5 Tips to Consider before using the Bare Copper Wires

Copper wires are the core electrical component of any circuit. The copper components are the lifeline of machines that we all see around us. Be it the high speed motors used in the most sophisticated industries or the simple hand fan running in your living room. State-of-the-art gadgets like computers, shuttle crafts and vehicles all use copper in some form or the other. The process extracts copper in the purest form and fall under the category of ASTM standards.

Bare copper wires are usually rated according to the woulding layout. Bare copper wound in concentric layout is B-8, Solid lay is B258 and the tempered bare copper wires fall under the rating of ASTM B-1, B-2 and B-3 respectively. The bare copper wires are available mostly in 14 through 1000 MCM and are usually tempered in the form of three categories. They are: Soft drawn Medium-hard drawn and Hard drawn

We tell you 5 tips to keep in mind before using the bare copper wires:1. Check the grade before stripping Two grades of copper wires may look the same, but have totally different properties. This might render your electrical application useless. Always read the instruction manual provided by the manufacturer.

2. Make Sure Your Size meets the exact Requirements of the Machine:Bare copper wires come in variable sizes. You must ensure that the standard wire gauges are used to calibrate the wire diameter before using them in a machine. The best thing about the bare copper wires is that they can be used with every kind of electrical appliances. Some drilling boards have to be tagged with only the standard size copper wires.

3. Ensure cleanliness and smoothness:Copper wires with bare body often subject to negligence. They might be coated with a lot of dust and grime. Some wires are used in oil tanks and might be sticky and could change the electrical conductivity. Check if the wire is packaged in a container or is wound in a standard non-magnetic rod so as to maintain its electrical conductivity and permittivity.

4. Use the wire only for regulated machines:Regulated machines are protected from electrical shocks and damage,. Using bare copper wire for unregulated machine or device might lead to short circuits and cause damage to life and property. Major fire cases happen if bare copper wires are not matched with the regulated devices. Earthing is the major application of bare copper wires Always ensure if your electrical appliance is grounded to earth.

5. Replace the damaged wire parts:Always check for a damaged wire section. It might be broken or splitting. Ensure that the wire has a smooth finish and is not dull or dark. A bare copper wire section will be cut by the only standard gauge cutter.
