At Greenapple we take things personally. People are at the beginning, middle and end of the furniture and interiors we design. We are not anti-mass-production, but we find that personal touches are essential in every creation. Conceiving new concepts from scratch is our lifeblood, and we have unthinkable challenges written all over our DNA.
For us a chair is never just a chair and an interior is much more than four walls. Both are stories inspired and told by top-quality materials, meticulous attention to detail, and timelessly perfect finishings.
In each project we choose to be all-hands-on-deck and face-to-face, as we insist upon designing, crafting, producing, packing, and personally delivering our goods. Some people call it a luxury, others call it madness.
We call it the Greenapple way.
Our story started in 2005 with Rute Martins and Sérgio Rebola, a couple of economists with MBAs and too many ideas to handle.
Little by little a family of 35 craftswomen and craftsmen began to assemble. Today the savoir-faire of ancient Portuguese workmanship always goes hand-in-hand with a restless tendency to innovate as we take on each unique project.

Brainstorming ideas back and forth between designers, master carpenters, upholsters, stonemasons and, eventually, you.

Beauty of Nature
Greenapple’s exclusive pieces are timeless and unique, just like nature is.
Nature’s elements are the primeval inspiration, fire, earth, air, water, metal and wood. Then the purest structures of architecture come along: dolmens, domes, towers, aqueducts and bridges. We give form, meaning and expression, by shaping them into a clear identity.
Our collection embodies a combined effort between designers’ creativity and artisans’ savoir-faire of ancient Portuguese workmanship, enhancing finishes and textures in a game between perfectionism and raw beauty from which simplicity emerges as the ultimate form of sophistication.

Inspired by the lines of the beautiful Bordeira beach, this low table brings a natural feeling into your interior space through its sensual and sweeping curves, where ocean meets the land in perfect organic harmony.

Natural elements meet an innovative approach, creating unique furnishings and warm interiors. Raw details are carried over to the design of the pieces, magnifying the soft lines with a special touch.
It always comes from nature, and my shapes are organic. I grew up on a farm with my family in the countryside outside Lisbon, near a town called Azambuja. My mom had a florist shop, and since I was very young, I was always creating things with flowers. In the summers, I would spend time on the beach in Nazaré, where there are the largest waves in the world. One of our best sellers today is the Bordeira cocktail table, which mimics the shape of an idyllic beach town of the same name on Portugal’s southwest coast.

The Bongó Bar
Discover the story behind the Bongó bar cabinet.
The unique musical shape of the Bongó bar cabinet leaves no one indifferent. Like the echo of a drum, its elegance and perfect craftsmanship reverberate in every room. Our goal was to design a stunning cabinet that evokes feelings of relaxation and exuberance and celebrates the joy of living and enjoying life.
The elegant and seductive drum shape of the cabinet along with its impressive sliding Sahara Noir marble doors meant that the overall structure, mechanisms, and material applications had to be aligned with the latest technological developments. As our team accepted the challenge, we were able to create an outstanding cabinet that provides a unique, luxurious, and innovative sensory experience.
Marked by a round structure lacquered in champagne-colored bronze powder, it contrasts with the cabinet interiors in walnut veneer and Patagonia granite. The semicircular sliding doors in Sahara Noir marble are automatically activated by touch, movement, or wireless remote control. With automatic light switches, the doors open to reveal the Patagonia Granite stone texture shine from within.
Being brass an alloy very much used in musical instruments, and being Bongó’s name inspired by one itself, it was the right material choice to accompany the Sahara Noir marble doors and contrast with its deep dark color and its beautiful veins. As a highly malleable material, it meant that we could imprint in Bongó’s physical expression a totally manual signature.
The choice of materials, construction, and execution in the Bongó making, represents the finest in quality when it comes to combining modern production methods with expert craftsmanship.
A special state of the art sliding door mechanism was developed by Greenapple and tailored specifically for Bongó to assure a safe and smooth handling of the Sahara Noir stone doors. Motion and pressure detection sensors located within hand’s reach were added in order to deliver a full experience of an automated door opening. Because each design component is carefully designed to deliver an exclusive experience, the sliding doors are made to fit, down to the millimeter, leaving no mismatches nor awkward gaps between mating parts.
An imposing and elegant piece with glamourous lines, Bongó features different types of finishes with the same unique characteristics that evoke an irreverent and distinct personality.

Biloba The Story
We take inspiration from nature to luxury by combining the unique shape of the Ginkgo Biloba leaf with the elegance of high quality, stunning marble. Starting with the challenge of reinterpreting fundamental structures and shapes of monumental Portuguese architecture, Biloba was born to make a statement.
The Alcobaça Monastery was the chosen monument to inspire the design of this piece. From the first foundations in the Middle Ages to the end of construction in the 18th century, this building intersects different styles - Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Manuelinism, Mannerism and Baroque. We wanted to reflect all those layers and influences in this piece, as we felt the need to reaffirm the presence of the sideboard in the current contexts - the vision of our ancestors, redefined through design.
Three types of arches intermingled into a pattern dictate a unique and colorful aesthetic that transcends the straight lines of the parallelepiped - and two Ginkgo Biloba leaves magically appear.

By the way, do you know why we are called Greenapple?
History shows you that western art, literature and everyday folk tales were very keen on using the apple as a symbol (or metaphor) for concepts such as life, knowledge, sensuality and desire. The apple stands at the crossing of a considerable amount of legends and myths where it always served as a catalyst for human creativity.
Surely one can remember how an apple initiated the Greek Trojan War, the revolutionary Isaac Newton’s law of gravity or how it was skilfully pierced by the marksmanship of William Tell’s crossbow.
Being the apple such an universal symbol of life and sustainable human activity it was the right choice for the name of the company. The green side as a concept represents and reinforces that same sustainable attitude of the company towards the environment.
