It’s your future. Time to get serious. 1

Narrowing down your college choices and making a short list? One of the most exciting times in your life is about to begin. It’s also the time to make some important decisions that can shape your future. So, if you’re ready for a serious conversation about college, then it’s time to consider Cal State Fullerton. To begin, we want you to think about three words –

Commitment A pledge or promise to do something; dedication to a long-term course of action; engagement; involvement.

Value Worth or the degree of worth; to think highly of; esteem.

Investment To spend (i.e., time, effort, money) with expectation of satisfaction or reward.

Now we want you to take a look at what those words mean for you at Cal State Fullerton.

Transferring to Cal State Fullerton has been lifechanging. I definitely owe it to the engineering faculty, the STEM* Transfer Student Services, the kids in ASCE** Student Chapter have been awesome – they’re my friends, my tutors, my advisers, everything. Civil engineering can be daunting, but the faculty can break it down, make it interesting, and make it a lot of fun. They are able to share their professional experiences because they have actually worked in the field. We’re prepared for any avenue we want to choose once we graduate.

After serving in the military, I am really focused and serious about earning my degree. I wanted to come to Cal State Fullerton because of the veterans’ student support. My experience has been great – working with my professors, using all the resources and support, building the camaraderie with the other veterans, and meeting new friends. CSUF has given me the guidance, tools and support to do well in school and transition from active military service and help me reach my future goals. I am thinking about going to law school, that’s my long-term goal.

In the Business Honors Program, I am surrounded by such motivated individuals, and you can connect with people on a personal level, especially with professors. The Mihaylo College dean and professors invest their time in us to help us grow as students, as individuals, as professionals. They really want to make you the ideal candidate for a real-world position. It’s fantastic. The curriculm is difficult, but it’s worth it. SERIOUS VALUE.

What is the value of a Cal State Fullerton degree? A university education goes well beyond training you for a job; it prepares you for a future full of choices. At Cal State Fullerton that means you gain the knowledge, confidence and skills you need and an edge for what’s next, whether it’s launching a rewarding career in your chosen profession or preparing for graduate and professional programs including law, education, human services and the health professions. Our Health Professions Advising Committee has been preparing pre-health students toward acceptance into some of the nation’s most prestigious health professional programs for the past 45 years. During this time, approximately 85 percent of those recommended by our advising committee have been accepted into health professions programs. Since the institution of our formal post-baccalaureate program in 2004, 92 percent of the students who completed the certificate have been accepted. To meet the demands of increasing enrollment and train well-qualified students to fill a nationwide nursing shortage, Cal State Fullerton has established a School of Nursing within the College of Health and Human Development. Now the second-largest program in the CSU, the school has added new pre-licensure nursing programs at both the bachelor’s- and master’s-degree levels. A new Doctor of Nursing Practice program will launch in 2012 as part of a consortium with CSU Long Beach and Los Angeles campuses. Future educators receive outstanding preparation in our College of Education’s nationally accredited teacher preparation programs. Dedicated and gifted alumni have been recognized with Teacher of the Year honors, and last year an alumna was one of 103 teachers nationwide to be awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. If you have a passion for a career in social work, our nationally accredited master’s degree in social work provides the rigorous academic and fieldwork preparation that students describe as “supportive, demanding and incredible.”

Freshman Programs really helped me get situated in college. I learned about all the options available, and they give you a lot of advice about college. We had similar classes together, and it was nice to have that comfortable feeling. I am still friends with the students I met in Freshman Programs. In college, I’ve had to learn to network a lot more, and I’m getting a lot of practice at that. I probably wouldn’t have met half of the people that I have if it weren’t for the clubs I’ve joined and events I’ve attended.
