons.

Determining the best Now comes the more advanced and confusing part. Similar to the core Pokémon games, there are hidden stats called Individual Values (IV) that affect a Pokémon's overall strength. IVs for wild Pokémons are determined randomly so even though you caught a high CP and HP Venonat, it may actually evolve into a weaker Venomoth than a Venonat with lower CP and HP due to the latter Venonat possessing higher IVs. This is why, it is encouraged to catch as many Pokémon as you can, so you can single them out to the best of the pack.

IV ?

I know this may sound very confusing and data intimidating but don't sweat it. All you need are special tools to help you find these hidden IVs, such as this IV Calculator (https://pokeassistant.com/main/ ivcalculator). With the help of the IV Calculator, you can determine which of your Pokémon has the best potential to be evolved.

Holding Gyms

You will still be able to redeem good amounts of stardust and 10 gold everytime you successfully claim a gym by hitting the shield icon at the top right of the shop. This counter also resets every 21 hours, hence if you can claim multiple gyms before you redeem the stardusts and gold, your redemption will be multiplied based on the number of gyms claimed.

Besides holding bragging rights to your selected team, holding a gym has many benefits. For every gym you lead (as the highest CP boss) or backup, you will get daily package containing significant amount of currency. The only catch is to hold the gym for at least 21 hours in order for you to receive these packages.

Your friend pokemon can help in gym battle, if you fight in the same time

Do not despair when you see a gym occupied with a massive CP level Pokémon, there is a chance that you can still beat them. First thing, Type overrules CP. Just like the core games by Nintendo, each Pokémon types has a weakness to a particular type. So putting up a Fire Pokémon against a Grass or Bug type will grant you extra damage. Although your lower CP Pokémon will eventually fall, you will have done significant amount of damage to the defending Pokémon, softening up for your other Pokémons in line. Even 1000 CP Pokémon will eventually fall when faced against six 500 CP Pokémons. Another tactic requires more finesse and a stable GPS connection. When you are sure your connection is stable and strong, you can dodge a majority of the attacks dished out by the defending Pokémon. Just wait for the screen to flash yellow and swipe left or right to dodge the incoming moves. No all moves can be dodged though, some special moves will hit you no matter where you dodge. However with enough skill, you can practically dance through all their moves.

REVIEW

EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW! WORLD OF WARCRAFT: LEGION STEEL YOURSELF, CHAMPION! THE BURNING LEGION IS HERE One will never truly quit World of Warcraft. That being said, I had the chance to dive back into Legion beta last week after being on hiatus from my beloved Garrison for over a year, introduced in the previous expansion, Warlords of Draenor.

After more than 30 gigabytes of what seemed like endless patches and installation, I had the option to import my beloved characters and into the beta test realm but I decided on Legion's new Demon Hunter class. Meet Twingkles! As the main highlight of the new expansion, Demon Hunters begin their journey at level 98 (level cap raised to 110) in the shattered world of Mardum, a prison world housing a legion of demons who were captured by Sargeras prior to his becoming the Fallen Titan and the main antagonist of the Warcraft series.

Players will then continue to embark on a main quest to learn the ways and skills of the powerful and agile Demon Hunters like double jump and glide, the ability to sense and see demons behind walls with Spectral Sight, unleash the devastating demon form with Metamorphosis and blast all enemies in your path with Laser Eyes.

Demon Hunters will also be able to awaken and acquire one of two class-specific specializations and demon forms, Havoc (a DPS oriented form with demonic wings suited for unleashing large amounts of damage like Lord Illidan himself) and Vengeance (a brute, tank and defense-centric form that allows you to take massive amounts of punishment and damage).

REVIEW

New mounts and rides are also introduced in Legion. Among the new ones available to Demon Hunters are the cool-looking Fel hound and the chance to ride on a menacing Fel Bat. An hour into the questline and defeating my first boss, I found myself inside the Demon Hunter's flying stronghold (or spaceship), the Fel Hammer which will also be the classspecific Clan Hall. Think of it as a new Garrison of sorts with class buddies! Players will also be able to meet familiar faces and heroes like the relentless warden Maiev Shadowsong and archmage Khadgar, obtain a quest to wield one of two legendary artifact weapons and customize the way they look, feel and sound in combat via the Cursed Forge of the Nathrezim inside the Fel Hammer itself.

