FROST DELAYS
What every golfer should know about frost… how often your morning is affected by frost delays depends not just on the weather, but a variety of factors.
Crunchy Grass Is Vulnerable To Damage
Golf course turf is normally resilient to traffic, but when ice crystals form inside the plants, they become brittle. Walking or driving over frost-covered grass can rupture plant cells, leading to dead turf, or the plants may be weakened without immediate showing effects. It can take grass more than a month to recover from this damage.
Location Is Everything
You can look out the window and see no signs of frost, only to find a frost delay when you get to the course. Know that frost can linger in colder microclimates long after areas have thawed. North facing slopes, low-lying areas, and areas sheltered from the wind are especially likely to remain covered with frost. When in doubt, call the Golf Shop to check on course conditions before leaving the house.
Closely Mown Turf Is At High Risk
Frost damage can occur throughout the course, but it poses the greatest risk to closely mown turf. Putting greens are particularly vulnerable because they experience the most concentrated traffic. A foursome typically takes 300 steps or more per green; and with frost present, each step could cause serious damage.
Looks Can Be Deceiving
No signs of frost on the first tee doesn’t mean and immediate “all clear” sign. If frost remains unavoidable early in the round, the course must remain closed. Also remember once the course is totally clear, the maintenance staff will still need time to catch up on course preparation before play can begin.
KISSING CAMELS WINTER INFO
WINTER COURSE UPDATES
We had great success with our winter course rotations last season, and we’ll continue this through the winter season moving forward. Due to frost delays in February, tee times will begin at 10am for the entire month. Please call the golf shop or check your emails prior to tee off for updated course conditions and/or delays.
Frost delays may be posted in the tee sheet a week in advance if forecasted low temperatures are sustained. Online tee times will be available one week in advance starting at 9am. If you experience any difficulties using the online tee sheet, please call the golf shop and we'll gladly assist.
• Please call ahead for frost & weather delays (719-636-2520)
• Frost/weather delays or closures will be emailed via jonas to all members with tee times on the day of play
• It is recommended there be a maximum of 2 carts per group during the winter course months. The golf course benefits from less cart traffic during the winter months.
• The GPS units in the golf carts have been removed for winter; the GPS screens are temperature sensitive and can be damaged if exposed to sustained colder temperatures
• The range tee is now imited to the mat area on the south end of the practice tee
• The range balls will be located in the golf shop until spring. When practicing only, those members not on the range club will be charged for their range balls. Balls are included when playing a scheduled round.
• Make sure you are repairIng ball marks and filling divots with sand mix provided throughout the winter season
WINTER GUEST FEE RATES
Accompanied Guest - 18-holes - $69
Accompanied Guest - 9-holes - $49
Does not include cart fee.

A LOOK AHEAD
A MONTH AT A GLANCE
Moving forward, we will be creating a "Month at a Glance" sheet for each month. One side includes “The Weeks Ahead” – which is a list of all events that month and their corresponding dates.
The other side includes “The Month Ahead” –which is a list of anything that might be relevant for the whole month (things like month-long spa discounts, taste of the month, golf course updates, changes in hours of operation, etc.)
This is meant to be a quick glance at what’s going on at the Club each month to help you stay "in the know!"
Click here to view and download your February Month at a Glance sheet.
LOOKING THREE MONTHS AHEAD
In order to help both our Members and our Team plan ahead, we are announcing the next 3 months worth of events!
This document will provide you with name of each event and its corresponding date so that you can mark you calendars for the events that interest you most! Then the details for each event will come out in that month's newsletter.

IN OUR COURT
THE IMPORTANCE OF RE-STRINGING YOUR RACQUET
The most common question I get is how often should I get my racquet restrung? The general rule of thumb is however many days a week you play you should restring that number of times per year. For example, if you play 2 times per week you should restring your racquet 2 times per year. At GOG we keep a restring log which you can check when the last time you had your racquet restrung to make sure your equipment is performing at its upmost potential. The main reason for restringing your racquet is to maintain control of the ball as the longer your strings are in the frame the more fragile the string becomes and the looser the tension gets creating a trampoline feeling versus the solid feel as it should. Come on down to the pro shop to have your racquet assessed by one of our professionals and keep your equipment up to working at its best.

GET TO THE HEART OF YOUR HEALTH
At Strata Med, we’re redefining healthcare by moving beyond traditional, reactive approaches. We’re proud to offer proactive, personalized treatment plans that seamlessly blend the best of Eastern and Western therapies. Our innovative, whole-body diagnostics and treatments go deeper to uncover and treat the root causes of illness, allowing us to treat the entire person—not just a list of symptoms.
Whether it’s American Heart Month or any other time of year, we’re dedicated to getting to the heart of your health and supporting you on your journey to optimal well-being. Read on for Strata Med’s cutting-edge, evidence-based treatments to support heart health.
Anti-Obesity Drugs: Cardiovascular Benefits Beyond Weight Loss
Without question, one of the hottest topics in cardiovascular medicine has become the role of the type II diabetic and weight loss drugs known as the GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonists and SGLT–2 (sodium-glucose cotransporter-2) inhibitors. While both drug classes were initially developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes (T2D), they have been found to have a remarkable number of beneficial “side effects” particularly as related to obesity and cardiovascular disease. Click here to read Dr. Barber's full blog to learn more about these developments in cardiovascular health.
INFLAMMATION: A HIDDEN THREAT TO HEART HEALTH
In recent years, the combination of traditional Western medicine with complementary and Eastern approaches has created a more personalized, effective way to address heart health. One of the most overlooked factors in cardiovascular disease is inflammation, which plays a significant role in many heart-related conditions.
More than 100 years ago, the scientist Virchow discovered that inflammation contributes to the formation of plaque in arteries, a process known as atherosclerosis. For much of the 20th century, however, atherosclerosis was mostly seen as a passive buildup of cholesterol. While inflammation is generally helpful for healing, when it becomes chronic, it can lead to ongoing damage and increase the risk of serious health issues.
