Temperature superiori a 38°C danneggiano il seme. Lasciare il seme a 36°C per qualche minuto prima di inseminare, preferibilmente per 5-7 minuti. Riscaldare accuratamente la pistolette per alcuni minuti nel tappo del bagno-Maria prima di inserire la paillette. Inseminare la bovina entro 5 minuti, mantenendo sempre la temperatura di 35-36°C e comunque proteggendo il seme da shock termici. The use of Heifer Plus, an additive for bovine semen extender that induces sperm capacitation, was associated with an increase in female births (about 70–75% if used 18 h after heat starts) and a higher conception rate than with conventional semen. We analyzed the results of 3800 AI, carried out from September 2019 to July 2020, in 24 farms located in Northern Italy, using both Heifer Plus and conventional semen obtained from 9 bulls. We recorded the starting times of heat and AI; the data of the animals used; the type of semen, conventional and Heifer Plus; the number of progressively motile spermatozoa (NSPM) per batch of semen, and the result of the pregnancy diagnosis. With JMP®13 software we performed descriptive statistics and chi-square tests to evaluate the effect of the type of semen and other relevant variables collected on fertility evaluated through the positive or negative result of the diagnosis of pregnancy. 85.5% of the inseminations led to a diagnosis of pregnancy. The conception rate was 4% higher in cows inseminated with Heifer Plus semen than those who received conventional semen: 40.34% vs. 36.33%, respectively (p = 0.019). Interestingly, a significant effect of the calving order (p < .001) was also observed with a higher conception rate in heifers and a difference between conventional semen and Heifer Plus equal to 57.75% and 50%, respectively. The highest value of NSPM of the Heifer Plus semen (12.7 million/dose versus 8.2 million/dose of the conventional semen) did not affect the results significantly. Finally, there was also a significant variability between bulls and farms. However, we noticed that breeders did not always respect the ideal incubation time for Heifer Plus semen and this could have affected the results. In conclusion, the use of this technology seems interesting, but it should be adopted with better management of the reproductive programs including stricter compliance with the ideal incubation time of AI, which entails higher costs but yields better results. Due to the high degree of variability among bulls, it would also be better to use the semen of different bulls in each farm.

Con le informazioni genomiche gli allevamenti stanno aumentando il loro progresso genetico ottimizzando la selezione delle bovine e le loro performances, riducendo i costi di allevamento e migliorando significativamente la salute della mandria. Più di un milione di Holstein sono state genotipizzate nel data center VIT in Germania e il numero è in rapido aumento. Negli allevamenti Kuhvision che forniscono i dati vengono registrati accuratamente tutti i trattamenti e le diagnosi riguardanti le principali malattie (mastiti, problemi metabolici, riproduttivi e salute degli zoccoli, inclusa la dermatite digitale). Il risultato in campo delle differenze tra animali su questi caratteri (variabilità fenotipica) è altamente significativo. Vedi grafico sotto.
L’RZ€ esprime la differenza di profitto o perdita in € che ci si può aspettare dalle figlie di un toro nel corso della loro vita rispetto alla media di popolazione, in base al suo potenziale genetico.
Gli indici di resistenza alle malattie (vedi sopra) compongono l’indice di salute totale (RZhealth) e vista la loro alta incidenza economica hanno un peso significativo nel nuovo indice economico di merito netto tedesco l’RZ€ (RZEuro), un vero indice economico globale molto utilizzato da parte degli allevatori commercial per migliorare efficienza e redditività in azienda.

GENOTIPIZZAZIONE
Il tasso di incidenza della Mortellaro (Dermatite Digitale) ha una relazione significativa con il valore genetico DDcontrol della Mentrevacca.levacche con un valore genetico basso per DDcontrol (92) hanno un rischio del 51 % di avere la dermatite digitale durante la 1a lattazione, le vacche con un valore genetico alto (112) hanno un rischio di solo il 16%. L’uso di LOGO KUHH per la genotipizzazione degli allevamenti è diventato una routine. La popolazione di riferimento è mista include cioè tori e vacche, questo migliora la qualità e l’accuratezza della stima che si traduce in indici più attendibili. È quindi possibile influenzare in modo significativo la frequenza di queste malattie in allevamento utilizzando gli indici salute di Kuhvision.
È costruito sui tratti economicamente più rilevanti di produzione, longevità, salute (RZhealth), fertilità e sopravvivenza dei vitelli. Ciò che rende l’RZ€ speciale è che la valutazione e i pesi dei caratteri che contiene fanno riferimento a dati reali raccolti direttamente nelle aziende. L’accuratezza dei dati raccolti ha permesso di raggiungere un attendibilità altissima dell’indice economico RZ€, superiore all’80%.
