“ ...while it's important to savor the pivotal moments of spring in May, there's no harm in embracing the first rays of summer sunshine..."
MESSAGE FROM GEORGE FISCHER
President and CEO
Dear Members,
May holidays, like Mother's Day and Memorial Day, are filled with fun in the sun and the gorgeous blooms that come after the springtime rains. May is also the month of many graduations and while it's important to savor the pivotal moments of spring in May, there's no harm in embracing the first rays of summer sunshine with a refreshing cocktail or a few of your favorite summer activities at the Club!
Pick the perfect gift for Mother’s Day with 25% off retail for a Luxury Spa Facial or an 80-minute Glow & Massage Treatment. In addition, Strata Spa and Salon has crafted special gift bags for Mother’s Day in three price ranges. Or join our Memorial Day Tennis Social on Monday May 27th from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. for our opening summer tennis event encompassing the service branches in a fun round robin format.
This month’s “Breakfast Bites” will be held on Thursday, May 16th beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Grand View Restaurant. Doctor Habashy will host this month’s gathering and will lead a captivating discussion on regenerative medicine. Or you may want to attend this month’s Lunch and Learn which will also be held on Thursday, May 16th from 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in Three Graces Ballroom. Experience this unique opportunity where you will gather valuable information on maintaining a healthy mind. Our speakers will cover a range of topics, from medical insights to practical exercises and nutrition tips.
With the nicer weather, we also look forward to the beginning of our seasonal food & beverage offerings. Come out and see the many things that are happening this month at Garden of the Gods Resort & Club!
Sincerely,
George Fischer

WHAT’S
TEED UP
GET SQUARE AT THE START...
Often, shots go wayward because of a misaligned clubface at address. Place an alignment stick just outside the golf ball, so it creates a 90-degree angle with the target line (photo to the right). As you set up, align the leading edge of the club with the stick, then pull it back to its regular position. It’s a simple way to ensure that the face is square every time.
TRAIL FEE STICKERS
2024 Trail Fee Stickers have arrived. Just a reminder to stop by the Golf Shop and register your golf cart for the season. Please remember to sign your cart registration information and adhere your 2024 sticker to your golf cart.
GOLF COURSE & PRACTICE RANGE
The practice range is on the main grass tee for the remainder of the season. Range balls are provided if you have a scheduled round. There is a charge if you are not playing or are not on the annual range plan. We ask that you refrain from hitting shots over 260 yards while using the practice range. Please make sure you and your guests are dressed appropriately (no denim or warm up pants) when using the golf course and practice range. When in doubt please ask a member of the Professional Staff for assistance.

TIP OF THE MONTH: SLICE SERVE
This month’s tip covers the slice serve in tennis. This serve can be detrimental to your opponents as if hit correctly it can move away from the returner or jam them as it moves into their body. When hitting the slice serve there are 3 important takeaways.
1) After tossing look at only the right edge of the ball (righty) or the left edge only (lefty) through the entire serve.
2) As a right-handed player, tossing the ball at 1 o’clock is important to securely hit the outside edge of the ball.
3) Acceleration is everything to create the most spin on the ball that will help control the ball and give it the movement it needs to trouble your opponent.
Click here to watch Greg demonstrate this Tip of the Month!

WEDDING FLORALS TIPS & TRICKS
Planning a wedding involves countless decisions, and one of the most delightful yet daunting tasks is choosing the perfect floral arrangements. However, amidst the excitement, it's easy to fall into common pitfalls that can impact both your budget and the aesthetic of your special day.
TOP THREE FLORAL MISTAKES TO STEER CLEAR OF....
Assuming You Need Flower Expertise: Don't fret if you can't differentiate between an orchid and a peony. Your florist is there to guide you through the process. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, gather images of bouquets and arrangements you love (or dislike) to give your florist a starting point. Trust their expertise to bring your vision to life while alleviating the pressure of being a flower connoisseur.
Underestimating the Cost of Flowers:
Flowers are a beautiful but significant investment for your wedding day. Before diving into floral discussions, research realistic budget ranges to avoid unexpected surprises down the aisle.
Overloading on Wedding Trends:
While it's tempting to incorporate the latest trends into your floral designs, remember that fads come and go. Opting for timeless styles that resonate with your love story ensures your wedding décor stands the test of time. By embracing classic elegance over fleeting trends, your floral arrangements will remain as enchanting years from now as they are on your wedding day. By sidestepping these common floral mishaps, you'll ensure a stunning and timeless ambiance that enhances every moment of your celebration.

Illuminate the Night: Set the mood with the soft glow of candles, casting a warm and intimate ambiance that enhances the romance of your reception.
Splash of Color: Infuse vibrant hues into your centerpiece design, creating a captivating contrast that adds a pop of personality to your reception decor.

Understanding Reception Florals:
Once the vows are exchanged and the "I dos" pronounced, the wedding ceremony concludes, marking the beginning of a joyous celebration. As you mingle with loved ones and raise a glass in celebration, the reception takes center stage. Creating a captivating focal point for your tables, whether intimate rounds or grand family-style settings, sets the stage.
Low Florals, High Stems: Strike the perfect balance by pairing lush low florals with towering stems, creating an eye-catching display that elevates your table decor.

Abundant Greenery: Embrace the timeless allure of greenery, weaving lush foliage throughout your centerpiece for a natural and romantic touch.
Embrace Simplicity with Baby's Breath: Sometimes, less is more. Opt for the delicate charm of baby's breath for a simple yet elegant centerpiece that exudes understated beauty.

"Ethan is a great team player is always willing to assist the front desk, guests, or any other departments when he's approached. His customer service has always been amazing, his attitude is welcoming and cheerful. He's great with guests, members, and those who are just passing through to look at our property. KORNELIA KARWAT, CONFERENCE SERVICES MANAGER
"Kornelia Karwat...our incredible and irreplaceable Queen of Conference Service. I have had the pleasure to work with some extremely talened Conference Services Managers, however, Kornelia truly shines. Our clients feel that they have been assigned the best on our team and I am very lucky and appreciative that our clients are always in the very best of hands."
- Nominated by Senior Sales Manager, Drew Warwick
JHON VARGAS, GREENSKEEPER
"In the Golf and Grounds department, we do not get many opportunities to enrich the lives of our guests that are staying at the resort. We are usually behind the scenes, and we don't get much interaction with members and guests like other departments do.
On Sunday, February 4th, there was a snowstorm that rolled through, covering the ground with a few inches of snow. There was also a wedding planned that day and the bride was extremely worried she would not be able to have her wedding ceremony outside.
Jhon shoveled the snow off the wedding lawn and cleared enough cnow off that they were able to have their wedding outside! I was even informed that our guys brought tears to the bride's face when she looked out the window and saw that the lawn had been shoveled off. Jhon Vargas went out of his way to make someone's day and went above and beyond our normal snow removal duties."
- Nominated by Golf Course Superintendent, Nick Lang