Gamehubs Magazine - August 2016

Upon completion of the introduction questline, I'm finally able to leave and return to Mardum at will. My epic quest then continues after a short trip to Orgrimmar and Dalaran, as new friends and foes alike battle in the new continent known as The Broken Isles where the fate of Azeroth and the Legion hangs in balance once again.

Overall, it was refreshing to play the new Demon Hunter class (which I highly recommend trying out!) and experience the magic and touch that harkens back to World of Warcraft's previous expansion, The Burning Legion. There were massive improvements to the graphics (especially the draw distance, for amazing screenshots!) and gameplay (gone are the days of feeling lonely in your own Garrison, haha!) as well. That being said, my hopes and expectations are somewhat high and we'll just have to see what further improvements and surprises Blizzard has in store for players in the coming months prior to the release date this August 30th, 2016.

A CHAT WITH BRUCE WILKIE AT OVERWATCH SINGAPORE LAUNCH EVENT

INTERVIEW

01

HAVE THERE BEEN ANY CONSIDERATIONS THAT THERE WILL BE ANY CHARACTERS BASED ON SINGAPORE?

When we make a character, the first thing we do is think about what abilities the characters have, we think about the personality and then we start figuring out how they fit into the game, how they move and things like that. We have not talked about any heroes coming from Singapore specifically, but don’t give up hope. We’ve announced that we are going to add heroes and maps to the game so you will never know what’s going to happen in the future.

Mei, Overwatch hero from China (overwatch.wikia.com)

02

THE CORE OF THE GAME NOW IS VERY PVP-CENTRIC. WILL YOU GUYS BE ROLLING OUT STORY MODES FOR EACH CHARACTER?

Hanzo Vs Genji in Overwatch Animated Short “Dragons” - playoverwatch.com

Right now, Overwatch is a PVP universe. This is Blizzard’s first foray into the FPS genre. We wanted to make sure that it is fun, a great experience and technically super stable. To do that, we chose to focus on crafting the best PVP experience we could. So we want to focus on getting Overwatch out there, supporting the game and seeing where it goes. In the future, I don’t know what’s going to happen so at the present, Overwatch is a PVP game.

INTERVIEW

03

CAN YOU SHARE WITH US A SPECIFIC FEATURE THAT WAS DROPPED THAT YOU WOULD REALLY LOVE TO HAVE IN THIS CURRENT ITERATION OF OVERWATCH?

There won't be enough relfection - (logicalincrements.com)

There are multiple, I worked a long time on local reflections, like making the floors all shiny and have objects moving on them... It’s a visual cue, as humans we like to see that moving object as it grounds the object just as much as shadows do. So I spent a long time making that look really good... It’s an expensive technique. But I would rather have people love the fluidity of 60FPS, which is the core pillar of the design of the game. That’s more important than some of these features that we dropped.

04

I WOULD JUST ASSUME NOW THAT BLIZZARD IS ALREADY WORKING ON NEW CHARACTERS, MAPS AND NEW OFFERINGS IN OVERWATCH, CAN YOU SHARE A BIT OF INFORMATION ON THOSE THINGS?

As we’ve announced, we will be adding heroes and maps to the games for free. That’s a big deal because we thought about selling those heroes and maps and if by doing so would fragment our player base in which it would have, then that would be rather tragic. So you will get them for free.

05

WHAT IS BLIZZARD’S STAND ON THE REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN IN RESPECT TO OVERWATCH?

Women of Overwatch (sapphirenation.com)

The actions of the dev team speak for themselves. Personally, I am super proud with the diversity we have with our characters. If you look at the lineup of heroes, it is not just your stereotypical female body types, we have a wide range. For the male body types, we have a wide range too. We have 21 heroes and they are very diversed, not just in their abilities but in their looks as well, and their nationalities, which we try to be very inclusive. And just how we handled the infamous Tracer pose. We will listen to the community and in that case, we didn’t like the pose anyway and we already have a better pose. At the end of the day, we are sensitive to the needs of everybody and we want to make it inclusive, we want everyone to play our game and we want to make it a comfortable game for everybody to play. And I think the dev team has done a great job with the diversity of characters in that regard.

06

CAN YOU TELL US WHO THE NEXT HERO IS?

You should watch the shorts.
