January is a month of resolutions, fresh starts, and the anticipation of a year filled with endless possibilities and potential. It is more than just a cold month; it’s a time to dive into the new year with a fresh perspective. And what better way to kick off this “fresh start” than by joining some of the activities this month at the Club?
A wonderful way to get your resolutions on track is to check out the new classes that are being presented at Strata Fit starting in January. Six new classes are being introduced and our experienced fitness team is ready to assist you. On Sunday, January 12, you can join us for Music With a View which includes a brunch buffet followed by an Operatic performance. And if there’s one resolution to make in the New Year, it’s to prioritize your health. Strata Med is available to provide you with proactive healthcare, so maybe it’s time to give them a try?
As a reminder, the KC Grille is open Wednesday through Sunday from 4pm - 8pm with Laura Rupejko performing on Wednesday evenings. The Rocks Lounge will be open on Friday, Saturday and Sundays with Laura performing on Saturday evenings and the Grand View Bar will be open from 11am - 10pm, seven days a week. Times and dates have changed with the season so please review the Food and Beverage hours of operation in this Newsletter. What every golfer should know about frost… how often your morning is affected by frost delays depends not just on the weather, but a variety of factors.
Golf course turf is normally resilient to traffic, but when ice crystals form inside the plants, they become brittle. Walking or driving over frost-covered grass can rupture plant cells, leading to dead turf, or the plants may be weakened without immediate showing effects. It can take grass more than a month to recover from this damage.
You can look out the window and see no signs of frost, only to find a frost delay when you get to the course. Know that frost can linger in colder microclimates long after areas have thawed. North facing slopes, low-lying areas, and areas sheltered from the wind are especially likely to remain covered with frost. When in doubt, call the Golf Shop to check on course conditions before leaving the house.
Frost damage can occur throughout the course, but it poses the greatest risk to closely mown turf. Putting greens are particularly vulnerable because they experience the most concentrated traffic. A foursome typically takes 300 steps or more per green; and with frost present, each step could cause serious damage.
No signs of frost on the first tee doesn’t mean and immediate “all clear” sign. If frost remains unavoidable early in the round, the course must remain closed. Also remember once the course is totally clear, the maintenance staff will still need time to catch up on course preparation before play can begin.
We had great success with our winter course rotations last season, and we’ll continue this through the winter season moving forward. Due to frost delays in January, tee times will begin at 10am for the entire month. Please call the golf shop or check your emails prior to tee off for updated course conditions and/or delays.
Frost delays may be posted in the tee sheet a week in advance if forecasted low temperatures are sustained. Online tee times will be available one week in advance starting at 9am. If you experience any difficulties using the online tee sheet, please call the golf shop and we'll gladly assist.

• Frost/weather delays or closures will be emailed via jonas to all members with tee times on the day of play
• It is recommended there be a maximum of 2 carts per group during the winter course months. The golf course benefits from less cart traffic during the winter months.
• The GPS units in the golf carts have been removed for winter; the GPS screens are temperature sensitive and can be damaged if exposed to sustained colder temperatures
• The range tee is now imited to the mat area on the south end of the practice tee
• The range balls will be located in the golf shop until spring. When practicing only, those members not on the range club will be charged for their range balls. Balls are included when playing a scheduled round.
• Make sure you are repairIng ball marks and filling divots with sand mix provided throughout the winter season

Welcome to a new year at the GOG. We have seen lots of increased participation throughout the past year and look forward to more in 2025. We will be jump starting our year off with our Tennis Jai Alai which was rescheduled from November due to inclement weather. This event showcases our staff playing amongst other local pros in the area. This is one not to miss as you will get the chance to watch, heckle and place bets on the team you think will win. Join us for our Mixed Doubles Flex League starting January 11th and running through March 1st. For this league, members will sign up with their partner and we'll set the rounds and rotations where you play your match on your own schedule. This league will run for 8 weeks and the cost will cover the indoor court fee and tennis balls, which will be dependent on how many teams register.

As part of this new program, Strata Med is offering the Culinary Medicine Cooking Demonstration Series in 2025. The first demonstration is titled “Winter Comfort Food”, and will show how to modify classic comfort food to include more vegetables to increase vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and fiber while boosting the flavor.
