A look into types and use of Copper Tapes

Copper is an excellent metal because of its varied uses. Copper has found its varied uses in numerous industries like electrical, mechanical, electronics, architectural, marine and many more. Copper is not only used for industrial purposes but is also used in our daily live for household as well as decorative purposes. The various features of copper make it a preferred choice not only in the industrial area but also in our daily regular lives. Its ability to be formed into any shape because of its features of ductility and malleability makes it good choice for using as sheets, rods, strips, etc. One of the varied uses of copper is found to be copper tapes.

• Types of copper tapes Copper tapes can be broadly classified into two distinct types: Adhesive: As the name suggests, these tapes are backed up by adhesives for their varied uses where the tape is required to stick to the surface where it is extensively used. Non-adhesive: The nature of the tape is quite clear from the name itself, that is, these tapes are not backed up by any kind of adhesive. These tapes are featured where there is no requirement of the tapes to be stuck to the surface of the use.

• Apart from the above two classifications, various other categories of classification is also found in case of copper wires like their thickness, width and sometimes length of the tapes. The grading of the tapes based on these categories is varied as per the use and manufacturers. In fact, they can also be customized if required.

Uses of Copper tapes The copper tapes are used for various kinds and purposes, some of which are listed below: • Copper tapes are used extensively in electronic circuits, especially for their ability as very good conductors of electric charges. The tapes are used as a shield for the numerous electronic components in a circuit. • Copper tapes have also been used as electromagnetic shielding in the various electric circuits. They have their uses in transmission lines that are essentially surface mounted for low profile circuits in electronics like paper circuit.

• Copper tape has found its way in arts and crafts as well. They have extensive use in mosaic work as well as stained glasses, where there is requirement of holding the various kinds of design elements together. One good example of the use of copper tape as a decorative item is the Tiffany Lamps. • Copper tape is also used as part of modern art where they are used as independent elements in the art. In addition, some times the artist solders the tapes with a soldering iron to bend or provide a particular shape to the art or sculpture.

• Copper tapes are famous and popular gardening elements especially in flowerbeds or vegetable patches to keep snails and slugs at bay. It is because these creatures have difficulty in passing the barriers created by the metal since the viscous fluids secreted by the animals react to the metal. • Copper tapes should be handled with care since the sharp edges can be hazardous.
