There are a lot of Google plugins, widgets, and applications that you are bombarded with on a daily basis. One of the great things the iGoogle application is that you can create a homepage full of applications that you love, all while keeping the best search engine there is. If you are moving into web-design, blogging, or forming a web business, there are 3 applications by Google that I think you need to get immediately... I. Google Sitemap- I was first exposed to this while using WordPress. Google Sitemap builds a sitemap of your site and lets the top three major search engines know about changes you make to your blog. This will help your blog get indexed more quickly and thus get more organic search results in the long run. Once you are logged into your admin panel within your WordPress blog, go to the "plugins" tab on the upper right. There are a few already installed, but after doing a search for "Google Sitemap" and downloading the plugin, you need to install it. 1. Download the zip file to your computer 2. Log into your FTP program 3. Upload it to the public_html- wp-content-- plugins folder 4. When you go to the plugins tab in Wordpress, the Google sitemap plugin should now be there. 5. Update Google Sitemap every time you post to your blog. Google Analytics- This free software allows to track not only how many visitors are coming to your site, but from what sites they were referred and from what country! I remember some of the first visitors I had were from Australia and South America. It opens your mind a little bit to think that you can reach that many people potentially with your information. 1. Go to Google Analytics 2. Sign up for a free account or use a gmail account you already have 3. Install the tracking onto the webpages you want tracked or have your web designer do it. 4. The only drawback is that results are delayed by 24 hours, so the initial excitement of waiting for search results is curbed quickly. 5. I love to see how many people I get from EzineArticles vs. direct vs. other avenues and believe me, it tells you all of that and more! It breaks down visitors by city, page view time, and a lot more. Google AdWords- Think that you're too small to advertise? Guess again. Google AdWords lets even the smallest business advertise their webpage, service, or business. Set up targeted ads using the potential keywords that people will type in the search engines. Your ads will show up in the upper right hand side of search results. Most of the time, I pay from 5-15 cents per click to advertise on Google. (It would be a waste to describe what could be explained on their online faq's
and video tutorials, so visit Google AdWords today for more information) The reason I recommend Google AdWords is because of the very specific targeting you can do with this service as well as the fact that you can link it to your Analytics account, making tracking conversions on your page very simple.
